Jan, Thank you for the detailed information on Matthias ROLL & Mary RUTAN. Here is some information from my reseach on Silas, if you are interested. Audrey Silas was named in his father's will which was probated Oct 1831. (Source: Butler Co., OH Old Will Record Bk. 2, 1833-1843, p. 519) Silas was a physician. In the estate packet of John A. HANCOCK of Reily Twp., Butler Co., OH was found, "Silas ROLL for medical attendance during last illness. $3.00 on 11 May 1850." John A. HANCOCK is an ancestral gf/o David E. HANCOCK, Sr., husband of Audrey (SHIELDS) HANCOCK. Audrey is descendant of Ross DUNHAM & Sarah ROLL. On 2 Dec 1854, Silas ROLL received "For visits & medical advice $2.50" from the estate of Jonas JONES, husband of Nancy Ann (HANCOCK) JONES, who was sister of the above John A. HANCOCK. John A. HANCOCK & Nancy Ann (HANCOCK) JONES were children of (Capt.) John HANCOCK & Nancy Ann (GRAVES) HANCOCK. (Source: 1997, Records of Butler Co., OH as seen by Dave & Audrey HANCOCK) Silas ROLL was postmaster 19 Nov 1856 at what was Stillwell (became McGonigle's Station in 1859), Hanover Twp., Butler Co., OH. (Source: "A History & Biographical Cyclopaedia of Butler Co., OH with Illustrations & Sketches of Its Representative Men & Pioneers," Western Biographical Publishing Co., Cincinnati, OH, 1882, p. 446) "Among the distinguished residents of this station (McGonigle's) have been Dr. Silas ROLL, who was here forty years ago. Dr. HANCOCK, who studied with him, was also a practitioner in this vicinity. Dr. James ROLL, a nephew of Dr. Silas ROLL, is the present practicing physician." Note: Dr. HANCOCK was probably Dr. Alfred HANCOCK, s/o Joel & Sarah (LINTNER) HANCOCK, who was brother of John A. HANCOCK, mentioned above. (Source: "A History & Biographical Cyclopaedia of Butler Co., OH with Illustrations & Sketches of Its Representative Men & Pioneers," Western Biographical Publishing Co., Cincinnati, OH, 1882,, p. 443) Joel HANCOCK married #1 Sarah LINTNER & they had another son named Christopher Lintner HANCOCK. One Christopher LINTNER m Anna ROLL, dau/o Matthias & Mary (RUTAN) ROLL. Perhaps Sarah then is a dau/o or sister of this Christopher LINTNER. ******************** Jan, You have Joseph ROLL m Rebecca JOHNSTON (MILLER). Can you explain the JOHNSTON surname, as I have her listed as Rebecca MILLER? You also have Hanna DECAMP/HAWKINS. Can you explain the HAWKINS surname, as I have her listed as Hannah DECAMP? I note that you have Matthias ROLL Jr.'s wife listed as Jane Stewart WILLIAMS. In other records, she is merely listed as Jane STEWART. Can you clarify? Also, I have Samuel F. ROLL as being father of Sylvender ROLL. I think we have talked about this before. My husband's ancestral gf was Sylvender HANCOCK, s/o Thomas HANCOCK & gs/o John A. HANCOCK. Do you have any idea where the name Sylvender came from? I have found it only in the area of Butler & Warren Cos., OH. Must have been popular there. Also, do you have additional information on Sylvender ROLL? Appreciate any enlightenments.
