    1. Re: [ROOTS-L] Old Mailing Lists
    2. Just because a RootsWeb list has no administrator doesn't mean the list serves no purpose. RootsWeb doesn't shut lists down but does make unadminned lists adoptable. Perhaps you would like to adopt the list and care for it? If you mean why didn't the spam get blocked and not come through to the list, that is generally the result of a subscriber to the list whose email account has become compromised by a hacker. Non subscribers wouldn't be able to send spam to the RootsWeb lists which are "closed" to non-subscribers. If you contact the RootsWeb HelpDesk about the spam you got via the list they will take care of removing it from the list archives. So just delete the spam and forget it after you have let the HelpDesk know. Joan In a message dated 5/3/2012 4:59:44 A.M. 2. George W. Durman
    3. Hello Sallie, You might also be interested in the annual East Tennessee Germanna Reunion, held in September at the Philadelphia Community in Washington County. While we have few descendants of the surnames you list, we do have some WEAVER, FEATHERS, and DeVAULT descendants who attend. And, we have scads of GLICK (CLICK) descendants represented. Our main interest is on the "Germanna" descendants in Washington Co., BROYLES, WILHOIT/WILHITE, CRUM/CRIM/GRIM, YAGER/YEAGER, etc. Many of these descendants married into the families you mention. 1. [ROOTS-L] Announcement about ArchiveGrid and survey
    2. Ast,Ellen
    3. Hello Karen, My name is Ellen, I saw your email on the ROOTS-L homepage and I thought I would write to ask how I can get a message posted on the mailing list so some readers might be interested in helping us. I help work on ArchiveGrid, which is a database run by OCLC Research of records describing archival collections. Most of these records come from contributors (mostly college and university archives, libraries, and museums) in North America and a few come from contributors in Europe. We are conducting a survey to find out how researchers use and share information about archival and special collections materials. ArchiveGrid is a useful tool for anyone seeking primary sources because we index thousands of records describing archival collections which might help genealogists and family historians with their research. We plan to use the survey results to improve ArchiveGrid by making it even easier for researchers to find archival materials and to get in touch with archivists who can help. Here is a link to ArchiveGrid, http://beta.worldcat.org/archivegrid/, and here is a link to OCLC Research so you can learn more about who we are: http://www.oclc.org/research/. The survey will be available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W8MKXP9 <https://owa.oclc.org/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W8MKXP9> through May 25, and includes the chance for those completing it to win an Amazon gift card. If you are willing to distribute information about the survey on our behalf to your affiliated researchers, you could use the text below in your message. Thanks in advance for helping us to get the word out to your researchers. I think the information from the survey will be useful to many people, not just to us. OCLC Research wants to know how researchers (you) use special collections. Complete this survey and be entered in a chance to win an Amazon Gift Card! Please visit http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W8MKXP9 <https://owa.oclc.org/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W8MKXP9> to answer some questions about how you find - and find out about - websites and other research resources. The information you provide will help OCLC Research make it easier to discover materials in special collections. Ellen Ast OCLC Research

    3. I’m going to answer on list because you all are being wonderful in trying to help me, but when I open the gmail form, I don’t see a toolbar per se, that lets me follow your instructions to edit. What I do have is a little wrench that, when I open it, has a selection to cut, copy and paste. For instance, if I want to copy something from Ancestry or another site, to gmail, is that selection going to allow me to copy to gmail? Internet Explorer is my browser, and it DOES have a tool bar that will let me edit, i.e. copy and paste to my Windows Livemail (formerly Outlook Express.) or WORD, from any source I try to copy. I have been able to send many things that way with Livemail. Am I making sense in what I’m asking? I feel so ignorant in this and apologize if I seem dense. 3. Dianna Think you want this: http://www.alleghenycounty.us/wo/index.aspx Under the "genealogy" section, there's discussion of marriage records. It looks like perhaps these records would be in the Carnegie Main Library. However, if the "recording" was part of a probate issue, it may be somewhere else. The person (clerk) in Pennsylvania that I have found keeping many of these records is the prothonotary. According to the website, the Prothonotary was merged with the Clerk of Courts and Register if Wills in to the Department of Court Record. So, no doubt the record will be somewhere here, just finding it without being on-site may be a challenge. 1. [ROOTS-L] Woten, Rhine and Gilruth
    2. Hi, Is anyone doing research on Gilruth, Rhine or Woten? I'm trying to connect these three families and haven't had any luck. Isaac Gilruth Rhine, son of James and Eleanor (Woten) Rhine, was born 24Mar1846 in Jay Co. IN and died 12Sep1929 in Madison Co. NE. He married 1st Mary M. Lancaster. They divorced. He married 2nd Marilla Goodin 3Mar1868. They divorced and remarried 8Oct1897. When she died Isaac married Wealtha (Skinner) Kilmer. This Isaac G. Rhine had a brother named Martin, who had a son named Isaac Gilruth Rhine. I've found an Issac Gilruth Woten born 23Mar1860 in Jay Co. IN and died 5June1943 in OH. He married Ella Nora Mast 5Apr1881. This Isaac G. Woten was the grandson of my 4th great grandfather Bell Woten. I also found an Isaac Gilruth Woten born 28Dec1910 in Remus, MI and died 8Jul2002 in Hayti, MO. He was the son of Alonzo and Lillie (Sharp) Woten. I don't know how he connects to my Woten family yet. So with all these men named Isaac Rhine or Woten, with the middle name Gilruth, I think there has to be a connection between the three families but I can't find it. Can anyone help me? I've looked every place I can think of. I love puzzles but this one is driving me crazy. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'm willing to share what info I have...obits, marriage records, tombstone pictures.
