Hi all For those with an interest, both findmypast and the National Archives of Ireland (and soon familysearch) have made available the pre 1901 Irish census fragments They cover some places in 1821, 31, 41 & 51 but far from all and not in all years for the same place There are also 1908 pension application forms which relate to the 1841 & 1851 census http://www.genealogy.nationalarchives.ie/ They should be the same data but I found many more hits on Findmypast, but found many but not all are duplicated I also found people on one site but not on the other, both ways around The search on findmypast covers all years at the same time, with the NAI search you have to change the year For those who are not aware, the National Archives of Ireland also have the 1901 & 1911 census of Ireland Tithe Applotment books 1823 - 1837 Soldiers Wills 1914 - 1918 Calendars of Wills & Administrations 1858 - 1922 -- Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK)

The individual named in the SUBJECT above is my Step Grandfather; he was Widowed when his First wife died while giving birth to twins in 1904, one of the Twins survived. He later married my previously Widowed paternal Grandmother in 1907. I have records for him back to his birth in Bohemia, his entry into the United States, a 1900 U.S. Federal Census, a copy of his FIRST marriage in November, 1900 in Texas, and a tale of the birth/death event. I am SEEKING documentation of his FIRST WIFE'S DEATH and the DEATH of one child. 1) First Wife => Anna Roemisch. Born 08.Sep.1876 in Rosshaupt, Bohemia. Died 18.Sep.1904 in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It has been said that the birth attendants may have been a Volunteer Religious Group. 2) His first Wife's died in Oklahoma when giving birth to twins, one of whom survived. The birth (and death of Wife & death of one child) is reported to be 18.Dec.1904. 3) Despite numerous attempts I am unable to get a Record of the deaths OR the birth of surviving twin. 4) It is reported they were traveling by Train, possibly to meet relatives already living in Ramsey County, St. Paul, Minnesota. I have not found a record for him on the 1905 Minnesota State Census (conducted 05 .Jun.1905) or in the St. Paul Directory suggesting he hadn't yet arrived (it's 169 days between the birth date and the State Census (date 18. Dec. 1904 & 05.Jun.1905). 5) I have a record of his second marriage to my Widowed Grandmother in 1907 and he appears on the 1910 Fed. He walked out on his family Wife and 10 children sometime between 1910 & Sep.12.1915 when he registered for the WWI Draft in Grey's River, WA, on 12.Sep.1915. He next appears on the 1920 Fed. Census as a Boarder in Catslop, Oregon. He died in 1932 and is buried in Washington County, Oregon, in the Zimmerman Family Cemetery. Can anyone suggest how I can recover a document for Anna nee ROMEISCH BIERMEIER and a un-named son who died on 18.Dec.1904 in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There appears to be NO official site for recovering this information !!?? L. J. (Bud) Swendner Half-Vast Family Researcher

I agree, especially since he could have died in SF (in 1959), been buried there initially and moved to Colma. Since this is a Roman Catholic cemetery, they may have church records that give more information. Barbara You may have already done this, but checking the death certificates for Eddie, Sallie, and Annie may give the mother's name. I think one question would be "how do you know her name was Carter?" Is this a family story? While it's pretty common to know a wife's first name, but not last, or not knowing either, it's pretty unusual to know the family name, and not the given name. Is it possible that "Johnie" was the mother (see 1900 census) and she actually ran away, or was kicked out, rather than dying? He still could have been referred to as "widowed." That was pretty common. In 1900, were there other Carter girls who could be the mother? Could she have been married to a Carter, and the marriage to Carroll was a second marriage? Hope these ideas are helpful. Searching the California Death Index for 1940 and after, there is not any John Leith with a date resembling that at all, that I could see. It might be a good idea to also check the pre 1940 California death index. I think this might be likely to be an indexing error, and that the resolution may have to come by writing or calling the cemetery office. I had an instance where a cemetery website had a totally wrong date of death for someone on their website. I had the obituary, called and discussed it with them (this was on the east coast, not california) and when they checked their records, they discovered that there was a data input error, and they corrected their website. I hope that someone can assist me with this unusual bit of information that I have to work with in trying to locate firm information about him. On the Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County web site it gives the following information for a John B. Leith. Buried: Jan. 8, 1985, Sec. H, Row 79, Grave 31 ESTIMATED Death 1985 I have tried looking for an obituary/death aticle for 1985 up until the time he was buried on Jan. 8, 1985 and could not locate one. I would like to locate an accurate birth date or some other information present in an obituary/death article to determine if he is the right John B. Leith. Ii would appreciate any information, suggestions or other ideas as to things I might try to bring forth some firm information. Many thanks, and please reply to [email protected]
The San Francisco Colma Cemetery Index has: Leith, John B, 8 Jan 1985, Section H, Row 79, Grave 31, Holy Cross. http://www.sfgenealogy.com/php/cemetery/cemeterysearch.php It doesn't indicate whether that is a burial date, or a death date. However, of interest is that the grave also includes Anne A Leith, dated 30 Aug 1950. Perhaps that helps? The Cal Death Index has her as Anne Agnes Leith, b 20 May 1888 in "other country" d 26 Aug 1950. No parents' names listed. John does not appear on the index, with those dates. However, there is a listing for John Baptist Leith, b 13 Dec 1881, California, d 30 Oct 1959, San Francisco, Mother's maiden name Angonnet. This JBL (jr), according to his WWI Draft Registration, was born 13 Dec 1881, living in Oakland, California in 1918, a packer for Emporium Co., in San Francisco. John Baptist Leith (senior) was born 24 July 1853 in Valparizo, Chile, died 17 Apr 1938. He was a retired jeweler. Buried at Woodlawn. (no wonder you're confused here!!!) In 1930, there were three John B Leiths living in San Francisco. The first, born in Chile, age 76, Junior, 49, divorced, born in California, (mother and father both born Chile), and grandson, 16, b California of Californian parents. The 1920 census provides the information that John, senior's wife was Carlotta. Carlotta was born in California, father born in France, mother born in Chile. Ah, the 1900 gives us the skinny. John B, Jr, was born Dec 1881. Father born Jul 1851. He and Charlotta (b Nov 1866) have been married 14 years. There is also a Funeral Home Record for Anita Viola Taylor, b 9 Apr 1891, d 8 Jul 1980, San Francisco, father John Baptist Leith, mother Charlotte Angonnet. Entombment: Cypress Lawn, Colma. (Most San Francisco deaths are/were buried in Colma, as SF ran out of cemetery space very early and even the graves were moved.) The above was all from Ancestry and FindAGrave. From GenealogyBank, we further find that the San Francisco Bulletin, dated 14 Dec 1881, lists "Leith -- In this city, December 13, to the wife of John B. Leith, a son." 2 Sep 1937 the SF Chronicle has, under marriages: "Leith-Hamilton -- John B Leith Jr., 21, 1139 Pierce st., and Ann Agnes Hamilton, 18, 856 Stanyan st." That may not help much, but it does tell you who the John B Leith in the grave was married to. Hope this helps. Good afternoon, We have subscribed to a new database called HistoryGeo.com<http://www.historygeo.com/v2/forlibraries/> that will help patrons doing genealogy research: This resource is available at all Fort Worth Library locations, but at this time there is no remote access. Links have been added to the Library's website on the Databases and Genealogy pages. Here's a description from the vendor: HistoryGeo.com is a subscription service from Arphax Publishing Co. that helps you take your family history research to a whole other level: analyzing the places behind your people and the events that shaped their lives can reveal so much more than mere documents. For instance, you can quickly discover your ancestors' neighbors, many of whom intermarried or migrated together. HistoryGeo features two unique mapping tools: the First Landowners Project and the Antique Maps Project. The First Landowners Project delivers over 8 million original landowners in a single map layer, with more to come. The Antique Maps Project, which is growing weekly, features 4000+ maps from around the United States, most of which feature landowners from different periods. And international coverage will be coming soon. Do a quick surname search on our homepage and you'll get a sense of the breadth of maps and indexed data available to you. Thousands (if not millions) have relied on our books for years, and now our work is available in its entirety, 24-hours a day. HistoryGeo.com is listed in Family Tree Magazine's Top 101 Best Websites for both 2012 and 2013. Are you attending the "Family History and DNA: Genetic Genealogy in 2014" conference in Burbank in June? If so, time is running out to save $$ with the early-bird discount. Register by April 30th for a substantial savings. Both the DNA event and the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree (June 6-8) both feature a track of sessions specifically for Irish research. Jamboree is produced by the Southern California Genealogical Society. FOR INFORMATION: http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/Jamboree/2014/DNAday.htm TO REGISTER ONLINE: http://www.scgsgenealogy.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=71 The "Family History and DNA: Genetic Genealogy in 2014" conference will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Hotel in Burbank, California. The event is co-sponsored by the Southern California Genealogical Society and ISOGG (International Society of Genetic Genealogy). Last year's conference - the first independent DNA conference -- was a huge success, and this year promises to be another outstanding event. Discounts are also available this year for those who attend both the DNA and Jamboree events, and for SCGS members. Here's a brief reminder of the outstanding speakers and activities planned for this year's DNA conference: Dr. Maurice Gleeson, Irish DNA expert, will open the conference with "How DNA Will Change the Face of Irish Genealogy." He will give several other presentations throughout Thursday and at Jamboree as well. We know that those with Irish descent will find Dr. Gleeson's presentations of great interest. ISOGG leadership is well represented among the faculty. Katherine Borges, CeCe Moore, Blaine Bettinger, Tim Janzen, MD; Kathy Johnston, MD; Bonny Cook, and Alice Fairhurst will all be making one or more presentations on Thursday. Blaine, CeCe and others will also be speaking at Jamboree. In addition, the DNA conference will feature G. Russell, JD, CG, CGL (The Legal Genealogist), Steve Morse, PhD, and Diahan Southard, Genetic Genealogy Consultant. Featured at the luncheon will be a panel discussion, "Peering Into the Future of Genetic Genealogy," moderated by Blaine Bettinger. Members of the panel include representatives of the major DNA testing companies, Joanna Mountain, PhD, of 23andMe; Bennett Greenspan of Family Tree DNA, and a representative of AncestryDNA. Diahan Southard will also participate in the panel discussion. Luncheon tickets will be available through May 24, 2014. Classes will be available for individuals with novice / beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of DNA experience and genealogy knowledge. Personal and small-group assistance will be available on Friday morning, June 6th, as part of the Jamboree Genealogy World event. Kathy Johnston and Bonny Cook are lining up hosts for the round table discussions. Complete information on the table topics will be available soon. Don't miss out on this outstanding conference! It's the only DNA-specific event that is held in conjunction with a major genealogy conference, so you can immerse yourself in a full weekend of DNA and genealogy.
