    1. ROLL - Bill's email server is down
    2. Dear Members of the Roll List, My email server at redrivernet.com has been down since 8 pm Friday night. I can not receive or send email in the regular way. I think the redrivernet server is still receiving mail; I just can't get to it. I don't know how long this will last. GTE is opening a local ISP. I may be switching to them. There is a new document, a poem, "Peter Stuyvesant's New Year Call" on my web page. Although written in 1860, it is of interest to historians. http://members.aol.com/whroll Sincerely William Henry Roll [email protected]

    3. Sorry for your email problems, I had something similar recently and 'lost' out on some incoming, plus all my saved files. Computers are grand when they work properly... but can be a real ~pain~ when they don't! I never received any of the mentioned pages, either, so doubt if anyone else did. Apparently, your email problems prevented them from making it through the pipe-line. Martha: I did receive one from you to Bill's attn re: the information you found on WINDMILL concerning Steven Buckley (Stephen Berkley) Roll, but that was all. Holiday Greetings to all, and like Audrey, I will be cooking, etc. for expected family. May you all have as much to be thankful for as we. Betty (Roll) Holt

    3. Hello, Martha, & All, Martha, I didn't get these, nor the explanation. We had computer problems this past week for the whole week and somehow got put on Microsoft Mail & News from AT & T Mail & News, so I had lost all my e-mail, all my folders, all my saved messages, all my everything. I had everything ready to send to you on the MILLS family & lost it, too. The problem was solved yesterday, so now I am back in business. However, anything that went through on Microsoft Mail & News is lost, because now we are back where we should be. Nancy, I will also forward the information that I am sending Martha about the MILLS family to you. I may have already sent this information to you years ago, but you'll be up to date, too. Martha, I will also send my lineage at that time. I come from the Jacob ROLL/Elizabeth MILLS to Sarah "Sally" ROLL/Ross DUNHAM lines. I also didn't get the photo of Moses that was talked about by Nancy. Ed, I would appreciate receiving it, if possible. Having company this weekend, so will try to get all of this sent out before they arrive today or at least on Monday. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Enjoy your time with those near & dear to you. I will be cooking up a "storm" with all the trimmings. Audrey ---------- From: Martha Roll <[email protected]@iswt.com> To: Roll <[email protected]> Subject: P. 68, 104, 182. Date: Saturday, November 22, 1997 1:15 AM Did anyone get these pages? I'm having a problem with this Internet Explorer 4.0 and lost all my mail messages. I thought I had it fixed and sent a letter to the group and did get a copy back. I sent these 3 pages from my research and it did not come back. I sent another letter explaining the research behind these pages and a copy did come back. I received a post from Nancy tonight about a picture of Moses which I didn't get either. Have I missed something while all this was going on? I'll take this 4.0 out of my computer and go back to the Navigator. I've had trouble with this since I installed it. Someone let me know if you received the pages. Thanks, Martha

    3. Hi Bill, When I checked out the WINDMILL, I ran across this Steven Buckley Roll. I knew that I had to send you these pages. I made the same mistake and sent Mrs. Fannye Margaret (Roll) Holloway a genealogy with the spelling from Isaac Clifford Roll's Records. She sent a letter that was very short with me to let me know that the correct spelling was Stephen Berkley Roll. She wrote that she had seen the spelling the way I had it but it was not right and to please change it. Believe me, I quickly sent her a new page with the correct spelling. She was so glad to get the genealogy back to Jan Mangelese, she wrote to me for years but I haven't heard from her for a few years. The last letter, I remember, she had fallen and broken her hip and had to use a cane to get around. She still lived alone and took care of herself. Looking at her birthdate, I wonder how she's doing. I hope she is still very healthy. Please change this in your records. I have no other reference except the very stern letter, but it could be found in Dallas Co., Mo. with the correct spelling. 3. I have been checking out some of your information on WINDMILL. This is about Adelia Francis Roll b. 11/10/1824 and d. 10/18/1899 age 74. She married, you have, George W. Felch. I have Chancellor (?) Felch. Adelia Francis Roll was the 6th child of James & 2nd wife, Julia Denman Shipman Roll. On her page, I have her husband listed as Felch, with (Chancellor or George) beneath it. I have: Ref: ROLL BIBLE in possession of Mr. George Felch, Florhan Park, N.J. D.A.R. Records contributed by R.B. Hedges, Madison, N.J. This Bible Record also listed Jonathan Hedges who died 04/291814 age 57 years. Mary Hedges, wife of Jonathan Hedges, who died 03/20/1837 age 69 years. Charles Hedges, son of Jonathan & Mary Hedges died October 1821 age 21 years. Was this Jonathan & Mary Hedges, the parents of Charity O. Hedges, 3rd wife of James Roll? The Bible Record also listed George R. Welch, died 11/17/1860 age 71 years. George W. Welch, died 10/07/1899 age 77 years. Chancellor Felch, died 09/05/1896 age 76 or 16 years. (my typing) Was this more of my typos or was this the beginning of a name change from Welch to Felch? I have all her children listed as Felch. Martha

If I have R.H.R. Records, It means Roland Henry John Roll Research. Sorry this was my mistake. I knew that was going to cause confusion and I did intend to fix it. Another mistake. Martha

    3. Hi Ed, Thanks for the cemetery records. If you checked P. 9 that I sent this morning, your records added the Dew to Elizabeth Wyatt's name and her birth and death date. It also added the birth and death date to Lucinda Herman, wife of Jacob Roll. It also gave me the death date of Polly or Mary in the cemetery records, wife of Aaron Roll. Although, checking the P. 9 that I sent, I failed to put it in the records. I also noticed when it came back that a line at the top of the page was also missing. JACOB ROLL, 2nd child of ABRAHAM & MARY (Brooks) ROLL. Sorry for the mistakes. You can all see that this page needs updating. If I have a page # to the left of the child's name, I have more information on that line of the family. If I have no page #, I have nothing further. That is why I don't know how Nancy and Audrey fit into this line of the family. I checked the Index and couldn't find a Margaret Ann Burns either Ed, so I guess I don't have yours. I have several Burns but not this one. I'm not sure where this John L. & Eliza J. Roll fit in. I'll have to check the records as to dates. Abraham Brooks Roll is in my pages. He was the 8th child of Abraham & Mary (Brooks) Roll. He married Elizabeth Dunham Lambert. Married: June 1804. I have more on this line of the family. I enjoy your rambling, and I'm glad you noticed the tree and all it did to the monument. I've strolled through more cemeteries than I ever dreamed I would be in. I always thought a piece of chalk would bring out the inscriptions but a friend went with Lynn and me to a cemetery and no one had a piece of chalk. The friend looked around for a few seconds and picked up a tiny stone. He rubbed it over the dates and they came out just perfect. I don't know if it was a certain type of stone. You have all been so helpful to me, I'll tell you about "The Tree" and I hope before we get the Archives. Before Charles and I were married, we went to Roll, Indiana to a square dance. I don't square dance but I love to watch it. We got to the edge of town and I noticed the sign. I said, "Roll, Indiana, is that some of your family?" He said, "Yes, my G.Grandfather settled the town. He lived to be 102 and was hanged for rape." Nothing more was said about it because I thought oh, how embarrassing. Years later, after the research connected Lynn's family, she came by and I told her the story. I had never told him that I knew for awhile that he was joking but I did tell Lynn that while we drove through the town, I looked around and thought, "I wonder which tree". She is a very prim and proper lady and very straight laced. I was surprised when she laughed. Several weeks later, I got an envelope from Lynn and inside was a picture taken in the Church and Cemetery yard of Roll, Indiana. It was the Ideal tree. I framed it and it still is in my living room and draws many questions as to why I have a picture of a tree in my living room. It turned out that he was related to Matthias Roll. He was a 2nd cousin, 5 times removed. You all have the story that I rarely tell, so you all know how naive I once was. Thanks again Ed. Betty, this P. 9 is part of the records that I plan to send to you when I can ever get organized and get a copy of them from the old computer. Best to you, Martha

    3. Martha Sorry for the delay getting back - we had an exciting break-through on my wife's line. Since we have been having so much trouble on her side we've been spending all our spare time wading through pension papers and logging the information gleaned. But enough gloating....... In looking at my cemetery photos I realize I took no pictures of Roll headstones - as I indicated, in my family we weren't aware of the Roll / Rall connection. At any rate the headstones I have: - Magaret A. Burns 1832 - 1922 (nee Margaret Ann Rall - my Rall connection) - Lucinda Wife of J. Rall Died Dec12 1879 Aged 71Y 6M 1D (age is difficult to read, I may have it wrong) - Moses Rall died Apr. 10, 1868 aged 70Ys. 4M0. & 9Ds - Elizabeth Wife of M. Rall died Apr.26, 1849 aged 46 Ys. 10 Mo. & 23Ds. (nee Elizabeth Dew Wyatt) - Aaron Rall died Mar.21, 1835 Aged 52 Ys 11 Mo - Mary Wife of Aaron Rall died Dec. 6, 1850 aged (can't decipher) - Rall (family plot stone) John L. Rall 1836 - 1918 "FATHER" Eliza J. Rall 1839 - 1914 "MOTHER" (other family members in this plot, but I ran out of film) - Abraham B.(?) Rall died Apr. 20 1864 & Wife Elizabeth (This monument was one of the more impressive in the cemetery and one of the tallest oblesks I've ever seen as a private monument, unfortunately, someone in the long ago planted a tree very near the monument and its growth is beginning to make the stone lean, the shade has also allowed the lichen growth to obscure some of the inscription. Hope you find my rambling as interesting as I find yours. Ed

    3. Hi Bill, You asked a while ago if I could remember what I was on when I found the books by Marguerite S. (?) Roll. I believe that was http://Altavista.digital.com/ That is usually the one I do research on since I found it. It was about the time that I found it so it might have been another one. Of course, I was checking Roll records also. I'm sure of what I entered. It was of 3 choices. Genealogy "Roll" or Family "Roll" or History "Roll". Maybe someone can find it again. I should have copied the address just in case someone wanted the information. But, if I had, I probably wouldn't remember where I put it. Have a good day. Martha
