    3. Hello All, I have mixed emotions about posting the following virus warning to the ROLL list for various reasons, but I find myself doing so anyway. Please remember that all e-mail to Rootsweb that has a file attachment will not reach the different e-mail lists, they will bounce to the list managers. Some of you probably already know about the new viruses, but I imagine that there are a few who are unaware of them. Please DO NOT POST any messages about viruses and hoaxes to the list. If you do feel a need to warn others, send them to me personally and I will determine whether they should be posted to the list. The following are two messages that were posted to the listowners list at Rootsweb. "This is something that I think all Listowners should be aware of : There is a very destructive virus going around called ExploreZip.worm. It is distributed via Email and the message looks like this I received your email and I shall send you a reply ASAP. Till then, take a look at the attached zipped docs. Under no circumstances open the ZIP file. The attached file is not a Zip file, it just looks like it. It is zipped_files.exe which will destroy files with extensions .c, .cpp, .h, .asm, .doc, .xls, or .ppt For more info on this virus see http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/va10185.asp "The message I sent to all of my lists. Feel free to copy and send to your lists. Just like we did successfuly pretty much with the M*lissa one. http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/va10185.asp ExplorerZip.worm - very nasty one. (It destroys data) http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/va10184.asp Pretty.Park - nasty than the M*lissa one. Fix your computers NOW (update your v*irus protections). First named one already hit hard just now underway." Nancy Lohbrunner ROLL-L manager lohbrunner@prodigy.net
