Hi Everyone Can anyone advise me the best way to fill in some gaps in my research please between a birth in 1819 in Washington Co. PA and a marriage in 1846 in Tarentum, Allegheny Co. PA. I have been researching Henry FULLER (perhaps FULLUM) who was born in 1819, March?? in Washington Co. PA. there has not been a birth/baptismal record found as yet for either HENRY or his 6 siblings (all b Washington Co. Robinson Twp?), parents NELSON FULLUM (died 1829) and MAGDALENA (died 1853 Indiana Co. Pa). Henry FULLER then marries Mary Ann ROSE in Tarentum, Allegheny Co. PA in 1846 (We have that marriage record). Henry is always FULLER after this point. The family do seem to be Presbyterian (at some stage) as NELSON FULLUM appears in the church records there in 1818 (colored) as a member of the RACOON, Presbyterian Church, Candor Robinson Twp. Are there any records that anyone can suggest to find out anymore details of Henry especially and/or his 6 brothers at all? HENRY and wife Mary Ann nee Rose were living in Armstrong Co. PA from the 1850 Census also Henry was in Indiana Co. Pa when his 4th child was born in 1852, this is where his possible mother MAGDALENA FULLEM/ER died. I have contacted the Armstrong Co. courthouse for tax records and they told me that there are tax records there from 1850 but I don’t know how I could check if Henry FULLER was those records as no assistance or advise was offered only that the books could be looked at, as I’m in Australia it is a bit difficult. Any advise/help is very much appreciated. Kindest regards Dianna from Sydney Aus.

For Sharon, and others interested. For several years I have been using a Free program called GIMP. It works on Windows, Apple, and Linux. It reads many types of photographs, documents and then lets you save them in several formats. I am not associated with them, just a very contented user. It is available from:https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ and some others. The best part...it is free. Hope it works for you. Jim Today's Topics: 1. Graphic viewer for a IMAC computer HELP! A lot is being posted about DNA testing. And Most of the answers are comming from people I know to know what they are talking about but some requesting answers have many terms confused. First FTDNA and ANCESTRYDNA are companies not tests. there are three main DNA tests offered by most of the different companies. 1. y-dna testing 2. MTDNA testing 3. Autosomal chromosome / atDNA testing To know what test to use, you must decide what answers you want to find. GO READ IT MIGHT HELP: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/index.htm NOW, my opinion about testing... For ten years I searched for my father's ancestors. John G Gilpin my dad's grandfather was my brick wall. there were other gilpins in the area but no paper proof they were related when testing of the Y chromosome became available I had my brother tested.. there were two other Gilpin males tested in the same batch. two were matches and one wasn't .. so years go by and I'm more convinced by perponderance of evidence that the Thomas Gilpin that lived in the same area was John G's dad.. no proof.. after a few more years I found a descendant of Thomas willing to test if I paid for it.. perfect match so YDNA did not actually prove Thomas was his father BUT IT DID PROVE THEY WERE related... with all the other evidence I have listed Thomas as his father. YOU must be careful when placing a dna match in a line of inheritance Thomas could just as easily be John G's uncle or even his grandfather if the ages had matched.. Beside being click bait there was a criminalist on tv addressing this and they said that genetic testing didn't test what the legal side does so commercial testing is pretty much useless for finding criminals. No, we had my mother's first cousin (male) do the swab. There are at least 35 PIKE families that have tested in England, US, and Canada. Some of them have found matches, but no luck for ours. Sad, the the older generation has no passed without answers. I would update the markers if there were any indication we were even close to a match. I thought the autosomal DNA took the place of the Y DNA and the one for the maternal side. I paid several hundred dollars for a 37 marker Y DNA test 10 or 15 years ago for one of my lines. We have yet to make a match on that line. I find it really exciting to keep finding matches to several direct ancestral lines with the current Ancestry autosomal DNA test. My lines have tested up to about 7 or 8 generations thus far. I don't think that all of the tests are compatible with each other. One might want to read up on Gedmatch which can use DNA from other companies' tests. If so the Y DNA test at FTDNA is what he wants starting with 37 markers. If he wants to know all of the above...he should both. He can always upload his AncestryDNA results to FTDNA Family Finder later on to have additional resources. Joan Young jyoung6180@aol.com

There have been many articles written on this topic and most are nothing more than click bait fear-mongering. While it is possible with a court order for the authorities to request test results as AncestryDNA sources have stated...for the most part the type of testing done through our autosomal tests would not be helpful or of interest in criminal cases...so it is unlikely that is going to be an issue. Y DNA tests MAYBE but again, only with a court order and it is never likely to become common practice that they would request genealogy DNA data.
