He was 62. Romero was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque and a 1960 graduate of the old Albuquerque High School. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1997, then worked for Tri-Core Reference Laboratories for the past six years. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he and his wife were extensively involved in the Pre-Cana Marriage Program for 28 years. Romero was an avid collector of antique automotive memorabilia and spent countless hours working on his display collection. He took great pride in showing his collection to friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Hilario Romero, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rosalie Romero; son, Gabriel Romero; mother, Mary Romero; sister, Phyllis Romero; brothers, Polidor (Polo) Romero and wife, Sandra, and John Romero and wife, Frances; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Our beloved Bernie died peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2003, surrounded by family and friends. Bernie is survived by her daughter, Michelle Ortiz; parents, Gene H. and Minerva Romero; and five siblings, Evelyn"Eve" Romero and husband, Jon Mustonen, Gary Romero and wife, JoAnn, Gene F. Romero, Claire Romero and husband, David Bomse, and Larry Romero and wife, Irma Chavez. She was also a loving aunt to four nieces, Misa, Andrea, Marisol, and Sofia, and four nephews, Alex, Christopher, Aaron and Gene. Bernie will also be sorely missed by her uncle and aunts, Boleslo and Dora Romero, Soveida Gonzales, and Helen Crowe; as well as numerous cousins. Bernie was born in Albuquerque on July 22, 1946. After graduating from Valley High School in 1965, she moved to Santa Fe where she worked for the state. Back in Albuquerque, Bernie pursued a career in the food industry as a caterer, restaurant manager, and cook. Gourmet cooking was top among her many ! passions and through much of her life Bernie created sumptuous feasts for friends and family. We miss our dear Bernie but her love of music, antiques, floral design, good literature, and vintage films will always live in our hearts. Direct cremation has taken place in Albuquerque. Rosary will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 7:00 p.m., and Memorial Service with Holy Mass will take place on Friday, August 22, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave. NE, Albuquerque.
