    3. Diana, looks like perhaps newspapersarchive has opened to the public... that's good news! I had not checked it in a while. There may be a slight difference between the institutional version and the home version, I don't know. But if your library offers it free, then that's an extra bonus. I wouldn't think that your location would impact your ability to access it through your online connection to your library. I don't know how libraries operate in Australia. Here, when you have a library card, it allows you to log in to the library online databases. -----Original Message----- From: ROOTS [mailto:roots-bounces+erlybyrd99=yahoo.com@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sharon L Crowley Sent: Monday, February 27, 2017 11:25 PM To: roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ROOTS-L] Dianna/Pittsburgh paper Search Newspapers 1607 - 2017 - Www.newspaperarchive.com‎ Adwww.newspaperarchive.com/7-Day-Trial‎ 325 Million Newspapers, Obits, Births & Photos From The US & 26 Other Countries! 30,000 Happy Subscribers · Start A 7 Day Free Trial · 50 States & 22 Countries · 200+ Million Pages Free Search Try our free advanced search tools and find hundreds of articles. 105+ Million Obituaries Search Newspaper Obituaries From 50 States & 7,620 Titles; 1607 - 2016! Ancestry.com also has some newspapers that used to be "theirs" but may now be part of Newspapers.com, since that was created by Ancestry.com. Additionally, many archives, particularly university and historical societies, have their own, and some of these are on the internet. I use the University of Oregon's Knight Library collection at: http://researchguides.uoregon.edu/newspapers/oregon My experience is that there is little cross-over, so it's important to look at each to determine if your target location is represented, and if so, what dates. I checked my Newspapers.com for the items mentioned by Lori, and didn't find those newspapers. One thing to remember is that newspapers changed names (Weekly and Daily...sometimes having both in the same time frame) over time, and I may have missed because I was looking in the wrong paper. Hope this helps. 3. Hi Diana, I'm a different Lori, but I was wondering if you had checked Chronicling America through the Library of Congress website? There's a lot of newspapers there from Pennsylvania. Here's a link: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/newspapers/?state=Pennsylvania&ethnicity=&language= That's just to the list of Pennsylvania papers. This is the main page: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ When I searched for Fullem in Pennsylvania, I got 4182 hits. Also, Elephind.com has 28 matches to Fullem. That site searches old newspapers that are digitized online. This link is the results list for Fullem in Pennsylvania: http://elephind.com/?a=q&r=1&results=1&lsq=Pennsylvania&e=-------en-10--1--txt-txINtxCO-Fullem------US--- Their homepage: http://www.elephind.com/ I've found somethings there that I didn't even know existed online. I hope these help. Good luck!! The price is good and they even let me buy half a year. They are NOT affiliated with Ancestors.com. 3. The only city I could think of to check was Pittsburgh. I know it's not far from Washington Co., PA. In the years 1846 - 1945 there were 130 hits for Fullum. In the same years there were 104 hits for Fullom. Something interesting is that in 1871 a John Fullem (it brought up this spelling as well) committed a murder and there was a trial. This happened in Washington Co., PA but appeared in the Pittsburgh paper. Someone else clipped these articles. There were several of them. This is set up like Ancestry in that we can contact the person who clipped the articles. She clipped (saved) them about a week ago. Unfortunately it brings up words like full-time. My immigrant was William GORMAN, 1803-1851, and he was from Clogheen, Tipperary. His parents are buried not far from there. There were quite a few brothers and at least one sister but not one named Phillip and the last of the family born in Ireland was in 1819. I have traced William in Ireland through the 1821 census and then he was in Alabama for the 1830 U.S. census. Hopefully I’ll fill in that 9 year gap some day. Two of the brothers, John and Patrick, I haven’t found beyond Ireland so there could be more of us out there or they could have died early. The original records were handwritten and the “o” often looked like an “e”. In addition to that, a lot of people just did not read and/or write so they relayed their information orally and a clerk wrote down what they heard. 1. Re: [ROOTS-L] Newspaper access/Washington twps, various PA counties
    2. Just an additional note.  Many of my PA ancestors of the counties of Bedford, Huntingdon, Jefferson, Indiana and Armstrong. lived in Washington twps. whichkept pointing me to Washington county records. Finally, I began locating them inWashington townships of these various counties. I think the enumerators didn't realize what confusion it would lead to if they just put 'Washington' as the location. Also, Indiana county and Armstrong county had several newspapers being publishedduring the 1800s, and since much of these counties is either rural or farming areas; they are typical 'small town' format with the comings and goings of  whoever lived there or nearby. My 2nd great grandfather's obituary was found in one of the Pittsburgh newspapers, even though he lived about 80 miles east of Pittsburgh. This happened as he had done quite well financially and was known over much of western and central Pennsylvania. Hope this opens up some info for researches.  If you search by location, you oftenfind tidbits that don't turn up otherwise. 3. It's Newspapers.com. It's the one which comes with the Ancestry subscription. I really like it and I spend a lot of time there.
