Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mAEBAIB/679 Message Board Post: ROMERO, CARMEN May 11, 1926 to Feb. 4, 2004 Carmen Graciela Gonzalez Vega was born on May 11, 1926 and raised in Hermosillo, Sinaloa, Mexico. Her parents moved their family to Mexicali, Baja California in 1948. She met Rene R. Romero in Calexico, Calif. in 1952 and married in 1954 in San Diego. They raised two sons, Rene and Ruben, and have two grandchildren, Rene Rey age 7 and Trenton Ruben age 3. Carmen resided in Fletcher Hills since 1963 in the friendly neighborhood of Berenda Place. Her home became the meeting place of her friends and son ' s friends. Their home was filled with her love and friendship to all that entered. The kitchen ' s aroma of home cooked food greeted all that entered and her cooking filled the appetites of many friends. Her adopted children all life long friends of her son ' s experienced her Mother ' s love and caring. Many called her Mama in a loving manner. Carmen ' s faith in God and devotion to her religion showed in all her caring and giving t! o those in need. She believed in God ' s miracles and was one herself for her cancer recoveries over the past 31 years. Many times her prayers were given to many who were ill. She always had a friendly smile and provided kind words to all she met. Carmen was active in many charitable organizations including Club Socorro, Caridad Int ' l and Lady of Charity all of which donated time and money to the poor in Tijuana, during the 1960 ' s, 70 ' s and 80 ' s. During the 1970 ' s her home was the meeting place of all of her son ' s friends that attended Grossmont High School. Many of her adopted sons and daughter ' s learned to enjoy a machaca burrito and home made hot sauce. Some even learned Spanish. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally. Her remaining wish in life was to enjoy more time with them. Carmen ' s love and friendship will remain strong in everyone who knew her. She was a devoted wife, beautiful mother and faithful friend with a genero! us spirit and engaging personality. Her memory will always bring love and a smile to those who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Rene R. Romero. She is survived by her sons Rene and Ruben, daughter-in-law Olga, grandchildren Rene Rey and Trenton Ruben, sisters Emma, Cristina and Belen. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2766 Navajo Rd, El Cajon, CA 92020 (619) 469-0133, www.olg-church.org. They lived in Coteau which is country right outside New Iberia, where I was raised. My great grandfather passed down property to him children and grandchildren in Coteau. Floraida is also survived by her brother, Paul Silva and wife, Gloria. She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew (Tito); and 13 brothers and sisters. She was the 14th of 15 children. Floraida was a graduate of Cathedra! l High School and a former member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Ms. Romero was a longtime employee of the BIA. Rosary will be recited on Friday, December 26, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, 215 West Wilson in Gallup, NM. Interment will follow. MARTINEZ, 103, of Guachupangue died Monday. She had a green thumb and loved to plant, as well as read the newspaper and her devotional. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Sagrada Familia and the Sacred Heart Society. She was the last member of the original families who homesteaded Los Alamos. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Martinez; sons, Guadalupe Martinez Jr. and Erminio Martinez; daughter, Teresa M. Gallegos; parents, Victor Romero and Refugio S. Romero; brothers, David and Ernesto Romero; and sisters, Frosina R. Sanchez and Ernestina R. Gonzalez. She is survived by her son, Manuel M. Martinez and wife Mercedez; daughters, Rosanna M. Bennett, Rosario M. Fiorillo, Louisa M. Benton and husband Kip, and Gloria Maestas; daughter-in-law, Alejandrina Martinez; 42 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
