In a message dated 98-01-27 03:53:57 EST, you write: << I am doing research on the Smotherman's of Wayne Co TN and also Rutherford Co. TN. i have a Ardilla Catherine Smotherman b. feb 28, 1856 who's father was James Smotherman b 1792-1870 most of these came from Rutherford Co. TN. Well -- there's good news and there's bad news. Rutherford Co. seems to be where most of the Smothermans ended up for a few generations. I have several James Smotherman/Smitheman's . But no wives/children for most of them. But here goes. Since Ardilla Catherine was born in 1856 I'd say the most likely candidates could be (1)James A. Smotherman born 1828 in TN --his father was Elijah Smotherman bm 1795 in Randolph Co. NC. Mother -- Nancy Leathers. They had 11 children that I know of. Mary b. 1820, Thomas b. 1822, Elizabeth b. 1824, Elbert D. b. 1826, Josephine b.1828, James b. 1828 (twin??), Jane b. 1830,, Martha A. b. 1832, Phoebe (big family name !) b. 1835, John b.1842, and Julia A., born 1844. Our second candidate is the son of Jesse Smitherman (same family-Elijah's brother) b., 1798 in NC married to Betsy ALLY. Their kids are Littleton b. 1819, JAMES b. 1822, Thomas L. b. 1823, Spencer b. 1825, William b. 1827, John b. 1829, Samuel b. 1831, Julius J. born 1839. Next choice is James Smitherman (Elijah's brother too) b. 1802 in NC md. to Margaret Latham. They have 4 childeren--no James'. One posibility is the 4th child of Lewis Smotherman b. 1793 NC & Mary A. Williams. He is listed as J. Barton born 1823. Lewis, James, Elijah, & Jesse are the children of John Smotherman, Sr. who was born in Fairfax Co., Virginia. He married Mary Barker. He also died circa 1833 in Rutherford Co., TN. I am related to John through his 8th child - Abraham Smotherman who married Mary A. Williams. This family (Abraham's) can be found on the census in many places....1830-Williamson Co. TN, 1840 - Rutherford Co., TN, 1850 - Callaway Co., KY (why?) , 1860 Texas Co. MO, 1870 - Texas Co., MO, and finally in 1880 Mary is living with a daughter in Shannon Co., MO. The next clue would be the grandson of Thomas Smitherman who is John Smotherman, Sr.'s brother. He is born circa 1750 VA. d. 12 Dec 1812 NC. His first son John b. 1770 VA married cousin Mary Barker (don't you know that was confusing on the census !) They have 10-15 children. Lewis 1793, Elijah 1795, Phoebe 1796, Jesse 1798, William 1800, James 1802, Nancy 1805, Abraham 1806, John Jr., 1813, and maybe five more. (Ouch!) But wait there's more--Thomas' 3rd son William Smotherman b 1779 NC mar. Elizabeth Dean --they have 9 known children.....Andrew 1809, John 1812, Sarah 1816, Edy C. 1822, Elvira 1825, Thomas 1825, Lively 1828, James M. 1829, & Dennis W. 1831. NOW-we're almost there--Thomas' 5 child--also named Thomas Smitherman 1788 NC md. Elizabeth Loudermilk. THEY have 13 children. William 1814, Mary 1816, John 1818, Thomas 1820, Elizabeth 1822, Noah B. 1824, Margaret 1826, Martha 1828, Marion 1830, Rachel 1832, Juliana 1834, JAMES 1837 & Adeline 1838. I would be happy to send you my lines..I use Family Tree Maker 4.0 on Windows 95. but can save it in a lower version. Good luck. I hope I have helped and not confused you more ! Marjorie, Thank you for your reply. I don't see anything that matches right now. The oldest one we have is Eli GLOVER b. abt. 1820 in AL. All the information we have on him is that he lived in Dale and Henry Counties in Southeast Alabama. His wife was Ann CREEL, b. Nov 1841. Children (known) were Laura GLOVER b. abt. 1860, and Alford Grady GLOVER b. abt. 1862. I will put your message in my GLOVER file and if anything comes up I will contact you. Hi, I have researched these surnames of mine until I am at the end of my resources. I can not find some of them in any of the census's and do not know when they came over or from where. The few people that I have found with the same last name have said there was no relation. I don't have much information to go on and what I am about to post is the name of the person, the cemetery and the date of interment. I don't even know how some of them are related!! Other relatives don't know either. Unless otherwise noted. Thank you in advance for any help!! Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, New York (this cemetery is very old and no one supposedly takes care of it, according to the Catholic Cemeteries, which I wrote and they gave me what I already had) A_____ NUETZEL buried 18 February 1893 Laila BENEDICTA buried 7 September 1886 John BILLA buried 18 April 1910 John SPEER buried 6 February 1911 (he was 2 years old) Gertrude BLEIMUELLER buried 2 November 1918 George BLEIMUELLER buried 10 January 1938 Marie BLEIMUELLER buried 11 May 1910 John BLEIMUELLER buried 5 May 1910 Agnes LEYKUM buried 11 February 1900 John BLEIMUELLER buried 19 September 1893 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are notes from an aunt of mine that I have tried looking up in census's and other resources on the internet. Anna BLEIMUELLER - daughter of John BLEIMUELLER and Anna LEYKUM - born 9 December 1882 - died 25 March 1952 - buried 29 March 1952 William SPEER - son of August SPEER and Anne Dorothy BERNARD - born 16 November 1883 - died 10 August 1954 - buried 13 August 1954. Anna BLEIMUELLER and William SPEER were married on 30 May 1905 Louis BLEIMUELLER buried in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, New York in a plot under NUETZEL. His fathers name was John BLEIMUELLER. His sisters were Anna BLEIMUELLER SPEER and Gertrude (who died in 1918 above). Louis's father, John, had a brother named George. George had three children: Agnes, George Jr., and Marie. Marie BLEIMUELLER married John SCHMEGNER of New Jersey. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The following are great aunts and uncles. I have found a few on the LDS SS Death Index. Eva SPEER (my great grandpa's sister) married Herman BRAUN. She died 12 September 1964 and he died 27 July 1970. John SPEER who died 30 December 1965 married Rose WEISS. After John died Rose married Lester SCHULTZ who died 14 April 1971. They had no children. Gertrude SPEER - born 2 March 1907 - died 6 September 1939 - buried 9 September 1939 August SPEER - born 8 October 1905 - buried 26 May 1979 Marie SPEER - born 25 February 1920 - died 13 November 1979 - buried 16 November 1979 Eva SPEER (my grandpa's sister) married Joseph BECKER. Their children were: Anna, Mary or May, Catherine, Eva, Joseph, and John. Anna BECKER married a first cousin, August SPEER of Glendale, New York. Catherine (aunt Kate) SPEER married Peter BECKER. Their children were: Pete, Harry (Henry), Joe, Gus, Anna, Lu (Lillian), and William. William BECKER had two children: Bill and Rita. Rita BECKER married a HEILMAN. Lu (Lillian) married Victor (Vic) VOCKE. They had two children: Marian and Gloria. One of the two married a De ANGELIS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you can see, I do have quite a bit of information. I just can't find them anywhere. This information was given to me by relatives and I need to verify it all. I am lacking a lot of information from ones which makes it hard for me to get any kind of certificates on them. One cemetery was nice enough to send me a three page letter about one of my relatives with two new surnames, HOLTZMEISER and KNAPP. Both in New York. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If you know anyone that can help or is researching the same names I would appreciate anything from anyone. Again, thank you and happy holidays!! Thank you!! Happy New Year!! Kathi Speer Whittamore kwhittamore@worked.state.ar.us Ward, Arkansas

Looking for information on my great grandfather, John Thomas (JT) McCLURE (McLURE). He was born 2 February 1862 in Mayfield, Calloway County, KY. A story has it that he was "kicked out of Mayfield for being the meanest man in town". Don't know when this was but there was suppose to be an article in the Mayfield Messenger or some other paper about it. He was a Rough Rider in MO and associated with Frank and Jesse James after Frank's release from jail (prison). JT died in December 1946 in St. Louis MO. He was married to Dona P. Bunch in Mississippi County, AR. They had 14 children. If anyone has any information I would forever be in your debt!! His father was William "Bill" McCLURE (McLURE) and his mother was Bessie McCLAIN or McCAIN. I don't have anything on his parents except the names. Thank you in advance, Kathi Whittamore PO Box 75 Ward, AR 72176
