Have you researched a U.S. Civil War unit or group? Are you willing and able to help others research that unit? The next version of the U.S. Civil War Units File (CWUNITS) will be available in late June. An announcement will be posted then. In the meantime I invite listings through Thursday, June 14. Also welcome are reports of non-working addresses in other people's listings, updates to your own listings, etc. If you write to me, please do *NOT* include this message in your reply. My time and disk space are limited. Also please do *NOT* include attached files. Thanks! Please note that the CWUNITS file has moved to http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~acwunits/ The purpose of the CWUNITS file is to let people list units, groups, battles, etc. that they have information on (from pension records, books, etc.) and are willing to help other people research. Typically the contact person had an ancestor who was in the unit, but re-enactors, history buffs, et al. are welcome. (This is *NOT* a list of re-enactment units.) People who are interested in a unit can send the contact person email and share information. If you have questions please read the FAQ first. If it doesn't answer your questions, feel free to ask me. If you would like to volunteer to be a contact, please send me email from the address where you'd like to be listed. If you are volunteering for more than one unit, it's OK to put them all in the same message. Please list your entries in this format (sample addresses are fake): Illinois (USA) 4th Illinois Cavalry, Co. F 1861-4 Abe.Lincoln@uky.edu (Abe Lincoln) http://www.fakesample.com/4thil 18th Reg. Ill. Infantry 1865 jd@fakesample.com (John Doe) (Somebody's Volunteers) Instructions -- include the following: Country (USA or CSA) and state. Start each entry with the number of the regiment or whatever. Years (if applicable, but not necessary). Your email address on each line. Your real name. If you have a web page for the unit, include the URL (but we need your email address and name too). Also please include a statement like "I volunteer to be a contact for this unit." This is so we can be sure that everyone we list understands what the file is for. This is a big project, and if you send listings in the wrong format we reserve the right to send them back for you to fix. If there's anything in your listings that is not obvious, tell me! If we can't get your listings complete and clear by the time I have to send the file to the uploaders, your listings cannot be included. If you already have listings in the file, there's no need to send them again, but please check them. If your address has changed, please tell me and send updated listings. CWUNITS is five files (plus the FAQ) as follows: Part Contents 1 USA national & states A-I 2 USA states K-N 3 USA states O-W 4 CSA national & states A-M 5 CSA states N-V Q FAQ (frequently asked questions and answers) Parts 1-5 include the intro as well as the listings. Within a state the units are organized by number (1st Infantry, etc.). The file is available at its new home: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~acwunits/ Carol Botteron (ancestors on both sides) botteron@alum.mit.edu

My great grandfather Joseph Frank Noyes was born in Ohio in or around 1858/59 The family moved to Mondamin Iowa, some time in between 1860 - 1870. There was a large family unit of the Noyes family. Brothers , cousins, and lots and lots of children, some grown and some still just babies. I found my grandfather grave in the Noyes cemetery, there in town. Also found a death notice. Around 1879 Joseph F. Noyes married Percy/Percie/Perca A. Pierce, born in Iowa in 1859. Almost every census I found her on, she changed the way she spelt her first name. In 1980, they are living in Mondamin Iowa, had a child, living on the family farm, by his two brothers and I believe his father Peter E. Noyes and his mother Margaret Noyes are still alive and living close. After 1980, I have found them on county census, but Joseph some times goes by Joe, Frank, or Franklin, if it wasn't for their children: Peter Noyes b.1881 Eva Noyes b. 1890 Margaret Noyes 1893 all born in Nebraska. This family acts like the devil must be chasing them, or their running from someone ??? the law ??? What I am looking for is Perca Noyes burial place. I found her on the 1930 federal census, living in Los Angeles, California, with her daughter Margaret, is married to a man, Carter and they have a son. I searched as many data base for most cemetery's in and around that area. No luck. I went into the 1940, in the same district, went line by line, didn't find her. she was 71 on the 1930 census, plus the 1930 was the great depression, so anything could have happened. She could have been buried as poor, she would have no head stone, but she should have a death certificate. I can find no date for her death on any free web-site. I have also looked through all free Nebraska death lists, as that's where her parents had lived, and she had family still there. I do have Ancestry .com. , but can't find anything after 1930. Does anyone out there have any suggestions ???? Sully
These were checked. Only Marion was the same one who brought William from Europe Dec 1944. William was living before Dec so that ruled 1942 William and from what the lady said, it is not Ernest. As for National Cemetery, it was searched and William is not in any cemetery reported to VA. David S. If you can find a death certificate, it may give you where he was buried. I sent away for my great grandfathers death certificate and it told me where he was buried. You would have to contact the Los Angeles hall of records, I believe they have forms on line you can print out, fill in your information, and mail in with a fee. Make sure you get a death form, fill it out the best you can. Also have you looked him up on Ancestry.com, it sometimes gives a lot of information on the men that were in service. My uncle is in there, it gave me a lot on where he was to his rank. Good Luck Sully

Hi Everyone I'm doing research into the above Charles Starr Charles STARR arrived from England on the Washington Irving on the 27th of September 1857 (to Australia). On the list of immigrants it states that he was 22 years old was an agricultural labourer, his native place and county was Kent, he was a methodist who could both read and write. He was the son of John STARR and Mary WRIGHT ( needs confirming). *Note Charles' birth is given as Cambridge/Cambridgeshire on two different certificates. One is his death certificate and the other is his son Charles' birth certificate. I would like to find Charles and family on the 1851 Census and I'd like to find his birth/baptism if possible. Any information would be great, kind regards Dianna from Australia

ANSWER TO BELOW: Dianna, Had trouble finding your Charles in the 1851 Census so I went to "Immigration" details and found your Charles. Yes, he went to Australia and everything matched (date, ship). If you do not have the original manifest I will be happy to send it to you in a download. In the meantime here's what it said; Charles Starr, age 20. Native Place: Foxton Kent Parents & residence: John and Ann living in Foxton. Will go back to the 1841 & 1851 Census and see what I can find and let you know if I can find anything. Hope this helps, Gretchen ORIGINAL QUESTION: From: "dianna charles" <diamonddi57@optusnet.com.au> Subject: [ROOTS-L] Charles STARR (Cambridgeshire Eng) To: <roots@rootsweb.com> Hi Everyone I'm doing research into the above Charles Starr Charles STARR arrived from England on the Washington Irving on the 27th of September 1857 (to Australia).
