Greetings All! I have been given a leather-bound book published in 1818 with Massachusetts and U. S. laws for Justices of the Peace. There is a label from the library of Delano and Hammond and the name, William Allen, Jr., in script. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might research this law firm? I guess it dates from the 19th century and probably was in Massachusetts, although I don't know for sure. Thanks for any help. Eve Gregory
Hi, I am looking for info for Amanda J. Bull, born Dec.15, 1815 in Fallsburg, Sullivan Co., NY. She died July 15, 1902 in Kansas, buried at Sego Cemetery, Reno Co., KS. I have tried for years to find out who her family is and have checked everything I can think of and with no luck. She married Obediah Brown Abt.1830 in Fallsburg, New York and later moved to Kansas where she died. Obediah died Oct.9, 1878 in Ashford, Windham Co., Conn. At least this is what I have found so not sure if it is accurate. It is believed he is buried near Keokuk, Iowa, but again not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated finding Amanda's people. Thanks Pat Robinson Boyer in AZ
Searching any data on John W(illiam?) Trumbull born 1856 Oneida co NY to William Trumbull and Mary Moulter. William and Mary moved to Gloversville,Fulton Co NY where they spent their lives, and are buried in the old Kingsbury Cemetery. In 1880, Lenox, Madison Co NY, are John Trumbull, 24, a painter, his wife Vina, 22, and Jennette Burchard, 42. Was she John's mother-in-law? By 1883, John W. Trumbull was listed in the Gloversville directory, a painter, living 44 Glebe St. In the 1884-1885 Directory, he is listed, a painter, living on Dove St. In the 1890-1895, for 1894, his 2 sisters are listed, Misses Ida and Rilla Trumbull were at 107 Melcher, Mrs. Melvina Trumbull was at 16 Market St. Haven't found a death record for John W Trumbull, but he must have died before 1894. From the Johnstown, NY DAILY REPUBLICAN, Tuesday, December 5, 1893: Mrs. Melvina Trumbull of South Market street, left yesterday afternoon for Chicago. Hope someone can help me find where Melvina went. Haven't found that she had children, but she may have gone to siblings. Many thanks for your help again. Lois
And, further, the Henry age 24 in 1850 is still in Menallen in 1860, wife and children and same mother. At the same time, Henry in Allegheny is there in 1860.. And, of course, Henry and Mary are there in 1850 with Samuel F and Shirville N. Back to the drawing board. I forget overtime where we've been with this, and tend to pass over the same territory. BUT, it's good you are doing this, because everyone you can cross off the list leaves fewer to be on the list. Interesting name, Shirevill/Sherwell. Family name? good thing to look for. There's a Joseph Sherrow in Westmoreland, a Michael Sherrod in Erie, in 1840. Some Sherwoods, but no Sherwell. There are some Shirly families in Kistiminetas, Armstrong County. Joanne, An even longer list of such archaic disease names can be found at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~njmorris/general_info/disease.htm This list is generally consistent with your list from the WSJ. Dianna Google "John fuller" "connellsville, pa|pennsylvania" And you'll get many hits, including the Centennial History of the Borough of Donnellsville and other histories. Also a Rootsweb list PAFAYETTE on this family. Lots of stuff. Not so much on Henry. At all. A quick look at the 1850 gives us a Henry Fuller, 24, in Menallen, Fayette County, with wife Mary, baby Elizabeth, probably mother Mary (62) and various others. I think Henry is an innkeeper. John (the father of Smith?) is living in Connellsville. There are no other Fullers there by that time. Smith is living in Union. I believe there must have been additional children along the way here. There's an obituary in 1869 as follows: "DEATH FROM LOCKJAW.-George McClean son of Samuel McClean of North Union township, had his great toe frozen the first week in January, and two weeks later had it frozen again, after which he complained of stiffness in the jaw and back of the neck. -Drs. Smith and John Fuller were called and pronounced it lock-jaw. the young man lingered in great agony until Friday the 27th ult., when death put an end to his sufferings. Age, 24. Genius of Liberty. Feb. 2, 1871." Smith (senior and junior, age 13) were living in Uniontown in 1870. John, 25, also a physician is also living in Uniontown. Apparently John is Smith's son, as he appears at age 7 in the 1850 census. Fayette County public records gives the whole family . It appears that Smith was married in 1839 to Elvira Markle, children John, Harriet, and Elizabeth. She d 1846. On the other hand, one Constance Jane Pherson (same data) also has this privilege. Hmmm. Then, Jane Beggs married Smith in 1849 and was mother to William, Frank, and Smith, Jr. What fun. For John Fuller, b 1786 in Westmoreland County, married to Harriet R Smith in 1814, we have for children "Smith and others." Gee, thanks. Odd that the "record", for what it's worth, is so sketchy on this. Hope this helps. I've been researching for 25 years, freely share my genealogy, help others when I can and expect the same in return. I spent the time and money to research lines that no-one was researching until I came along. it's been a long tough haul, with some ancestors eluding me yet, including a great grandfather. people often take my work with no communication. that's an "occupational hazard". so when I learned last week that two major breaks had been made in my lines (two brick walls knocked down) by people who had borrowed my 25 years of work and managed to find what I could not, and then DID NOT SHARE that information with me (it was old information in their files), I was deeply hurt. I've struggled with those ancestors for 25 years, gave you 25 years of genealogy with over $10,000 expenses with no strings attached, and you can't even notify me that you have information on our ancestors? what, I don't care, don't deserve to know and I don't want to extend my tree? I am thoroughly insulted. please don't stuff my email box with responses, do me a favor and pass this forward to every list and message board out there. I am tired of the shelfishness I find among researchers. I want an end to at least the worst of the selfishness, and maybe we can work on the minor stuff when we've fixed the major stuff. for those of you who give tirelessly to the community, volunteering and guiding others in their research, this email is NOT for you, you deserve more blessings and acknowledgements than you get. this email is for the ones who take and never give.
There is a very complete listing of ancient diseases at this site: http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/misc/disease.shtml I have referred to this list since about 1996 and have always found what I needed..
Another word for tuberculosis is Pthsis (sp?) which is the disease listed on the death certificates of a lot of my father's family. Duane I got that offer for a number of months. Finally took advantage of it in Oct 2011. They say less than $5.00 a month but it is for a 12 month subscription, I believe it was like $59.95 or something like that. I figured it was inexpensive and I could have a year to potentially find other info. I didn't already have. You might want to check and see what newspapers they have on file for your area before you signup.. Happy hunting, Sandy Jacobson Subject: ROOTS Digest, Vol 7, Issue 137 Genealogy Bank Hi folks: I received an offer from one of the genealogy outfits to get a special subscription price of less than 5 bucks a month to subscribe to Genealogy Bank. The offer ends May 4th. It does not say anywhere in the offer if there is a minimum number of months to subscribe or what it might be. Does anybody know if there is a minimum time required and what it is? It just drives me crazy that they make offers and do not disclose the terms on the page offering it. For me that is a good excuse for me to reject the offer. Thanks, Duane Canaday
