Hello, From someone & I don't have a reference, it was said that Aaron also had sons Jacob & Daniel and of course, Philemon had sons Daniel & Jonathan. Sorry, I goofed. I did not leave out any children in Jacob Roll's line, just numbered incorrectly. Nancy
The following is why I question whether there was a son named Daniel of Jacob ROLL and Elizabeth MILLS. "Clark County, Ohio Newspaper Abstracts, 1837. Vol IV" Clark county Genealogical Society, 1991, compiled by Anne Snodgrass, 1977-1978. "Springfield Ohio Pioneer & Clark County Advertiser" p 9. "Petition for partition. James Lattourette & wife, Ross Dunham & wife vs. Jacob Rolle, Daniel Rolle etc., heirs of Jacob Rolle Sr., dec'd. Jacob Rolle of the state of Illinois, Daniel Rolle of the state of New York, children of Aaron Rolle dec'd., non residents of Ohio and other residents of Ohio, heirs at law & legal representatives of Jacob Rolle Sen., late of Clark County Ohio are notified March 23, 1837 that James Lattourette and Mary his wife, late Rolle, Ross Dunham and Sarah his wife, late Rolle filed against defendants to demand partition of NW 7 NE Q Sec 26 T R 9 between the Miami's. Mason & Torbert." April 7, 1837." Am I reading this incorrectly? Does anyone have an opinion? Help! Nancy

I think the Kansas census microfilms are restricted at the LDS, I was correct yesterday, you can borrow them through inter library loan from the Kansas Historical Society. I have not checked out their web site yet, the URL is http://history.cc.ukans.edu/heritage/kshs/resource/findpeop.htm By the looks of the URL, you might be able to do a search at this site. Most likely the regular site is same as above but probably through heritage/. Hope it works, sorry I didn't have time to try it before sending it to you. Good luck. Hi, Thanks for sharing this information. Will need to probably go to Cincinnati some time for research. Been there a few times to work on other lines. Live in MI. Didn't realize until I got Martha's message that Jacob ROLL was in Cincinnati. Thanks again. -- [ From: Nancy Lohbrunner * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Hi Ron and Dot: It will take me a couple more days to get in touch with the other researcher, meanwhile you might want to join the KS-KIN mailing list. I belong to it and I know others have asked about census reports. You can join and inquire about the census, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you what to do. Seems to me (I'm guessing) that census microfilm can be had through inter-library loan from the Kansas Historical Society. The KS-KIN list may be an open list and you might be able to post a query without subscribing if you do not want to join. Send a query to KS-KIN- [email protected] make sure you write to reply to you and not the list. To subscribe to the list send e-mail to [email protected] in the body of the message put subscribe KS-KIN-L first name last name nothing else as it is read by a computer. The first and last names will be your own name. The Kansas Historical Society does have a web site, but I do not know what it is. You might try to find it through one of the search engine. They might even have the census microfilm numbers posted. My grgr-grandparents, Issac Brooks RALL (was Roll) and wife Mary Jane LaTourette went from Ohio to Indiana to Kansas where they homesteaded and eventually died there. That's thrown the schedule off, we're going to have to delay the start of the full archive implementation. There's not a lot of work left to do, but it may be as much as two weeks before we turn the full implementation on because of the interplay of consulting assignments (Karen and I have to eat ... ), the December RSL (which comes out next weekend), and other things. That two week delay is a worst-case estimate, though -- I think we'll have most or all of the archives software online much sooner than that. Audrey, If you don't find the source for the Cincinnati chairmaker, you should check if there are extant city directories for the area. These pre-phone books are fascinating because they often list head of household, street address, sometimes work address, and occupation. I've been very successful using these books. In Fall River, MA, I found my family moving all over the city, and even found a business ad for the father! I found another family in Utica, and at first I couldn't understand why the listing was under Mrs. from 1849-1853. Guess why? The husband went to the California Gold Rush! He did come back for his family! I even discovered a family in Michigan and figured out when one guy moved out of his parents' house, when he married, divorced, and married again. It's an interesting way to track a family, without waiting 10 years for the census taker to drop by. Good luck! ---Robin
Bill, Where did you buy Littel's Passaic Valley book? And how much was it? Thanks! ---Robin
Bill, Thanks for thinking of me and my Marsh line! It looks like you found a sister, Julia Anne, for me. At first I was confused by this, but now I'm excited! You see, the year that Julia Anne Marsh married Robert Cauldwell 1841, was the same year Eliakim Marsh had a daughter named Julia Ann Marsh (b. 1841). On Eliakim's death certificate it does say his father was Gideon. And in the census index, there is a Gideon Marsh that I've considered, and he was in Westfield at one point. This is falling into place nicely. Yes, I'd love to have those pages photocopied. :) Maybe I can find Julia Anne's line somewhere else! I have used Littel's book before and it is very good, but also has mistakes large and small. My cousins' Townley line is in there, and Littel has Matthias Townley christened in 1751 yet his supposed father was born 1760. Odd, that. I have the feeling that our family lines will bump again because I keep reading the same names over and over again in the greater Elizabeth, NJ, area. Robin Chalmers

I know Littell is not accurate sometimes, but he's valuable as a starting point. There is no index. Rats! I got mine from... Willow Bend Books 39475 Tollhouse Road Lovettsville, VA 20180-1817 http://www.mediasoft.net/ScottC $41.00 price 4.00 shipping and handling ------ $45.00 Total It is a 1997 printing; costs are high for printing and binding nowdays. Its not sewn, typical paperback. I hope the glue lasts. Several other recently printed genealogy books I've purchased had sewn bindings, and the prices seemed about the same as the Littell book. The book arrived in four days. They said I didn't have to pay for it until it arrived. Nice people. Quite a few good books for New Jersey and New York are there. Probably from many other states too. I couldn't find a phone number. They probably don't believe in phones! Thanks, Martha, for this information. I'll add it to my information & see if I come up with anything different, but looks like you had more than I did. By the way, for all of you interested, some of the information about this family & his having a grist mill & selling out to go to OH can be found in John LITTELL's, Genealogies of the First Settlers of Passiac Valley (NJ) & Vicinity, 1852. My message with Attn: Kathy on 11/25 gave the account for Roll, Indiana to have it's name changed from Dundee to Roll. It is in Blackford Co., Indiana, just East of Marion, Indiana on S.R. 18. I sent, tonight, P. 9 from my records, on Jacob & 1st wife, Elizabeth Mills and 2nd wife, Nancy Picket (Pecket) Roll. This is my entire page with birth and death dates for all that I have on the family. If I have a page # to the left of the child's name, I have more information on that family. I have a copy of Jacob Roll's WILL and it is on the little disk and I can send a copy of that to anyone who wants it. The move to Ohio had to be after the marriage to Nancy since I have it they were married at New Providence, N.J. Nancy, I don't have Daniel as their son but that doesn't mean he wasn't. My records are not complete and if you notice, I don't have middle names for any of these children. I have spent the entire evening at a friend's house who has a scanner. We finally, figured out how to get the WILL onto a little disk but did not figure out how to send it through E-Mail. I can get it from the disk and send it through E-Mail now but just couldn't get it to go direct from the scanner to the mail. They couldn't find the book on the scanner. If someone doesn't have this WILL and would like it, I can send it. In the Will, it does not mention Aaron but that could be a dispute in the family. It doesn't list the last 4 children either. It mentions his wife, not by name, as a cripple. Anyway, you can see for yourself. Since several people are descended from this line, you can help bring it more up to date. This page is not nearly as complete as many other pages in the notebook. Most pages, have a continued page # for every child or almost every child. I hope all this helps. Martha
Thanks for your response, Nancy. No, we've not heard from anyone except you - we have no idea where to look for more info, as Kansas census reports are not available locally and didn't know where to secure them. Also, felt it not necessary to repeat someone's else work, except to secure documentation. Any leads or clues will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks again, Ron and Dot

You can download it over the internet, or I can send it to you. WinZip takes a binary file, like a scanned image, and shrinks and translates in into text so it can be sent as an email attachment. The recipient will need WinZip to un-shrink and translate the file back into its original binary form. The WinZip program I will send you, if you want it, is also zipped. But it is a special kind of zip file. It's an executable. You put it in the directory where you want the WinZip program to go, and run it from Windows Explorer. It extracts itself from text to binary form. If you would rather download it yourself from the internet using Netscape or other browser, here's the address that will take you to the correct download page I got from Alta Vista... DOWNLOAD.COM -- WinZip (32-bit) download.com -- the way to download software on the Internet. Searchable up-to-date software database of selected software files from CNET. http://www.download.com/PC/Result/TitleDetail/0,4,187-18840-g,501000.html size 13K - 21-Aug-97 You should download it to your "c:\temp\" folder first, then move it to the folder you want. Usually that's "c:\winzip\" -Bill _________________________________________________________________ William Henry Roll Blythe, California [email protected] The Roll Family Genealogy Windmill http://members.aol.com/whroll The genealogy of the ROLL, MANGEL and VAN WOGGELUM families "A thousand candles have burned themselves out; yet I read on."
