    1. [ROLL-CALL-L] Fw: COLLINS, Annis (Anna) b. 17 April 1788 Tn.
    2. LaNoy Collins
    3. This article was from a newspaper in Troy, Obion County, Tn. and was sent to me by Mr. Ben Brewer. This is being posted here because Annis (Anna) lived here at one time. She appears on the 1840 census of Stewart co, Tn. with her husband Francis Collins b. March 11, 1791 S.C. Francis Collins died in 1844. OLDEST WOMAN IN AMERICA Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee Is in her 108th year. Mrs. Anna Collins of Troy, Tennessee is probably the oldest woman in the United States. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee April 17, 1788 and is therefore in her 108th year. Her husband, Francis Collins, was born March 11, 1791 and came from South Carolina to West Tennessee. He was one of the most noted methodist evangelists that was ever in the south. It is said of him that in one of his revival meetings such enthusiasm was manifested that there were in two weeks 845 conversions and 456 accessions to the church. Five children were born to Francis and Anna Collins, two of whom are still living, the eldest being a man of three score and six years. She has used tobacco constantly for fifty-five years and is as strong today as most women at the age of 45. Does anyone know or connect Annis (Anna) Collins? Will share any information Thanks 'In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends" LaNoy Collins 10620 SW 27th Ave D-3 Ocala, Fl. 34476 golffer4@mercury.net http://www.geocities.com/rainforest/3860/ Have a nice day. 1. Re: [ROLL-CALL-L] Re: multiple posts on the ROLL-CALL
    2. Trevor & Cindi
    3. Hi all, I have to agree that individual posts for surnames is most prudent. What if you were searching the ever-too-many-of-them Watson's and I stuck them in with the Hildebrands, Gorley's, Donnelly's, Williams', Chu's, Bagby's, Steeves, Wards, Tower's,Brown's, Thomson's, Jammer's, well, you get the idea! and You couldn't see them at the end of the subject line, which is where they would be, and you deleted based on the prior names. You might miss out on a good little tidbit of info, and every tidbit helps to make a giant leap! Cindi Watson ctwatson@flash.net

    1. Re: [ROLL-CALL-L] surnames
    2. In a message dated 98-02-20 09:59:57 EST, you write: << I find it very annoying for the posting of 16 entries by the same person in my mail box at one time. One posting including all names would have been sufficent. Gaye >> I have to disagree. Repeatedly it has been requested that we enter the SURNAMES we are searching under SUBJECT. If someone has more surnames than will fit in the title line, then someone is going to miss something if their surname is not in the heading. It has been suggested that they be broken into smaller posts. I sent out 9 postings. I prefer to group my related names and connect them rather than have someone think that because I have 2 names listed they are connected when in actuality they are from different families I am researching. It is a waste of energy for someone to see (for example) Whitney and Gordon on the same list and get all excited and write a long post with all their connecting information, only for me to say - sorry but they are not connected in any way, one being my family and the other being my former husband's family. It is easier for many of us to do all of them at one time than to do each individually, when you have to go back and forth between programs to get the information sorted for posting. I also was preparing for what appeared to be a computer crash and wanted to send these that I had in my file folder before the system crashed. Jo

    2. Thanks for the question Diane; If I didn't know better I would swear I wrote that request Now I just hope the answer comes online for others of us in the same predicament. I have AOL and either the server or this moody computer suddenly and without an apparent reason it will totally wipe out my filing cabinet and my favorite places choices. In this instance it puts everything in AOL Organize which is a huge file but not decipherable to human eyes. Thanks again Diane

    1. [ROLL-CALL-L] HARRIS, SANDERS, Lafe, AK
    2. Paul Dale
    3. I have a letter dated 18 Aug 1947, Lafe, AK from a Mrs J.A.Harris (Zephel) that stated her husband will be retiring from Post Office, been there 30 years. I am trying to make a connection between her and the surnames of THOMPSON, Augusta Malinda, BROWN, John, they raised SANDERS, Merritt that married a Gladys ????, that had one daughter named Judith Ann. After the deaths of Augusta and John, my mother and father raised Merritt. He served in WWII as an XRAY technician. His hospital transport ship was attacked by German subs. From complications of his injuries he died in a Memphis army hospital in 1945. My parents were unable to attend the funeral because of the war going on and the lack of stamps to purchase fuel, etc. This Zephel Harris corresponded with my mother updating her on Merritt's condition. This is my first knowledge of any of this. I found these two letters in my mom's keepsakes. The letter notifying my mom of Merritt's death was dated 22 Oct 1945. It states, all three brothers came for the funeral, Tom, Vernon, Leroy. I assume she is talking about Merritt's brothers. Zephel two sisters, Nell and Ola. His funeral services was performed at "First Lafe Church". In the Pastor's closing comments he stated that this was his hardest funeral to preach because my son was killed in Germany this last march and was buried there where he fell. Any assistance in the above surnames would be gratefully appreciated.
