    1. Re: [ROOTS-L] what is the meaning of "lot" in an estate probate
    2. This will probably be an easy answer for some of you but it has me stumped just now. The probate 1850 Wake Co., NC lists farm animals and crops provided for the widow's yearly support. Number of bushels of crops and cows etc. are specifically listed and then "a lot of vegetables". I am assisting a cousin in preparing an article about the contested probate and we need to know what "a lot" means. We assume it's a measurement; however, searches have not revealed any measurement except a very old one at Wiki where a "lot" is a term meaning only a few grams from Middle Ages to 1900. The entire list is so specific that I doubt it, but could a "lot" be simply used in 1850 as it is today?

    3. Thank you all for your suggestions. It sounds as if the big question is whether the people involved will be satisfied with a layout that my genealogy software (Reunion for Mac) can produce. If yes, we can put the chart on a flash drive and go to a printer. If no, we're better off with a specialist company such as Heartland Family Graphics http://www.familygraphics.com/

    3. Hi Carola? Did you obtain the marriage certificate? It would give you the couples names, their condition, age, occupation, residence, fathers names and occupations and witnesses names (who may or may not be connected) all assuming they gave the information of course The Catholic Church register would contain the very same details but may also have some other notes on them, but may not The Catholic Church has always been somewhat reluctant to share its records so you may find difficulty finding anywhere that has them other than the Church itself In my experience most Churches unless they have a more modern priest are reluctant to get involved with modern ways of communicating, so whilst they may have an email address and perhaps a web page, they may not monitor them I think its a case of head office telling them they have to have a web presence but thats as far as it gets So a snail mail letter is more likely to succeed Looking at the GRO index, which has two couples per page in the period, Pasquale FACCHINI appears to have married either Luisetta MARTINA or Isabella PICKERING (my money would be on Luisetta :-) Yes Teeside indexes say the same Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 10/07/2014 21:07, [email protected] wrote: > > > Information I received from Teesside Archives Middlesbrough England > shows a March 3, 1907 marriage between Pasquale & Pasqua Facchini > at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hartlepool, England. 3. Vol 9 issue 169 Mr. Lewis, First thing, make a duplicate. Look locally for informed retoucher/restorer. Ask for samples of previous work results. Additional copies may be helpful. You want to compare before and after. If there is a community college or University nearby I expect someone can help, may be an instructor or a student. The person does not need to be in a photography class, a mixed media designer can learn how to do this. I do this in my home workroom after training in mixed media at our local Vocational College. Wishing you the best, enjoy the excitement of the results. not trying to catch up, beginning where I am

    3. I did my own 3' x 5' 20-generation tree at my local print shop, using their blueprint machine. I typed everything into my word processor, taped the pages together, and drew the lines in. Getting all of the spacing right requires more than one attempt before leaving home. The blueprint paper (which prints black-and-white) comes on a roll 3 feet wide, and any length your wall can handle. Turn it horizontal and enjoy.

    3. Genealogystuff.com has a 9 generation pedigree chart that is 3 ft. x 4 ft. I bought stencils from stencilsonline.com and am spending my summer gradually filling in the chart using the stencils. This is laborious and time consuming and not for everyone. If I could have found a way to generate the information on a computer, I would have, but couldn't. I don't mind doing the work because I like this sort of thing. The chart looks great. It has a "printed" and handmade feel about it both. When it's done, I'll have it copied in sepia tone and framed, and I think it will be lovely. If anyone thinks they would want to go this route, I can tell you what size fonts you'll need to fit the chart. 3. Hello, Carol. Family Chartmasters printed a 24x36 chart for me last October, a wedding gift. They have many, many options: I chose an 8-generation fan chart with a 4-surname label at the bottom. Full names, birth & death years. I decided that occupations (for 6 generations, limited by space) were more interesting than places or marriage info -- you might think otherwise. (Including places etc. would have meant much smaller type.) I suggest a sans serif typeface, such as Arial bold narrow, for easy reading. Printer used a parchment-look paper. The bride and groom displayed the framed chart at their reception, and we had many compliments.
