Hi I am Frank eldest son of Francis Sherman. In reply to yours Dad served with the US Army Medical Corps and was wounded in the eye during his service in China???? and was on his way home for discharge via Australia when he decided that this was it so he settled here around 1924. Mum was born in Kilsyth Scotland on 4 October 1905 and emigrated to Australia in 1925.she was a milliner. Dad was a salesman, mostly real estate, but would try anything. During the Depression he took up goldmining but was not very successful. This was around Bathurst,Mudgee Hill End.NSW. We settled in Windeyer NSW and he built and operated a bakery until 1938 when he recieved some deferred pay from the Veterans Affairs. he then decided to come to sydney and opened a series of grocery stores in and around Sydney Suburbs. In comparing the data that Jan sent out today with what I have, I have the following differences. Most of my data came from Barbara in 1997. 1. Or rather that is what he did when he got there. I had always wondered about the other ROLLS that lived in Zanesville at the time. Now I know that they were a French line. Hi Barb, Good to see you on the list again. I really don't know why your ancestors moved where they did, but usually it had something to do with land. My Roll/Rall's went from Clark County Ohio to Allen County Indiana then to Reno County Kansas and that was for cheap or free land. I have no knowledge of any Dutch Rolls in Muskingum County. By 1860 the railroad was all over Ohio making travel much easier. Also the "Cumberland Road" went through Zanesville to Columbus to Springfield. This road originated in Baltimore. Now it would be interesting to find out in what Port city the French Rolls arrived. Tom, if you read this message, could you tell us where your ancestor's arrived? Also, do you live close to Zanesville? If so have you run across any unrelated Rolls in your research of Muskingum County? Based on the name and birth date of their last child, Maria Rosa, and the date of Michael's second marriage, his first wife, Maria Rosa may have died in connection with the birth of their daughter, Maria Rosa on 5 Apr 1863.
