    3. Hi ? As you no doubt realise EDWARDS is a common name, particularly in Wales If you search http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ For marriages 1869 for a William EDWARDS and spouse Mary you will find several possibilities None are for William J but its not unusual for someone to marry and not use their second name Findmypast have some Welsh records but do not know the extent There is also Familysearch although most records are pre 1837 there are some for that period, worth a check for anyway Do you not have a birth for any children which may have the mothers maiden name recorded? 3. There is marriage data for Wales at familysearch.org and findmypast (pay). I have found it pays to join a list from the area I am working on, so very many knowledgeable people are there who have access to parish registers <G> Do you know the area you need? 3. Hi DeAnn In my experience this is more often than not caused by our finding a census entry under a transcription error and not adding or sending a correction We record the page as it should be then later can't find the way we found it originally If you have some examples we can test the theory Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 28/06/2012 20:08, DeAnn Leonard wrote: > I have censuses that I have printed out years ago and can no longer find > them in Ancestry. Dear DeAnn, Two things that I have discovered or found out. If you use the old format for searching, you may find what you had. Go to the homepage and click on 'Searh All Records'. It will open up the various catalogue sections and go to that specific catagory and open it up and do your search only in that area. The previous search results you found may turn up. The other thing that we learned in February when some of the sessions from the Rootstech Conference in Salt Lake were made available online, we downloaded some of them. and printed out the syllabus. Barbara Renick/Resnick* gave a wonderful presentation on the 11 levels of searching, which was wonderful. But the thing I appreciated the most was her statement: At any point in time on the internet it is the timing that is crucial. How quickly can the info be retrieved and what is available at that particular moment. Her comment was: "What rises to the top the fastest is what turns up in the search." That is why we often get different results each time we search for the same person.* The Search Engine picks up what it finds first, and may run out of time before it gets to the records that you need. That is one of reasons that searching by location often brings better and more complete results. Of course, sometimes it doesn't work that way. Wishing you Good Searching Susan E

    1. Re: [ROOTS-L] Newspaper obits
    2. Barbara Young
    3. The obits are always in a smaller font than most of the paper with classified excepted. Has anyone ever figured out how those prices compare to commercial ad space? I am wondering if bundling obits and buying ad space would save money, or could. I don't mean to be morbid about it but the newspapers obits are, in a way. When I was growing up the local newspaper used to have a spelling contest and the object was to find the misspelled words in a certain ads, those ads were not named but they may have had to pay more for the privilege. This got everyone reading the ads to find the misspelled words. They were mailed in and a winner picked - I think the prize was $5.00. There are many people whose day isn't complete unless they read the obits and they would read all the ads to find them. (I don't happen to be one of them.) But, there needn't be a prize - more of a communnity service by the advertuzer. Barbara in MA

    2. ANSWER TO BELOW: Dianna, You requested a lookup in the 1841 and 1851 Census in London. You stated that Eleanor Byrne was single which is of some help but you said she was born 1880 (and the answer is?). Also, is it possible that she lived in a suburb of London and it might be listed differently? I live in California and people say they are from Los Angeles but they really might be living in Pasadena, Santa Monica, Venice (or ???) which is part of the metropolitan area. I'm sure every large place has that problem. My aunt & uncle said they lived in Chicago (Illinois) when actually they were listed as living in Franklin Park which is a suburb.
