Surnames: Romero, Lujan, Santistevan Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mAEBAIB/324.341.343.346.348.351.367.372.1.1 Message Board Post: Then we're cousins! Maximiano married Jacinta Santistevan. Their children were Matilda Sophia, Amalia Odela, Maria Celia, and maximiano eduardo. Sophia married Oliver Helphenstine, and they were my grandmother's parents. my grandmother married Patricio Romero (my grandfather), who was the son of Santiago (brother to Maximiano). Juan Felipe Romero's parents were Tomas Romero and Maria de la Encarnacion Cordova. Maria Dominga de la Nieves Lujan's parents were Jose Antonio Lujan and maria Antonia Mestas from Picuris (so were they Pueblo Indians?) Dominga's brother was a Catholic priest, Padre Jose de Jesus Lujan and is referenced in Chavez' book on Father Antonio Jose Martinez, "But Time and Chance". I also have a newspaper article on Dominga published by a family member from the Taos Review. Jacinta's father is Don Juan de la Reyes Santistivan and is pictured in "Kit Carson and his Three Wives". He is buried in the Kit Carson Cemetery in Taos. I have the whole pedigree on this family going back to the 1600's in New Mexico. (My father's cousin is a Mormon.) I have much more information. If you're interested, please reply and I'll furnish more. I've spent many hours at the Denver Public Library - also long trips to New Mexico. Santiago's house in Taos is now for sale - a mere $2.1 million. It's right next to Our Lady of Guadelupe across the street from the Plaza (north). You can find it on the internet if you search real estate in Taos. It's huge, has green shutters, two casitas, and a studio.

Surnames: ROMERO, MARTINEZ, DURAN, MOSTRON OR MUSTRON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mAEBAIB/702.1.1 Message Board Post: HELLO, THANK YOU FOR THIS REPLY, ALTHOUGH I AM REGRETABLY A YEAR LATE IN SEEING IT. MY MAIN PROBLEMS ARE CONNECTING JOSE HIPOLITO ROMERO'S DAUGHTER MARIA NATIVIDAD TO MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER MARIA EDUVEGEN ROMERO AND HER SUPPOSED FATHER, AN ARMY MAN BY NAME OF ----MOSTRON, OF DUTCH DESCENT, STATIONED AT NEARBY POST. THE DATES SEEM ABOUT RIGHT, BUT A BAPTISMAL NOTICE FOR A MARIA EDUVEGEN ROMERO GIVES ONLY A MARIA NATIVIDAD ROMERO AS MOTHER, AND NO GRANDPARENTS OR FATHER. HER MARRIAGE NOTICE TO ANTONIO MARTINEZ, GREAT GREAT GRANDSON OF SEVERINO MARTINEZ AND MARIA DEL CARMEN SANTISTEVAN OF TAOS , ONLY LISTS A MARIA NATIVIDAD ROMERO AS HER DECEASED MOTHER. MY MOTHER HAD TOLD OF ADOPTIONS AND INDIAN RAIDS AND INFANT SURVIVORS IN REFERENCE TO EDUVEGHEN. SINCE JOSE HIPOLITO ROMERO'S GRANDSON BY DAUGHTER MARIA NATIVIDAD HAD BEEN ADOPTED BY A DURAN UNCLE, MY OWN MOTHER'S VERSION SEEMED POSSIBLE. EDUVEGEN WAS VERY TALL, BLONDE, AND BLUE EYED, NOT A USUAL SIGHT IN TAOS IN THOSE DAYS, WAS SHE THE INFANT SURVIVOR OF AN INDIAN RAID NEAR AN AMERICAN POST? WAS A MARIA NATIVIDAD ROMERO HER ACTUAL MOTHER OR A KIND ADOPTER? WAS SHE THE SISTER OF THE BOY ADOPTED BY THE DURANS? EDUVEGEN LIVED TO BE OVER A HUNDRED, DYING AROUND 1950, AND HELPED RAISE MANY GRANDCHILDREN OF HER SON'S AND DAUGHTER'S SEPARATE FAMILIES. MOST WENT TO CALIFORNIA AND THEY ARE ALL DECEASED. MY SISTER, FOUR OF HER CHILDREN, THREE GRANDCHILDREN, TWO FIRST COUSINS, AND MY SON WERE ALL BORN BLONDES WITH BLUE OR LIGHT EYES, LIKE MARIA EDUVEGEN. LD ALTHOUGH I HAD EVEN A BAPTISMAL NOTICE IN TAOS BAPTISM BOOK, COMP. BY THOMAS MARTINEZ LISTS ONLY MARIA EDUVEHEN ROMERO AS DAUGHTER OF MARIA NATIVEDAD ROMERO. NO GRANDPARENTS WERE GIVEN. I DO HAVE A FATHER'S NAME OF MOSTRON, OF DUTCH DESCENT, FROM NEARBY ARMY POST, BUT NO PAPER PROOF. STILL STYMIED. LD
