I had time to briefly look for you. I saw a Dennis and a Joseph. Two unfortunate things. Even some of the articles were within your time frame (not that early) they are in the extra-pay database. $60 a year. Maybe someone else has this. I saw a June Spillane dau of Joseph who married a Zangiger (sp?). I can't read it all but I saw these words. One other unfortunate thing is that a lot of Mickey Spillane articles show up. Have you tried Find A Grave? Sometimes obituaries are shown there. Good luck with your search, Nan BTW, when replying to this message, "Reply to All" didn't put in the Roots-L mailing address. I had to add that manually. Who is the person in charge of this mailing list? Cannot it be specified to reply to list? Other lists I'm on put in the list address automatically. -----Original Message----- From: ROOTS [mailto:roots-bounces+wharvey14=comcast.net@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of carola1243--- via ROOTS Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2017 10:06 AM To: ROOTS@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROOTS-L] Newspaper Obit Search for Patricia Roche 1959-1986 I hope that someone can assist me with an obituary search. Dear genealogical colleagues, I wrote a very short paper last year on the 19th-century literary names Ahab and Ishmael in early Massachusetts, based on vital records and other genealogical sources. If you're interested in historical naming patterns, on in unusual applications of genealogical resources, you can download the paper here (just click the "Open PDF in Browser" or "Download this Paper" link): https://ssrn.com/abstract=2519287 Some earlier commentators on Herman Melville's Moby-Dick (1851) suggested that these two names, which Melville gives to his principal characters, didn't occur in the Nantucket vital records. In fact, there are two recorded Ishmaels on Nantucket; and while it's true Ahab doesn't occur there, that name was used several times in southeastern Massachusetts and adjacent Rhode Island. (The Rhode Island occurrences merit further study.) I think this is a nice little example of how genealogical data can be used to understand history and literature. I hope some people may find it of interest. Bob O'Hara Fitchburg, Mass.
I would appreciate any assistance in locating an obituary for Patricia Roche born March 16, 1959 and died in February 1986 Last known address was in White Plains, NY 10602. Thanks for any info or suggestions, and please reply to carola1243@aol.com

Your great-granddaughter's 2nd great-grand is a sibling of the other person's grandfather/grandmother. Your great-granddaughter's great-grandfather/grandmother is the 1st cousin of the other person's father/mother. So the other person and your great-granddaughter are 2nd cousins twice removed. It is easier to view this from the standpoint of the cousin who is fewer generations removed from the MRCA: his great-grandfather. Great-grandchildren of a common ancestors are 2nd cousins. How do you access the were related site on Ancestry. I've tried the card catalog and found nothing. There used to be a site I tried on Ancestry, but can't find it now. Nadine
Not true. I found out just yesterday I am related to Hugh Heffner. Ha ha. Seriously, I am going to check some of it out. I may get a lead on something. I did...among all the incorrect information I learned I actually AM related to Ryan SEACREST. Nothing new genealogically in that one for me but it was interesting. Same with a few others: Miley CYRUS for one. I already knew I was related to Merrill STREEP, Richard NIXON, and Kevin BACON through early English Quaker lines and the app also found them. I am still researching whether the maiden name of the mother of an English ancestor or mine is actually the one being touted in some of my possibly accurate connections. The app (using bad tree data) made incorrect connections for my Mennonite ancestor Mary BIERI linking her to a Mary BERRY in England. My famous people are all from my dad's side. About a third of them tie into the wrong ancestor which makes it completely bogus. I have an ancestor Samuel Fitzpatrick who was born c 1812 TN and I believe he died in Arkansas sometime before 1900. The connections to the famous people use another Samuel Fitzpatrick also b TN around the same time. This Samuel Fitzpatrick died in TN. He has a date of death and a tombstone plus he's attached to parents, which I have not been able to determine for the man who actually is my ancestor. I was able to look at the records and I saw that the 'other' SF has a different family, which proves it's the wrong person. I understand it was entirely possible that MY person went back to TN and died there. But he didn't. There are other suggestions for different brick wall ancestors. I have not checked on them yet. Hi Geanellen, You have probably already seen this, but if not you might be interested in the two page summary on Cynthia Beal's family in the Vermont Families in 1791, v. 2, pp. 27-28. There is a large group of children born to her older brother Abel Beal and the name of the contributor of the information for this volume. Might it lead to some new clues??? I just happened to recognize the Beal surname from transcribing the Vermont volumes into my database about 8 or 9 years ago <g> Margaret Scheffler -----Original Message----- From: Geanellen Looking for information to connect my great grandmother ELIZA COFFEE/COFFEY;Mrs. Mondy;Mrs. Joseph Doty to her parents Samuel and Cynitha (BEALL) Coffee/Coffey. According to census records, Sarah Clubb was born about 1777, unknown location. Prior to 1810, "the poor widow Clubb moved across the mountains with her children and settled in TN." The town of Clubb Springs in Smith County is supposed to have been named for her. She is listed there in the 1810 reconstructed Smith County Census and the 1820 and 1840 (must have been missed by the census taker in 1830). She died prior to the 1850 census. A William Clubb (1818-1858) is listed on the 1850 census, and his age corresponds with a male enumerated on the 1820 and 1830 census in Sarah's household. William appears on the Smith County, TN 1850 census with wife Narcissa and two sons: William James and David. Following the death of Narcissa, William married Elizabeth Cox and had two more children: Sarah Ann (?named for her grandmother?) and Harlow C. This family moved after the 1850 census to Johnson County, AR where William died in 1858. Can anyone document where Sarah was living before TN, who her husband was, and if the William above is in fact her son?
Mecklenburg County, NC has been in existence since 1762 and is not a burned county - no widespread loss of records. The deeds have been abstracted by Herman W Ferguson in Abstracts of deed books 15-23, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, 1794-1830; you could also try contacting the Register of Deeds in Charlotte to see whether they'll take requests for specific deeds or do a deed search; or you could look at the Catalog in familysearch for microfilmed deeds and/or an index. You could also do a search at the North Carolina State Archives MARS Index for land grants.
