Jan, Believe you have found more "gold" with this one. Think chances are very good that this is my great grandfather's family. He, Michael Roll, "moved west to learn Blacksmith Trade" (from Lancaster, New York to Mankato, Minnesota where my great grandfather was a blacksmith); Michael had a brother George whose wife was named Gertrude (note George had a daughter named Gertrude); Michael and George both named children Louis and Henry and Michael used Henry for the middle name of one of his other children; George's family came for Lancaster, New York where Michael's oldest children were born before coming to Minnesota. I believe the "Mr. Roll" listed at the top of the list would be Michael and George Roll's father: John Roll b. 1769-70 Erstein ? (25 kilometers southwest of Strasbourg near Bouxwiller), Strasbourg or Bouxwiller, Alsace-Louraine, France m. Marie (?) d. Mankato, Minnesota, USA bur. Calvary Cemetery, Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota, USA. Abodes: Erstein ?, Strasbourg or Bouxwiller, Alsace-Louraine, France; Lancaster, New York, USA; Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota, USA. Marie: b. France(?) d. Mankato, Minnesota, USA bur. Calvary Cemetery, Mankato, Minnesota, USA. There was a John Roll listed in the 1850 census as living with a George Roll in Lancaster, New York, USA and as being 81 years old at the time of the census. This would put his birth date around 1769. St.Peter and Pauls Catholic Church records for Calvary Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota show the following: Section 10, Block 2, Lots 5,6,7,8 "Michael Roll", "Hedwig Roll", "Mrs. Roll", "Mr. Roll". The small footstones in the Roll family plot are inscribed "Vater [Father], "Mutter" [Mother], "Grossvater" [Grandfather] and "Grossmutter" [Grandmother]. Thus it would appear that the footstones are for Michael, Hedwig, John Roll, Michael's father, and Michael's mother Marie. Do you have a source or any other contacts for this file?
