    3. Hi, I have been working on my genealogy for about 11 years now and I need some help. I have actually moved to the little town in PA (Wellsboro) where my ancestors of the whole 1800s lived. I have gone on ancestry.com and tried to do my tree, because I am writing a book about my ancestry and the little town, but I have messed up that tree so badly that it makes me look like I am my own gramma!. I have checked with Ancestry.com to see what they charge and it's way to much. Their minimum is too much. I have all the people that need to go in there I just need someone to put it in order that makes sense. If anyone is interested in giving me a quote please email me at [email protected] or call me at 808.346.7549.  Thanks  Audrey Sofield Barber

    3. OK, venting is good, but maybe enough venting already? Some of you hate the new search, some are coping, some love it: got that. Let's try to turn this conversation in a more positive direction. If you've got tips on how to use the new search (or how to learn to use it), please share. If you've got the address at Ancestry that accepts feedback on the new search, please share. (I know it's been posted, but a repost is probably in order.) If you know of better sites (MyHeritage, FamilySearch, Google, GenealogyBank, etc.), tell us about them, what you like and dislike, any tips for using them more effectively, if they're better for USA or Europe or everywhere or? Let's NOT insult each other's ability to learn, research, whatever. There are many readers here with many divergent interests and very varying skill sets. Let's HELP each other! Thanks!!!! 3. For those still struggling with the new search I thought I would pass this link along. This particular blog post shows how to narrow all searches to country specific. http://blogs.ancestry.com/ancestry/2014/03/08/ask-ancestry-anne-search-tip-4-want-to-see-records-just-from-the-us-the-uk-canada/?sf2122552=1 If you want to fully utilize Ancestry I would suggest reading some of these blogs. On the far right of every blog post is a column called Categories. Click the category you are interested in and you will get a listing of blogs associated with that subject. i find this an invaluable tool to keeping up with what is going on with Ancestry.com and how to better utilize the site. 3. Well Nivard all I can say is it does work for me and I prefer it over the old search. You can craft a much more intelligent search and if used correctly I believe it works very well. I seriously doubt that my family is any easier to find than anyone else's. I have been a member of Ancestry since Dec 2002. Over the last 11+ years I have used the old search quite extensively. New search is not hopeless nor is it not fit for purpose. It does have a learning curve. It is not as simple as the old search. If you have in fact, watched all of the videos and read the help instructions and still cannot get it to work then I suggest there is something wrong with your search technique. Perhaps you should try Ancestry support and ask for help. And yes I have taken the time to read the many comments. Some make sense, some don't. Some are about Ancestry New Search some are about the relationship between Family Search and Ancestry, and some are about Family Search search not working. Basically they were almost all from people with some sort of grievance to air, which is what I've come to expect anymore. My guess is that there are tens of (if not hundreds of) thousands of people each day using the new search feature quite successfully who don't waste their time constantly complaining about something that is over and done with. Most all of these comments pretty much have one thing in common. Basically everyone is saying I've used this for years and it works for me. Don't change a thing. In other words stop messing with it. OK I get that. There are people that don't like change. They don't want the website to change, they don't want the search to change, not sure that want to see all the new records added each month. They don't want the company to grow and expand it's offerings. Those people just want everything to stay the way it was. The blog post and many others over the years explained the reason the change was made and why it was necessary. As hardware and software changes the programming has to keep up with it. After a certain point in time it is no longer feasible to try to maintain old coding and old functionality. But one thing I will agree with. All of those that don't like it can certainly leave Ancestry after their subscription expires or right now if they want. If they are not satisfied with the product as presented or they think they can find a better deal elsewhere then that is what they should do. Leave and find something that does work for them. 3. Hi ?? I am extremely glad you find new search all you wish of a search engine I for one (and from other comments and posts I am not alone) do not It is utter garbage They are trying to make the search interface more usable with smart phones and tablets, they have said that In the process they have made it unusable with computers I appreciate no one likes change, I can put up with change where there is a valid reason, in this case there isn't one I totally understand the need to rewrite software to keep pace with current demands from smart phones and tablets but all they had to do was replicate the old search functionality in the new search But no they have abandoned the old search to a shotgun approach as they think that users will be happier with half a million totally unconnected results rather than the half dozen close results As I have said previously, its pointless asking for Old search to be reinstated, but they could give us the same search capability in new search, but no they have given us this pathetic attempt at a search engine They know a portion of those who complain will simply give in and continue to pay them for an inferior service There is no doubt that Ancestry has the largest coverage of UK records around, but if you can't find anything what use is it They have turned a very enjoyable site into a totally joyless one Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 11/03/2014 19:30, The Cohens wrote: > I have watched this discussion with interest, as NEW SEARCH never > worked for me when I tried it before, a good year or two ago.
