    1. [ROOTS-L] photo list
    2. I already have too much on my plate, have more I'd like to add and have no administrative skills or experience. however, I'd like a list or bulletin board where we can request researchers keep a look-out for specific ancestor photos. I suggest we list no more than 10 names or places per month, to keep from bogging the list down. in my pedigree, I am missing several of my great and great, great grandparent's photos. some may not exist (died bef 1850). I'd like a picture to add to my tree, but I've never seen one for these ancestors. it would be nice to have them, and to finally see what they looked like. I am looking for; Geertje Lauws/Louws Jaarsma 22 Sep 1835 Schiermonnikoog, Friesland-24 Dec 1870 Schiermonnikoog, Friesland. m. 2. Paula Hurst
    3. Don't know if this is a typical instance or not, but in trying to do research on a local Civil War veteran we were told that the entire pension record would cost close to $140. Then one of our group found all 190 pages at www.fold3.com I'm not sure what he paid to subscribe, but it was definitely less than the price that we were quoted and the pages could be printed off immediately rather than waiting for results to arrive by mail. Hope this helps.

    3. Union or Confederate? Normally, Union files are with the Federal Government and Confederate with the individual Confederate states. This is an oversimplified answer. There are some Confederated records with the National Archives. Which side? Which state? One hundred and fifty years after it was contested, the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War offers an unparalleled opportunity to discover, discuss, and commemorate America's greatest national crisis, and explore its enduring relevance in the 21st century. As part of its commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, the National Park Service has launched a website that provides an overview of the war, with special emphasis on Civil War sites administered and preserved by the NPS. http://www.nps.gov/index.htm Trevia Wooster Beverly Houston, Texas -----Original Message----- From: roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of wanda ingram and charles dorff Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2012 12:41 PM To: roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROOTS-L] Civil War Papers Could someone tell me how to order Civil War papers (pension, service records, etc.)? 3. Hi In a last effort to find information on Henry Fuller from Armstrong Co. I would like to find anything on the above Amos FULLER who served in the Civil war same Regiment and Company as Henry. 46th Reg. B Company Amos i think was drafted from what I could find in 1865. Amos is listed on Fold 3 Civil War and Later Veterans Pension Index, 8-July-1890. The photo I have of Henry in his War uniform is with 3 other Fuller boys said to be cousins, David, AMOS and one unamed. I'm trying to circle around Henry with whatever means I have so I thought if I could find Amos on the Census or someone else doing research on him this may narrow things down. If Henry and Amos are cousins perhaps their fathers were brothers. I'm nearly at the end of this research and there isn't much more I can do so I'm hope something comes up on Amos Fuller. Any help much appreciated. Kindest regards Dianna

    3. Pat I don't have any particular information, but no wonder you are questioning Obediah. The "odds" of someone dying in CT in 1878 and being buried in IA are very bad. I don't know if you have access to the censuses, but there is an Obediah Brown, 63, born NY, with wife Amanda, 55, born NY, in Montrose, Lee County, Iowa, in 1870. Obediah has a reasonable "purse" (1600 in property, 2000 personal estate). Montrose is about halfway between Keokuk and Ft Madison. Regardless of all that, back to Amanda. The 1850 census has Obediah, 45, Amanda, 32, with their children in Fallsburg, NY. Children are John, 18 Mary, 15 Charity, 14 Emery, 10 Salinda, 5 Oliva, 1 In 1840, we have Obediah with One male 5-9 (John) One male 30-39 (Obediah) Two females under five (Mary and Charity) One female 20-29 (Amanda) There are no "Bulls" in Fallsburg in 1840, but there is a Spencer Bull in Mammakating, about 20 miles away. Spencer has two males 30-39, one female under 5 and two females 20-29 in the family. I do not find them in the 1830 census, probably because they were with their parents, whoever they were. We do find Spencer and family in Mamakating in 1850, born in CT. There is also a James Ball (indexed) in Thompson, probably now Thompsonville, about five miles away. Actually, a closer look tells me this is James Bull, not Ball. There is a James Bull in Thompson, in 1830. In 1830 the household is: One male over 100 One male 50-59 (b bet 1770-1780) One female 5-9 One female 10-14 One female 40-49 In 1840 the household is: one male 60-69 one female 15-19 one female 50-59 The missing girl in 1840 COULD be Amanda. The next thing to do would be to look at the surrounding counties in 1830 and 1840 for similarly aged girls, as there does not appear to be any more Bulls in Sullivan County. Something to note here. I just ran this name on Family Search and came up with an "obvious" alternate: Buhl. And, of course, Buel. In 1820, there is a Joseph D Bell in Thompson as well. I don't find any B*ll in Thompson, but that doesn't mean he's not there. The 1830 male over 100 is of interest here -- was he in the war? Who was he? What is the source of the information on the marriage? There may be more clues there. Absent that, I'd be going to the probates in Sullivan county for some clues there. Hope this helps. Bull Hi, I am looking for info for Amanda J. Bull, born Dec.15, 1815 in Fallsburg, Sullivan Co., NY. She died July 15, 1902 in Kansas, buried at Sego Cemetery, Reno Co., KS. I have tried for years to find out who her family is and have checked everything I can think of and with no luck. She married Obediah Brown Abt.1830 in Fallsburg, New York and later moved to Kansas where she died. Obediah died Oct.9, 1878 in Ashford, Windham Co., Conn. At least this is what I have found so not sure if it is accurate. It is believed he is buried near Keokuk, Iowa, but again not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated finding Amanda's people. 3. Seeking any info on John Trumbull, born 1856 Oneida Co, NY to William Trumbull and Mary Moulter. In 1880, John and wife Vina (Melvina Burchard) wer living at Eaton, Madison Co NY, with Melvina's mother Jeannette Burchard, 42, widow. By 1883 they were living Gloversville, Fulton Co NY, but John was no longer there after 1884. John W. Trumbull was always listed as "Painter", but I don't know if he was an artist and perhaps went somewhere to further his studies, or ?. His widow Mrs. Melvina was always listed in directories of G'ville, living near her mother-in-law Mary Trumbull and/or sisters-in-law, Ida and Orilla Trumbull. December 5,1893 a newspaper noted that "Mrs Melvina Trumbull of South Market street, left yesterday for Chicago." Went where?   Most grateful for anything helpful. Lois   P.S. This John Trumbull is NOT the famous revolution artist---John Trumbull .
