    1. [ROLL-CALL-L] FORSYTH(E)
    2. Sterling Forsythe
    3. QUERY: Need Help In Mid-South/McNairy/Hardin/Tippah/Northwest Mississippi Region/NC/Virginia/KY/etc. ! I am seeking corroborative evidence, from anytime prior to 1870 that my GGF WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTHE is related to FORSYTH(E)'s in McNairy County, TENN. There maybe other possibilities in Kentucky, northwest Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, or Missouri counties. WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTH(E) (1846-1913) appears in Lauderdale County, TENN 1870 census, where a 1907 birth record states WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTHE was from McNairy County, TENN. Am interested to know where my Forsyth(e) line is traceable to prior to 1870 Lauderdale County TN. William Stanton Forsyth, 1846-1913, (born in ???) first documented in 1870 census in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, Hales Point, on the Mississippi River. Listed occupation was "Rafting." Head of household was "Pamelia" a 52? yr old female. Have no other known information on father of William Stanton Forsyth. William Stanton Forsyth bought 640 acres (1873) at Hales Point, married, operated store, cotton gin, cut timber, reared large family there until death at mature age. A 1907 county birth record for his last child cited William Stanton Forsyth's birthplace as McNairy County, Tennessee. Much research in McNairy County, Tennessee has turned up no credible links among the Forsyth(e) families that are well documented there. Because of the 1870 census "rafting" occupation, we think he (they) may have journeyed from the northern states or from overseas to West Tennessee via Mississippi/Ohio Rivers. (Suspect the entry in the 1870 census record stating William Stanton Forsyth's birthplace as TN could be bogus info.) There is no record (census, deed, wills, county court minutes, birth/death records, military, etc., etc.) visible in the USA yet that predates this 1870 find. The full 1870 Lauderdale County TENN census for this starting point household (located at Hales Point on the Mississippi River about 55 miles north of Memphis....) was: S.?(or I or J) FORSYTHE 32 Male Boating [nothing further known] --> Note: "SANDY" FORSYTHE, 21, laborer, from 1860 census in BENJ. H. LONG household in Marshall County Mississippi PAMELIA FORSYTHE 52 Fem Housekeeping [d. 5/31/1872 north Laud. Cty, TENN] (WILLIAM) STANTON FORSYTHE 24 Male Rafting [d. 2/1913 @ Edith, Laud. Cty, TENN] --> m. HELEN H. JOHNSON 6/1873 Dyer County TENN (ISHAM?) LEROY FORSYTHE 21 Male Farming [d. 3/30/1888 north Laud. Cty, TENN] --> an ISHAM L. FORSYTHE m. NANCY E. BRASHER 9/5/1873 in Lauderdale Cty TENN SCOTT (Allen) FORSYTHE 20 Male Farm Laborer, [d. 1921 Blytheville ARK] JOHN (W.) FORSYTHE 26 Male Grocer Commission [m Pheby Jane Helm, 1/28/1869 Laud. Cty, TN] ANDREW (J.) RILEY 12 Male Farm Laborer --> Little ANDREW J. RILEY, age 2, farm hand was listed in the home of MILTON THOMPSON in the 1860 census (91-377) Lauderdale County, TN SARAH ANN FORSYTHE m. JOHN RILEY 4/5/1855 in Lauderdale County, TN SARAH ANN FORSYTHE appears to be the first FORSYTHE recorded in Lauderdale County, TN ************************************************************************* In McNairy County TENN a longtime McNairy County resident, an ISHAM FORSYTHE died in 1858 without a Will. ISHAM FORSYTHE is also found in the 1830 and 1840 censuses in McNairy County. An 1858 McNairy Court petition of Isham G. FORSYTHE's widow, CATHERINE FORSYTHE, named her and his survivors (6 of whom were under 21): JAMES FORSYTHE WILLIAM FORSYTHE {maybe Wm. Stanton FORSYTHE in 1870 Laud. Cty, TN??} MALINDA FORSYTHE, who had married a Z.(?) Chambers J.C. FORSYTHE {Jeremiah??) FRANCES FORSYTHE, who had married an Alston Moore BARTHENIA FORSYTHE JOSEPHINE FORSYTHE CAROLINE FORSYTHE, and VICTORIA FORSYTHE The McNairy County TENN 1860 index shows ISHAM G. FORSYTHE's widow, and her household: CATHERINE FORSYTHE, 52 the widow SUFFELA J(osephine) FORSYTHE, 17 {JOSEPHINE in the 1858 Petition?} BARTHELA C. FORSYTHE, 15 {She was mentioned in the 1858 Petition} VICTORY C. FORSYTHE, 8 {She was mentioned in the 1858 Petition} Where are JAMES FORSYTHE, WILLIAM FORSYTHE, J.C. FORSYTHE, and CAROLINE FORSYTHE from this household???? MALINDA FORSYTHE (Chambers) and FRANCES FORSYTHE (Moore) were elsewhere because they were married as cited in the 1858 Petition. *************************************************************** The McNairy County TENN 1850 index shows ISHAM G. FORSYTHE's household, 277-41: ISHAM G. FORSYTHE, 47 KY, TN KATHERINE FORSYTHE, 42 MARY ANN FORSYTHE, 21 JEREMIAH (C.) FORSYTHE, 16 FRANCES FORSYTHE, 12 BARTHENY FORSYTHE, 11 (SUFFELA) JOSEPHINE FORSYTHE, 9 ABIGAIL FORSYTHE, 6 CAROLINE FORSYTHE, 5 FOSTER FORSYTHE, 4 (<--->WM STANTON FORSYTHE WOULD BE 4 IN 1850!!) --> "FOSTER" FORSYTHE DISAPPEARS AFTER THIS RECORD MONROE FORSYTHE, 2 --> "MONROE" FORSYTHE DISAPPEARS AFTER THIS RECORD SUSAN MATLOCK, 30 (Why are these Matlocks in this household???) JASPER MATLOCK, 7 " " " *************************************************************** The McNairy County TENN 1850 index shows other FORSYTH(E) households in addition to the ISHAM G. FORSYTHE's household, in dwelling 279-42: JAMES FORSYTHE, 26 KY, unk (-->Son of Isham G. Forsythe per 1858 Petition) MARY FORSYTHE, 22 INDIANA (MISSOURI) FORSYTHE, 3 (mentioned in 1880 Will of James Forsythe) --> I.M. FORSYTHE married JAMES A. HUGHES 12/12/1862 (WINFIELD) SCOTT FORSYTHE, 2 (mentioned in 1880 Will of James Forsythe) (no name female) FORSYTHE, 3 mo. PHILLIP HOLLIDAY, 33 (Who is this??) and in dwelling 266-40: JAMES FORSYTHE, 42 KY, T (brother of Isham?) SARAH FORSYTHE, 35 NANCY BOATMAN, 30 (Who is this???) and in dwelling 289-43: ROBERT FORSYTHE, 45 KY, T SARAH FORSYTHE, 40 THOMAS FORSYTHE, 19 WILLIAM FORSYTHE, 17 MARION FORSYTHE, 15 SOLOMON FORSYTHE, 12 JANE FORSYTHE, 9 JOHN FORSYTHE, 7 SARAH FORSYTHE, 5 ANGELINE COBELL, 19 and in dwelling 283-42: WILLIAM FORSYTHE, 25 KY, T REBECCA FORSYTHE, 24 HENRY FORSYTHE, 5 MISALINE FORSYTHE, 3 WILLIAM FORSYTHE, 5/12 (infant) ************************************************************** Finally in McNairy County from the Administrator's Settlements Book 3: a man named GROVER FORSYTHE, was appointed administrator for BERT FORSYTHE, deceased, on March 2, 1946. WILLIAM STANTON FORSYTHE, had a son named GROVER FORSYTHE who was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County TENN, and is buried (1932) at Edith Cemetery in Lauderdale County TENN. Had this been the same GROVER FORSYTHE, and BERT FORSYTHE is connected to ISHAM G. FORSYTHE then some degree of closure was possible. But alas, if you're buried in 1932 in Lauderdale, you're not around in 1946 in McNairy. ************************************************************** There is too much potential info in these households to have been at this 12+ year long dead end. Thank you in advance for any Help! Sterling Forsythe (and etal)
