    3. Hi Gayle I am having to send via the list as your email address is bouncing my replies with fatal errors My reply copies below ======================== Hi Gayle I have a couple of small trees on Ancestry but only testers so have never needed to either download or print a tree off As I said I use PAF, very easy to use My suggestion would be to download a gedcom from Ancestry, then download and install a free copy of PAF (if unsure how to download a gedcom from Ancestry, select help in Ancestry and enter gedcom in the search box) Create a new file in PAF and import the gedcom into that See what you have then and add to that if needed You can print various things with the free PAF and should you want more you can buy the code for PAF Companion for a few quid (£6 last I looked) Anything you enter into PAF could also then by uploaded to Ancestry again by gedcom (or any other program if you don't like PAF which I am sure you will) There is a PAF users list which is useful for help should you need it To print off to PDF you can get free PDF printers which you install rather as if its a printer Then when you go to print anything you select the PDF printer instead of your normal printer To start a new tree in Ancestry select "start a new tree" from the family trees menu or upload a gedcom from the same menu If you don't mind me saying so you have a steep learning curve in a short space of time :-( Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 01/08/2012 19:26, gayle lee stevens wrote: > I do not have Family Tree Maker or any others, I guess that would be the > right answer, I do have Ancestry where my trees are. > Is there a way to import from Ancestry to PDF? > I have one tree started but would like to start another tree can you > tell me how to start the new one, every time I click on start NEW it > takes me to documents and the tree I started is there but not letting

    3. We received not one, not two, but three spam messages here on ROOTS-L overnight. No need to report them to me, I've switched the senders over to moderation until they regain control of their accounts. Meanwhile, an obvious and strong recommendation to ROOTS-L readers. If you receive a message with no subject line or a subject line such as > Subject: [ROOTS-L] (no subject) that contains only a single link? Don't click on that link! It might be a virus, or worse ... but it certainly isn't genealogy. And a strong suggestion for ROOTS-L posters: if you want to post a valid genealogy link, put something other than "(no subject)" in the subject line and tell us a bit about the link in your message. Otherwise, no one will be brave enough to click on it. Back to my coffee, Karen karen@mtpinos.com ROOTS-L Administration Team

    3. Hi Gayle Do you mean you have no family tree software? or just not Family Tree Maker? Most if not all family tree software applications can print off in various ways If you don't have any software I would recomend Personal Ancestral File from the LDS, its free and easy to use It has some basic printing options which would probably suffice but you can add PAF Companion for next to nothing Once you enter your family data into PAF you can then print off in various ways to suit your requirements See https://www.familysearch.org/ Scroll down and select Products bottom right of page Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 30/07/2012 04:04, gayle lee stevens wrote: > Hello List, > In the last couple of weeks there was a lady asking about Microsoft Pfd. 2. ANSWER TO BELOW: J Bletch, Eliz failed to mention that John J. Quigley, age 52, b. Massachusetts (parents b. same) was the father in law. So, if you didn't have the wife's maiden name as Quigley, now you do. The 1930 Census says Amy's father was born Massachusetts and her mother b. Canada/English The family is also in the 1940 Census. He is still a Police Officer in the Boston Police. All four children are still shown. Amy's first name is spelled Ammi/Ammie. 3.   Unfortunately most genealogy sites aren't very helpful for those of us from the Balkans. There are records once they get to these shores, but in the home countries, it's a pain   There are sites on the web dedicated to Greek genealogy. You might try Cyndi's list first. It is very difficult to get records from Greece. Their record-keeping was never the best, and being a very homogenous country, they don't "get" the genealogy thing that we in a very heterogenous country are into.       When I was in Greece a couple summers ago,  I did get ahold of Aris Poulimenakos, the only genealogist I know who has the "blessing" of the officials there to go thru old records.  I was also able to get into the Costianes records in our village's County Seat, and they were gracious enough to let me copy some of the registers. They do have some things online, but just like here, there are privacy issues.    You can contact me offline if you need more info. Pauline     ________________________________ ----------------------------------------------------------------------     Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 I am searching for my father's roots. He was born In Silviria, Turkey on March 18, 1893 to Greek parents. His father's name was also Nicholas Theodoros and his mother's name was either Mary Fotini or Fotini Agathoni. 1. [ROOTS-L] The Buffalo Barracks & The Patriots' War
    2. Cliff Williams
    3. To All Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this message is to inform family genealogists, and researchers of military history, about a very informative web site. It contains a searchable database of 1,650 U.S. Regular Army Soldiers who served at the Buffalo Barracks and/or at Fort Niagara. Many of the officers and soldiers who served there had previously fought in the Florida Indian Wars and later also in the War with Mexican and then the Civil War. Perhaps you are a descendant of one of these men? IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT: The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead, of Virginia, and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, as being under his command and/or responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of the barracks residents by name.... but rather only by quantity. (426 males 20-30 years, and 34 females 20-30 years) HOWEVER, through extensive research, I have turned most of those nameless 'quantities' into actual names. The lists of these officers and soldiers can be searched, free of any charge, on the web site I have published, and maintain, entitled: “The Buffalo Barracks Historic Web Site” at [ [1]http://www.buffalonet.org/army ]. There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," for all soldiers who were “At Buffalo,” between 1835 and 1846. Also available on the web site is a wealth of rare and interesting information of great historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site, and to contact me if you discover, and can confirm, that your ancestor once served on the Niagara Frontier during the Patriots’ War. Enjoy your visit!
