Adonais served in World War II, spending most of that time in Hawaii. He was a carpenter for 40 years and a lifetime rancher. He was also a very active and lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 17. He served on the Commission of the Acequias de Madre del Bosque and volunteered for years at the Velarde Fire Department. He also served as mayordomo for the San Jose Catholic Church in Lyden. He was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Romero; his mother and father, Bersabe and Tobias Romero; four brothers, Abenicio, Filiberto, Pedro and Juan Romero. He is survived by his wife, Lena Romero of Lyden; children, Joe Romero and wife Betty and Agnes Vigil and husband Johnny all of Velarde, Floyd Romero and wife Sylvia of Quartelez, Evelyn Heaphy and husband Mike and Louella Phillips and husband Chuck all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Neil Romero and wife Tammy of Redding, Calif., Jeannine Vigil of Albuquerque, Clariss! a Romero of Quartelez, Joyce Vigil of Mesquite, Texas, Anita Romero of Phoenix, Chris Heaphy of Albuquerque, John Vigil III of Velarde, Margaret Heaphy of Albuquerque, Adrianna Vigil of Velarde and Adam Phillips of Albuquerque; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Juan S. Romero and wife Edulia of Lyden and Pat Romero and wife Ernie of Albuquerque; and numerous nephews, nieces, brothers and sisters-in-laws, and other relatives and friends. Visitation is 6:30 p.m. today at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Velarde with a 7:30 p.m. rosary. He was the youngest son of Jacob and Laura Elliott Romero. Joseph was a student at Madison Middle School, a member of the Y.A.F.L. football team, and a member of the Church of the Risen Savior. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Milnor Romero in 1992. He is survived by his parents, Jacob and Laura Romero of Albuquerque; a brother, Patrick Romero of Albuquerque; two sisters, April Romero and Natasha Martinez, both of Albuquerque; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Fuller of Camden, AR; and paternal grandmother, Beatrice Romero of Albuquerque. Other survivors are four aunts, Melinda Elliott of Dallas, TX, Julie Romero Montoya, Jeanette Orosco and husband, Octavanio, Joyce Chavarria and husband, Leroy, all of Albuquerque; an uncle, David Elliott and wife, Kirstie of Mt. He retired in 1991 from the Whittenburg Ranch where he was employed as a farmer and rancher. A lifelong Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sapello. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose D. and Dolores Romero; son, Jose M. Romero; sister, Frances Romero-Montoya; mother and father-in-law, Epifano and Lucianita Torres; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Romero; brothers-in-law, Brigido Archibeque, Valentin Sandoval, and Albert Otero. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Torres) Romero of the family home in Las Tusas; son, Orlando A. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Jose married Rita Pena on November 1961. He worked for the State of New Mexico Highway Department for 25 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rita L. Romero, an Infant son, his brother Florenio Romero, his sister, Ermilinda Herrera and his nephew Carlos Herrera. Jose is survived by his daughter, Tina Romero of Encino, NM, his grandson Benjamin Romero also of Encino, a special niece Rebecca Apodaca of Santa Rosa and his cousin Mercedes Salas of Portales. Annette was born into this world on July 19, 1963. She went on to be with her maker/father on April 30, 2003. Annette was a 1981 graduate of Grants High School in Grants, New Mexico and attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas New Mexico. She courageously fought breast cancer for two years. Annette's faith carried her through many trials during her illness. Her sweet smile will be missed dearly. Annette is survived by her husband of almost 19 years, Dino D. Jones. Her sons are Justin A. Jones and Jacob H. Jones. As she put it, these were her"boys". Annette is also survived by her father and mother George H. and MaryLou Romero of Grants, New Mexico; her sister Patty Corley and her husband Stacey and children from Grants, New Mexico; her brother George J. Romero and his wife Rachel and son from Tempe, Arizona; Annette's grandmother Elvira M. Romero from Vadito, New Mexico; her father and mother in-law, Bobbie A. and Barbara Jones from Albuquerque, New ! Mexico; her brothers in-law, Charles and Jason Jones and sister in-law Tatia Jones all of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Annette was survived by many special friends and relatives who also loved her dearly. She was an inspiration to all of those who loved her and her memories will live in our hearts forever. He was born to the union of Minor Romero and Rita Sanchez on February 20, 1915 in the small community of El Alto located in the Mora Valley. He was preceded into salvation by his parents; sisters, Martha, Nea, Cecilia and Lucretia; brothers, Guadalupe, Roberto and Minor Jr.; grandson, Steven Journey; and daughter-in-law, Avelina (Abby) Romero. Nico leaves behind his loving wife, Flora G. Romero of the family home; his children, Angela K. Romero and husband, Frank, Nicomedez Romero Jr. and wife, Donna, John T. Romero and wife, Elizabeth, and Alfonso Romero, all of Mora, Frances Romero and husband, Harry and Jeana Journey, all of Albuquerque, and Robert Valdez of Las Vegas, NM; adopted grandchildren following their mother's death, Carla Martinez and husband, Leslie of Albuquerque, Jerome Romero and wife, Gaynor of Australia, and Geraldine Coleman and husband, Joseph of ! Denver, CO; two sisters; three brothers; 23 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Nico was a lifelong rancher in the Mora Valley. He married Flora Garcia in 1942, after which he and four of his brothers served together in Europe, Africa and the Pacific, during World War II. Nico participated in seven major campaigns: North Africa (Tunisia), Sicily, Normandy, N. France, Ardenns, Rhinland, and Central Europe. After the war, Nico worked as a surveyor's assistant for the New Mexico State Highway Department, from which he retired in 1977. Nico was a devoted Catholic, having served as a Majordomo of Santa Gertrudis and a member of La Union Catolica de San Jose. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1131 and served for many years as a member of the Central Committee of the Mora Democratic Party. A Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 5, at St. Gertrudes Catholic Church in Mora. A funeral Mass was celebrated by Father Tri on Monday, July 6, 1998, 10:00 a.m., at St. ! Gertrudes Church. Nico was laid to rest in his homeland of El Alto. Pallbearers were John T. Romero Jr., Joseph Romero, Amos Nick Romero, Harry Romero Jr., Nicholas Luna, and Rick Tafoya.
