I am forwarding this message from Bill. His ISP changed his e-mail address without warning. It has some information some others might like to see. Thanks. MY NEW EMAIL ADDRESS Yes. I received three messages on the ROLL-L list from Pamela today. Looks like I am receiving mail from the ROLL-L list, as well as other lists. But some of the lists will not post mail from me. I don't post to the lists much, so I haven't noticed the problem. I think my old email address will work for incoming mail now. Only the distributed lists have a problem. Yes. It looks like our ISP redrivernet.com has changed our return email addresses without telling us customers. ~$^&* #@!~ Guess I will have to unsubscribe and subscribe again to all the lists I belong to. That's about a dozen. WEB PAGE EDITOR REVIEWS I guess I'll have to change my email address on all my web pages too. That will be a big job. I will send the internet URL for any of the following free downloads to anyone that asks. ***I write my web pages in a regular word processor, Super Note Tab, rather in one of those newfangled web editors. FREE *I tried HIPPIE web page editor again last week. To tell you the truth, HIPPIE wasn't any better that what I'm doing now. I still had to use my word processor, and couldn't edit right on the web display. It just has a large number of nice bells and whistles. Besides it crashed once, and I didn't like that. SHAREWARE (pay after you try) ***Yesterday I downloaded another iteration of Netscape Gold web browser including it's web page editor. I hadn't tried this web page editor before. Netscape's web page editor shows some promise. You can edit web pages right on the web display. I may try using this wep page editor. Netscape Gold is free to all from the Netscape site. The four stars are for users with 16 MEG of hardware memory or more. ****Four stars for the web page editor only. I have found all versions of Netscape's browser to be buggy. FREE ****I had been trying Internet Explorer 4.0. I liked this browser. It includes Front Page Express. I ~liked~ Font Page's web page editor. You can edit the pages right on the web display. But alas, I only have 8 MEG of memory, and IE 4.0 used a tremendious amount of disk activity for virtual memory. I had to delete IE 4.0. Front Page ~requires~ IE 4.0. FREE ***I also downloaded Internet Explorer 3.0. I'm keeping this. I can use it to test the appearance of my pages on another browser. And the appearance ~is~ different on different browsers. IE 3.0 doesn't have a web page editor, but seems to run faster that Netscape 3.0. So I'll be using this one to surf the net. FREE MY ISP My ISP isn't very easy to deal with. It's run as an add-on operation out of the back door of an electronics and communications business. They provide local internet connections to Blythe, California; and Ehrenberg, Quartsite, Parker, and Lake Havisu, Arizona. I was flamed by one of the co-owners a couple of weeks ago. I had been asking about a week, without any response from them, for the URL of my new redrivernet web site. They had said I could have any directory name I wanted. I had asked for "windmill" as the directory name and they gave me "wroll." Too late to change the name now. They run the ISP in fire-department mode, just like the school district. They wait for a fire to start and then run to go put it out. No problem prevention activity is evident. Their servers are down a lot. I have been considering moving to gtenet. The advantage is that GTE puts the monthly charges right on the phone bill. Nancy, thanks for your help.
