Romero, age 98, passed away July 6, 1998 at his home in Santa Rosa, following an illness. Donato was born March 13, 1900 in Colonias, New Mexico to the home of Adelaido and Florencia Romero. He was reared and attended schools in Colonias. Donato worked as a cowboy, as an auditor for the State of New Mexico, and was self-employed as a plumber. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. Donato was also a member of the Democratic Party and actively involved in politics. He served as board member for the Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools, Guadalupe Chairman, and Mayor of the City of Santa Rosa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Petrita U. Romero in 1956; and a son, Don J. Romero in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Rosalia Romero of the family home in Santa Rosa; five daughters, Pita Serrano and husband, Simon, Helen R. Padilla and husband, Frank, all of Albuquerque, Florence Lucero and husband, Laute of Santa Rosa, Patsy Campos and husb! and, Judge Santiago Campos of Santa Fe and Ramona B. Aguirre and husband, Manuel of Albuquerque. Also surviving is one sister, Rose Baca of Albuquerque; two brothers, Frank Romero of Oregon and Adelaido Sanchez of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Rosary services will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. from the St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday morning also from St. Rose of Lima Church at 10:00 a.m. with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren

She worked as a paralegal and office manager for Attorney John Polk for 21 years and took great pride in her work. She loved to travel and enjoyed the theatre. Above everything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. We are comforted knowing that she is with Jesus in heaven and no longer in any pain. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE. Her father was Trinidad Gregory Romero and his father was Bernard Romero. My ggggg grandfather was Baltazar Romero, one of the founders of Albuquerque, NM. My mother was born in Las Vegas, NM. Her birth name was Luz but she always used Lucille from what I have seen of her school records and high school year book. The family moved to Denver, Co when my mother was 7, about 1920. Her siblings were Herman (died 1986 in Cheyenne, Wy), Marie (Mary Ann) (died 1970/71 in Denver, Co) and Margie (died at age 17, about 1943 in Denver, Co). My mother died in 1988 in Ventura County, Ca. Does any of this sound familiar? Would love to find more family!

Romero was received into the arms of our Lord on January 25, 2003. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andres and Adelina G. Romero, also his wife of 43 years Amalia Romero. A beloved father, husband, son, grandfather, father in law and great grand father. He served in the US Army and is a veteran of World War II, and received an honorable discharge. He retired from Ed Blacks Chevrolet Center after 44 years of hard work as a Tow Truck driver, often being on call 24 hours a day. He will be missed tremendously although our hearts are broken he is at peace, no more suffering no more pain just eternal life. We will all wait for the day when we will see him again. His love that he had for his family was a special love. Always there to help in any way he could. We will carry his love and his memory every day or our lives. He is survived by his eight children.
