    3. I looked and there are quite a few Enoch Harris hits. Do you have any more info? Several were colored. If he lived in Pennsylvania I must assume he was a Union soldier. Are you just looking for Civil War records? Fold3.com has an Enoch Harris in PA but no other info. Look at FamilySearch.org and try limiting your search to Pennsylvania. You'll find quite a bit. Don't just search the name on the first page of the website, look at collections/United States/Pennsylvania/... 3. Hi Everyone Could someone please let me know where I could find a possible Will/Probate record for a Robert WOODWORTH he was born in Dublin around 1784, appears on the 1841 and 1851 Census in Bristol (UK). He was listed as a widower on the census, he was an engineer. Father of Rachel, Winred, Joshua, Robert all born in Dublin. I'm unable to find him on the 1861 Census for Bristol and I cannot locate a death for him in England so I am wondering did he go back to Ireland and perhaps stay there. Perhaps he is buried in Dublin (or somewhere around there) with his wife. I am at the moment trying to connect up my Rosetta BRYNE with Robert WOODWORTH. Any help is very much appreciated. Kind regards Dianna

    3. OK, so I'll chime in: My local once a week paper, the Herald of Randolph (Vermont) will post a rather nice (in length) obit, if the person had ANY connection to Randolph. Will include a picture also. However there is the option of paying for one in which one can say almost "anything" What is neat is the obits are on all one page. Whereas, in years past they are scattered about the paper, usually within the numerous towns the paper covers, with only a sentence or two. So that making it difficult to research in the paper itself, or even on the films. Thanks, Harriet Chase

    1. [ROOTS-L] Obituaries
    2. Hi, I was certainly surprized to see how many ways of dealing with Obituary or funural notices there are. Our California paper lets the person decide what they want in the paper. First you can have a picture in the notice. It is a little over an inch big. Almost all of the notices have pictures with them these days. You can make the notice as long as you want depending on how much you want to pay. Photos cost $60 per day. If the notice is only in the Sunday paper the photo cost is $70 for the day. I might add that a lot of people opt for Sunday only. There are usually about 3 pages on Sunday. The notice cost per line. The rates are $5.25 per day per line. For Sunday only the rate is $6.25 per line. Basically one is paying at the ad space rate. A person can put what they want in their obituary as long as it fits the subject. Often people have chosen to have a two column notice and some times it even covers three or four columns.I don't think that there have ever been free notices for everyone. There is an index at the top of the pages that gives the names included which I believe is free. Sometimes the newspaper print a larger article if the person is well known in the community which is free. The notices can also be viewed on line for a time which is free, The prices certainly have gone up recently (hasn't everything.) Just a couple of years ago they were $2.00 or $2.50 per line. Why would a family pay so much for a notice? People are leaving a valuable bit of information for their descendants to find. Almost all have some mention of their family but sometimes the names of all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren and where they live are also left for posterity. Often the names of their schools and degrees are included. Often their life work is included. Sometimes the clubs that they belonged to are included. If they were an officer in an important club that is often included. If they have won awards those are often included. You get the idea. It is a legacy that can only be left once. There are also In Memoriams that are included at the end. They honor the date of death or a person's birthday etc. Those can also have pictures. They are usually just a few lines and also cost per the going rate. An old boss of mine put one in every year for his deceased wife whom he missed very much. He included a different picture of her each time one appeared. Some of the sadest are for children who have been murdered or had a dreadful disease. The police officers honor those who have fallen in the line of duty every year. Velma

    1. [ROOTS-L] Brunk families in Wisc
    2. Penny Price
    3. My wife is related to the Friederic Brunk family who arrived on the Hansa 14 Nov 1863 and settled in Kewaunee Co, WI. The family consisted of Fred 44, Anna 38, John 15, August 13, William 8, Julius 7, Christian 5 and Emilie 9 months. Emelia married Charles/Carl Grupp in 1878. They would have 7 dau and 7 sons all living when Amelia died in 1942. Sometime between 1910 and 1920 Amelia decided she was born in WI not Ger. In 1920 the three married dau, Minnie, Emma and Gusta would say their mother was born in Ger. Although Della was at home in 1920 when her mother said they were all born in WI, in 1930 Della would join her three sisters in saying their mother was born in Ger. I wonder what they thought when they red the obit and saw it said their mother was born in Watertown, WI? The other Brunk family arrived on the Magdalene 29 Jan 1868 and settled in Jefferson Co. The family was Fredrick 51, Marie 31, Christian 19, Fredrick 15, Ernst 7, Auguste 6, Emilie 5, Wilhelm 3 and Elise 11 months. In the 1870 census for Jefferson Co, the following changes occurred from the ship listing: Marie is Mary (No big deal), Ernst age 7 becomes Anna age 10, Elise 11 month becomes Eliza age 4 born in WI. A dau Mana was born soon after arrival. In 1880 she is Mary age 11 and Herma age 2. Auguste dies 10 Mar 1877. Ernest dies on the 12th and Fredrick dies on the 30th. How devasting for that family! Finally my question How are the families related if at all? They are not brothers as the Kewaunee Fredrick has a brother John born in 1917. Although he could be a twin of the Jefferson Fredrick but have found no suggestion of that. Stuart Price

    3. Hi Diane I suspect you may struggle with this one without buying one of the childrens birth certs (as that will record the mothers maiden name) At no point in the census 1891 to 1911 do either use a second name or have a member of the family at home that might give a clue at to her birth name In 1911 it records the years of the marriage as 28, so suggesting a marriage in or around 1883 (although that was recorded by them so may or may not be correct, no checks were made as to the validity of the information) Searching around on Ancestry and freebmd, there are several possible marriages The following was the best match although you would need more information before claiming it as theirs Marriages Sep 1883 Davies Sarah Builth 11b 105 Edwards Richard Builth 11b 105 The most likely birth reg for one of the children is this one for John Richard England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915 about John Richard Edwards Name: John Richard Edwards Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1884 Registration district: Islington Inferred County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 387 If you do go down this path I would suggest ordering with *no GRO reference* and stating parents as Richard and Sarah That way if its not your John Richard they would not charge (unless by real bad fortune there was another Richard and Sarah EDWARDS having children in the same place and time as yours) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 29/06/2012 22:33, Diane wrote: > Hi there, I have already sent this to the Edwards-uk list but they > haven't answered me. > > Perhaps you can help me find them please? > > Hi there, I am new to this list and need some help please? > > I need to find a marriage for > > Richard Edwards to a Sarah ? > > Their family in the 1891 census were: > RG12, > PIECE 233 > FOILO 18 > PAGE 30 > REG DISTRICT Holborn > Sub Districe White Cross Street > Parish St Lukes > Address 46 Banner Street, St Lukes London > , > > Richard Edwards born 1855 Dairyman Llanthystyd Cardiganshire > Sarah Edwards born 1859 Llangammarch Brecknockshire > John R born1884 Islington London > Mary A 1886 Islington > Sarah 1888 St Lukes London > Evan 1891 Clerkenwell London > > Hoping that someone can help me in this matter. > > > Diane
