Hi: I am hoping that someone can explain my confusion. I have just purchased a few microfiche from the N.D.F.H.S.. The microfilm that has me rather confused is 1871 Census Index of Newcastle - St. Andrews. Would someone possibly check the physical record in Newcastle? Does anyone have any suggestions on my next step? Solving the ANDERSON mystery I suspect will ultimately solve the question of how Margaret ANDERSON ended up with my Grandmother. There is a tie between all of these people to a Jeannie GIBSON (aka JANE/Jean/?) and Thomas HUNTER who were my grandmother Evelyn Annie HUNTER's parents when she was born in Folkstone on 4 December 1904. The question is where is the link? I have traced my step-grandmother's birth and have the birth certificate and death certificate for her and two of her brothers. I have found two separate Anderson's at two separate addresses. Perhaps someone can make sense of the following: Birth Certificates: Reference: 1858 # 493 Newcastle - St. Andrews Alexander ANDERSON (boy) born 2 Oct 1858 5 Princes Street. Father: Alexander Anderson - French Polisher Mother: Thomasine Anderson formerly Hutchinson (was this a second marriage or maiden name?) Reference: 1855 # 467 Newcastle - St. Andrews Margaret ANDERSON (Girl) born 18 October 1855 5 Princes Street. Father: Alexander Anderson - French Polisher (Master) Mother Thomasin Anderson formerly Hutchinson Have not yet received the last brothers birth Certificate. Death Certificates: Reference: 1920 # 322 Newcastle - All Saints 29 March 1920, 86 Percy Street, Newcastle Alexander ANDERSON (Male) 61 Years French Polisher died of Heart Failure following Rheumatism. Reference 1944 # 16 Northumberland West - Bellingham 27 November 1944 Kielder Castle - Kielder, R.D. The above three people were related with no doubt. My Margaret and Alexander are in the first family, but their brother John Lambert is listed in the second family. Is there a remarriage? Did the family split and the kids spend time with other family members? Can anyone make any sense of my mystery? I am trying to figure out who is related to who and how. ANY and ALL guidance, assistance, directions...anything is most appreciated. Carol Watson Georgetown, Ontario, Canada

Hi ---- My Clarks are one of my weak links. James Emerson Orme married 1) Callie (California) Clark. (b. 10/1851 Lamar/Fannin Co., TX---d. 8/1882 in Harrison Co., TX) She is the first child of Johnathan Miles Clark (born in Coosa Co., AL) of Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co., TX and wife 1) Mary Murphy Gulledge (born in Greenpond, Hopkins Co., TX). They also have children Littleberry Clark (M), Sidney Clark (F), Margaret Clark, & Henrietta Clark. Johnathan's second wife isCordelia Murphy--they have 8 children...John Miles Clark, Cordelila Clark, Elizabeth Clark, Thomas Clark, Robert A. Clark, Walter Lewis Clark, Della Mae Clark, & Edward Clark. That's it...the sum total of my info. I found this information in a book in the Sulphur Springs gen. library. Supposedly, Johnathan Clark was very well off in the 1850/1860's sense of wealth. He ran a general store in the town, had a big house, and later owned one of the first cars in the territory. I guess he had to be well greased to raise all those children! I hope this will connect with someone. Please E-mail me if you have more or I can help. Always glad to share. In the fall of 1866 John Porter McKay(1830-1883) and his wife Louis Ruth Foster (1832-1898) sold their land in the Laurel Hill area of Neshoba Co., MS (before this they had lived in Union Co., South Carolina) to his brother James, packed their belongings and 3 sons: Albert(1855-1913), William "Willie" Alexander (1858-1941) and Thomas (1866-1870) and joined a wagon train of about one hundred people heading for Texas. The wagon train was made up of relatives and neighbors most from the Laurel Hill area and members of the Old Caroline Presbyterian Church and had attended school together, also. Some of the men had served together in the Confederate Army in one of two companies in the Laurel Hill comm. One was Williams Co., Miss. Calvary, named for its founder Capt. W. G. Williams, and the other was the Scotland Guard--for the reason that the community was populated mainly by descendants of Scottish immigrants who had settled in North Carolina. Most were related by blood or marriage. The wagon train was made up from many families, including McKay, McDonald, Foster, Stribling, Foster (formerly of Virginia > SC), Gambling, McMillian, Milner, Wallace, Hurley( NC>TN>MS>TX), Ledbetters, and many others. They travelled through Louisiana into Arkansas, but found the land too mountainous for sucessful farming but the further north they went the easier the stream crossings were, then into Texas. First to the area of Whitewright in Grayson Co., but failed to find enough water to farm, then came to the Reilly Springs area and settled.
