Thank you everybody who answered my question. My only disappointment is.. I wanted to be right!! LOL Jim
The issue is consistency in indexing all of the records on FamilySearch.org not necessarily the grammatically correct way to express the term mother in law. From: "Jim Tarbet" >I have been indexing the 1940 census for the last month or so, and have > constantly had one phrase marked as incorrect that I don't believe > should be, nor is incorrect. Sorry, Jim but I agree with those critiquing your work. The hyphens stay. Think on this: mother in law could be thought of as the legal description of mother whereas mother-in-law clearly makes this one person, one entity. Mother-inlaw might get by an editor but mother-in-law is better. Sort of like ne'er-do-well. I have the Chicago Manual of Style around here somewhere and that tome would have a clear statement. Those who review my indexing entries insist the these phrases should be entered as "Son-In-Law" or "Mother-in-Law", always using the hyphens. I don't believe the hyphens are required grammatically. If you know the RULES for spelling these terms please enlighten me, or give me the "ammunition" to refute the insistence upon using them. Diane, I'm fairly new here but it seems to be both. Some chat and quite a few requests for research. Appears to be an excellent resource. Diana unless I am mistaken, if Comcast is not your ISP then they are not going to respond to you. The person you are trying to contact if they are a Comcast paying subscriber ---they will have to contact Comcast themselves and ask why they are not letting your messages through to her. Hi Lynn As for the documentation on Henry's marriage no I don't believe I ever received an actual document/certificate or other. I've emailed the Allegheny Courthouse to see what they say. The only "documentation" really is from Henry's pension record where I believe Mary Ann said they were married in Tarentum with the date etc. in 1846. Regards Dianna Also I have a map printed out of PA which is very helpful, his family could have come from any part really couldn't they. Dianna
Hi Lynn I have just forwarded the document to Pat in Tuscon (with much appreciation). Also I now know that the Fullers in Greene and Fayette are the same group, there is just one John Fuller there that I have to check out in Fayette, the son of Daniel and N. Young both from Ireland. I thought that one of their three son's may have been Henry's father I've checked out two and there only one more to investigate Also the Jefferson Society has sent me Rebecca Fullers obit and other details (no children listed) but there is 15 of them. This John Fuller comes from New York originally, Henry said his parents were from PA. Well until you get to the 1900 where someone states that his Dad was from Spain and mother German (what on earth). I did come across a document which stated that Henry was colored (to do with Civil war enlistment) you just don't know what to make of it. All the Fuller children are listed in Kiski report which Pat will forward to you and I am still waiting for more information from Jefferson, Kind regards Dianna

Looking for information on Mary Isabelle Sutton born in late 1800s in ND. I think she married someone named Walker. I would really like to know his first name. Rose
Hi Lynn I've tried to resolve the problem here I've contacted them twice and I'm getting the run around. I fill out the form they say they need more information when I send them the information, they tell me to fill out the form again so that's it for me they should have fixed it by now, don't know why it's so difficult. I know it's not your fault Regards Dianna
I remember my dad telling me as a child there is a town in Texas for any name you can dream up. A lot of them aren't worth the sign on the road but at one time the town probably had a sawmill. etc. My grandson goes to school in a town with population 77. There are 10 or 12 kids in each grade but they are bussed in from farms and ranches nearby. Gale Gorman Houston On Apr 18, 2012, at 3:17 PM, BARTON LEWIS wrote: great thank you. When dealing in genealogy most feel family info belongs to them, even if they did not do the leg work to get it. I feel, if I find info I seek- to at least give credit where credit is due- To the original owner or transcriber of the material one borrows, Never place your name on someone else's work - you can place your name on the material as one source of those who collected and or compiled the info- But always place the name of the person you got it from on your list of people who did the leg work. Some people get out of sorts because they paid good money for copies od legal documents and such, and you made copies of what they paid for- Pay for it if it is something you really want to have, and remember, you have the real copy, they have a printer copy, nothing better than an original.
great thank you. I have an obit for someone who died in Amarillo, TX in 1978. It says "Mr. Brooks was born in Moloney;"which I assume to be a town in Texas -- possibly Potter County where Amarillo is but I can't find a Moloney or Maloney TX. If anyone could help determine what town they're talking about I'd appreciate it. Thanks. Barton Lewis
neither is correct. It's Malone, Texas which is in Hill County. David Samuelsen On 4/18/2012 1:52 PM, BARTON LEWIS wrote: > I have an obit for someone who died in Amarillo, TX in 1978. A good overview on Libby Prison can be found in William B. Hesseltine's "Civil War Prisons." pp. 60-79. Observations by one Neal Dow, prisoner. Hesseltine has good footnotes to lead to other material. National Archives Record Group 109. There is a section called "Records relating to prisoners, oaths, and paroles": NARA Microfilm Publication M598. These are records of Confederates held in Union prisons. I have used this series twice, and both times I had specific information to find what I was looking for. Records of Union soldiers held in Confederate prisons can be found in National Archives Record Group 249, Records of the Commissary General of Prisons In either case, the only information you will find is a ledger list of soldiers with information about their specific condition. There is no "family information" for prisoners in these records. Most of the "family information" about any member of the military in the Civil War is contained within the soldier's pension records ~ Trevia Trevia Wooster Beverly Houston, Texas 713.864-6862 Coordinator, Angelina College Genealogy Conference http://www.angelina.edu/genealogy/genealogy.html Member APG http://www.apgen.org/ SSA. http://southwestarchivists.org/ TSHA. http://www.tshaonline.org/ Harris County Historical Commission (1995 - ) http://www.historicalcommission.hctx.net/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "LINDA WHITNEY" <LINDA.WHITNEY@omh.ny.gov> To: <roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 18, 2012 9:09 AM Subject: [ROOTS-L] Libby Prison > Does anyone know if there are records from Libby Prison? Does anyone know if there are records from Libby Prison? My ancestor, Capt. Martin Scherff, was a prisoner there. Thanks. ________________________________________ Conserve resources.
