David...with reference to your e-mail of November 7th., I've searched everything I have and I don't come up with your JOHN ROLL who was born in Strasbourg or Bouxwiller in 1769-70 nor with your Michael Roll who was born 29 Sep 1829 also in either Strasbourg or Bouxwiller. My direct line of Rolls were born first in Monswiller in 1706 (now a suburb of Saverne) and from 1763 on in Dettwiller (a village about 5 or 6 miles N.E. of Saverne. Regards the town (to large for a village) of Bouxwiller, it was the District Town or Regional Town before the District, or Region, was moved to Saverne. [Bouxwiller is a lovely old Alsacian town...many, many very old houses.] Therefore, even though (this is in no way certain) Bouxwiller was mentioned as the birth place the persons could have been born in one of the many numerous villages and the records kept in Bouxwiller. I've thrown this in not to confuse your search but for something to keep in the back of your mind. Strasbourg is, of course, the capitol of Bas Rhin & of Haut Rhin. Claude Roll, the recently elected Director of the Genealogy Society of Alsace, might be able to help you with this. I visited with Claude and his family for four days in Strasbourg. He is affiliated with the Latter Day Saints (LDS). And all of my information before 1832 was collected by Claude. He is sometimes covered up with work but here is his e-mail address p22@club-internet.fr David, I'm sorry I couldn't help you more.
