Who knows how the continental land bounty system worked in Georgia after the Revolutionary War? Joseph Martin got a warrant to have measured out for him 1897 ½ acres in Franklin County, Georgia on 2 Jan 1786 on the Continental Bounties of 7 men, including William, John and Richard Bennett. What I am guessing is that these men may have sold their bounties to Martin for needed cash. But Im not sure since the warrant lists the men and their share of the total acreage (230 acres apiece and another 287 ½ acres for an 8th man). I am assuming they each got their land. What was Martins role? Thanks, Barton
Hi Dan Frankly I would have been more surprised if it *was* perfectly accurate :-) But still interesting nonetheless Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 19/03/2014 16:07, Dan Ledroit wrote: > This is a great and interesting video, but be aware that there might > be "mistakes". I have My Heritage and downloaded the various updates and "whatnots" without any problems at all. If anyone receives Family Tree Magazine in the March/April 2014 issue there is a 4-page Web Guide for My Heritage as well as a 5-page one for Ancestry. This is a great and interesting video, but be aware that there might be "mistakes". One of our students from Turkey advised us that the fall of Constantinople/Istanbul occurred 100 years off from what the video shows.
Good grief! How did anyone slow it down enough to pick out that discrepancy! I'd like to be able to slow it down during certain periods, especially the 1800-1860 time in "Germany" Pat In Tucson | -----Original Message----- | From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] | On Behalf Of Dan Ledroit | Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2014 9:07 AM | To: [email protected] | Subject: Re: [ROOTS-L] 1000 years of border changes | | This is a great and interesting video, but be aware that there might be | "mistakes". It would be wonderful if someone would make a booklet of how to on this subject. I've searched for years on how to do it and still don't know. I have had it on my computer for a long time and have had no problems. Rose Does anyone have any experience with My Heritage free download genealogy software? In particular-- 1) Is it a satisfactory program for maintaining a family tree? 2) Has anyone had a problem with getting malware when downloading it? Thanks for any assistance. Pat
Drew, Thanks for your reply. Since you asked why - I am currently teaching a class for fairly inexperienced computer users centering on ways a computer can be used in the pursuit of genealogy. It is not about searching Ancestry, Family Search, etc.--someone else is teaching that class--but rather on creating a system of folders for your documents and photos, using word processing programs to write family stories, editing photos to use in family histories, and using genealogy software. Several people in the class have recent experience in downloading a software application and ending up with some disruptive malware--fortunately nothing devastating, but very annoying. I had major problems myself after downloading (from what I always thought was a trusted download source) a photo-editing application. Anyway, one of the people in the class does not have genealogy software and wanted to know if I knew whether it was "safe" to download the My Heritage Family Tree Builder. I didn't really expect to have a problem, but hated to suggest that she download it without at least asking if anyone else had any problems. Thanks for your feedback. Greetings, The Billy W. Sills Center for Archives/FWISD presents, "Time Travel along Camp Bowie Boulevard" by Juliet George on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Coffee and nibbles begin at 9:30 am with the program to begin at 10 am. If your childhood was spent in a city, you probably lived in an identifiable neighborhood. Our identity, our character, our values are often shaped by the neighborhood in which we played, worked, shopped, and went to school as youngsters. Our orientation to a city is usually centered on neighborhoods -- the location of businesses, schools, and streets. The street that defines Arlington Heights, for most people who grew up in Cowtown, is Camp Bowie Boulevard -- associated today with brick pavers, boutiques, museums, and restaurants. Before there was a boulevard, the area west of the Trinity River's Clear Fork was a vast grassland prairie reaching toward the sunset. A trolley began crossing a modest bridge there in the early 1890s, chugging toward the new suburb of Chamberlin Arlington Heights. The stretch west of present University Drive was renamed Camp Bowie after World War I. As Ridglea emerged and grew, the boulevard and its name extended further west. On April 12, Juliet George returns to the Archives Center to narrate some fascinating images that have helped define the thoroughfare. The Billy W. Sills Center is located at 2720 Cullen Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Please call (817)814-2040 or e-mail: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> for further information. I've downloaded and installed Family Tree Builder. 1. It appears to me to be satisfactory for maintaining a family tree, and it can be synced with a copy of your personal tree on MyHeritage, if you so choose. 2. I have not gotten any malware with it, nor would I expect to get any. Why do you ask? Dear Karen, Here goes the translation as best I interpret it for your understanding (not a literal translation; question marks indicate possible transcription errors on my part): Number 984, Agustín Albarelli, Intestinal inflammation In the City of Colima at 4 PM, on the 25th of August of 1882, before me, the "Ing." (professional title abbreviation) of the Registry Office, appeared Carlos Meillon, 49 years old, married, originally from Guadalajara, landowner and neighbor, who said: today at 12:30 in the afternoon, Agustín Albarelli died of intestinal inflammation, being of 60 years old, single, landowner, originally from Manchón?, Province of Piamonte, Italy and a neighbor of this city; acting as witnesses for this death: Felipe Amanioun? and Luis Rivera; the first being 46 years old, single, gainfully employed, originally from France and a neighbor; the second being 25 years old, single, flebotano? (no idea), originally from here. Here ending this Act, the same was read to them and having given burial to the cadaver in the City's Pantheon, those in knowledge of the same signed in good faith: Remigio Rodriguez = Carlos Meillon = Felipe Amanioun = Luis F. Rivera N. B. : Hope this helps. If you need another pair of eyes for the question marks, even though I'm 100% bilingual, this style of Mexican legalese might be better interpreted by my Mexican daughter-in-law who is also bilingual. If necessary, tell me and I'll have her look at it. And I'm not doing so well at that, LOL! I'm trying to understand the death record of Agustin Albarelli, who died 25 August 1882 in Colima, Mexico. I'm pretty sure this is the proper record: Does it say he died of inflammation of the intestines? Sixty years old? From Monclavo, Piedmont, Italy? Who are the other people named (Luis Rivera, Carlo Meillon, etc.)? Does it say how long he was in Colima (he was in San Luis Obispo, California in 1859) or anything else interesting, or is most of the record boiler plate?
