Lucinda Kidd Roll (1834-1902) was the daughter of John Kidd (1813-1875) and Siche Maria Booraem (1813-1859), NOT the daughter of William Kidd the pirate who was hanged in 1701. John Kidd was listed as a "shipper" in the NJ death records. You'll find Lucinda and her husband Jonathan Smith Roll listed with John Kidd at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, NJ. (More on my web site.) Please correct your records! ---Robin In a message dated 98-01-22 18:26:08 EST, you write: << Jonathan Smith Roll was born in Westfield, Union County, N.J. > >Lucinda Kidd was the daughter of Captain William Kidd, the Pirate. > >Jonathan & Lucinda lived most of their lives in Elizabeth, Union Co., N.J. >They lived for a short time in Ovid, Seneca Co., N.Y. Jonathan Smith Roll >was a Stonemason. They are buried in the Evergreen Cemetery, Elizabeth, >Union Co., N.J. > Dear Martha, Thank you. It will take me a while to look over your pages, they may contain new information. I will get back to you about any differences. Right away I notice one problem: Captain William Kidd was a ferry boat captain out of Elizabethport, NJ, on Newark Bay, possibly on the Elizabethport-Bayonne ferry. The pirate Kidd is back in the 18th century, and no current relationship can be proven. This Kidd was hanged, mostly for political reasons, in England a little before or after the beginning of the 19th century. He had a wife in New Amsterdam, and may have had children. I understand that he was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of New Amsterdam in good standing. I have a little information about this Kidd, if you are interested. Sincerely, William Henry Roll >>
