    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Romero/Ramirez/Turner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mAEBAIB/536 Message Board Post: In Jan 1894 my gr aunt Lucinda Turner m. Jose M. Romero in Florence, Az. This was not a happy union. According to the divorce records Lucinda's father Smith R. Turner and her mother Lucinda Ramirez Turner forced the two to get married because Lucinda, Jr. was pregnant. Anyway to make a very long drawn out battle short a divorce was granted but according to the 1920 census my grandmother Lucinda Ramirez Turner has two grandsons living with her in Yvappi?, Az, their names being William Romero 22 and Jose Romero 15. As you can see the ages of these two boys does not come out to be 1894 or 1895 so there must have been another child before them if she was pregnant at the time she and Jose Romero were married and the two boys listed in the census were born after the divorce was granted. I don't know what happened to Lucinda's ex husband or the children. Anyone recognize these names? Also, one of my gr uncles was named Polixna, is this a common Hispanic name? If it were to be! Americanized what would the name Polixna be? There are no records of him anywhere or anyone with that name. Thanks, Roberta Turner Capello (Bobbi)

    3. Maweis, Could you give us any idea as to "when" Alto (Altee) Romero lived and died? And the same for Marie/Mary/Maria Miguez/Migues. About the naming practices in Southwest Louisiana...and Father Hebert's transcriptions....... In all probability, if the priest was spanish, he would have written "Maria"....if he was french, the priest would have written "Marie". Father Hebert transcribed the records and often instead of writing the names "as written", he replaced the names with their "English" equivilant. Thus "Marie" or "Maria" became "Mary". Because of this, we spent many years on a wild goose chase looking for information on a "Jane". She was "American" so we did not, at first, question the name. When we were able to get photocopies of the actual old church records in which she was named, we saw that her name was written Juana, Juanna, (Spanish Priest) and Jeanne (French Priest). With that information (and other supporting information) we were able to make progress.....It turns out that her name was Joanna (sometimes found as Johanna)...and from there we were able to trace her family back a few more generations.
