Martha, I've already received a gedcom from Betty on the descent of WILLIAM B. ROLL She was great in all our efforts to get it to me via e-mail. Not only is it amazing that these people could move so often, but the fact that they could put all their posessions into one wagon. I've lived in the same house for 30 years, and just thinking about a move makes me cringe. On the other hand, look how fast we can communicate via the internet and e-mail. In the Census Records of 1880, Bethany twp., Osborne Co., Kansas, it is checked off that THOMAS ROLL & LAURA A. (Jemison) ROLL were married during census year (both their names checked). I have a copy of the census record. John Sears is shown on a plat map of 1875, in Penn Township, Osborne Co., Kansas with land, and the Jacob F. Jemison's were on land 3 plat squares southeast of him, so they were neighbors. I don't know if John and Matilda were married by this time, though, but if she was in MO in 1870, with three children, my guess would be they may have married in MO. There is more checking to do. Thomas's bride to be would have been ten years old in 1875, and Thomas would have been about 19. Thomas Roll d. April 1938, Victor, Ravalli, Montana [John Sears and several descendants went to Ravalli Co., MT). Data from a Jemison descendant, says Thomas and Laura m. 1 May 1880, Osborne Co., KS. Laura A. (Jemison) Roll also died in Victor, Ravalli, MT, but I don't have a date. The children of Thomas and Laura were: 1. MATILDA ROLL; d. 1967; m. 11 Jun 1899, William Eddy. 2. EVELINE ROLL, b. 14 March 1889; d. 1966. She m. Lou Parker and William Elmore. 3. PEARL ROLL; d. 1976; m. Perry Baird. 4. LYDIA ROLL; d. 1976; m. Ralph McVey. 5. IRENE ROLL; d. 27 Mar. 1974; m. Jack Woods. (don't know if order of children is right.) I didn't know about their going back to KY before moving on. Is it Christina that was born in KY? The census records indicate that she was born in MO in 1854. Do you know where they might have been in MO? As for Hardin Co., William B. Roll's parents, John and Susannah (Swank) Roll were married there 25 Dec. 1800. I got that information from Betty, and I don't have data on any of the Swank's. But, John Sears' first wife, Hattie/or Hetty Ann Radley, was born in Hardin Co., KY also [they married 19 Feb. 1837, Coles Co., IL]. I am still looking for the parents of my John Sears, and just where he was born in KY (on census records he claims both his parents were born in KY). There were several Sears families in the 1820 and 1830 census records of Harrison Co., IN, as well. John Sears' first wife, Hattie/Hetty Ann Radley, was daughter of Barnaby Shute Radley, (mother's name not known), and Barnaby was son of Ichabod B. Radley/wife Hannah Bush. Ichabod was born in New Jersey from a Radley line that was in Essex and Morris Counties, beginning in the 1600's. Ichabod took six sons, and daughters with husbands up to southwest Coles Co., IL about 1827/8. One son remained in Hardin Co., KY. One daughter married a Sawyer, who descends from the New Jersey Tremble/Trembly family line (they married in KY and went to Coles Co., IL.) It's a possibility that my Sears could have come from the NJ lines of Sayre/Sayers/Sears. That would tie these people together somewhat. Because of the dangers of traveling some roads, many of them traveled in groups. There are Baker's who tie in with the Roll's and the Radley lines also. John Sears' property in Kansas was next to a Walter Baker, and a Benjamin Baker. Jacob Getz was also next to him, and Henry W. Landis, John Graff, Moses E. Feltt, and Jacob Schweitzer. The Jemison's came from a PA line. Looks like we both ramble on. Donna Sears Chernick
