    3. Hello, Robin, Your web page looks great. Thanks for sharing. Don't know anything about homepages, but I'm about to learn. Just signed up for ATT free homepage, but I know it will take me a year to learn about this stuff. I'm still learning about the Internet, etc. At any rate, I like your site. By the way, any idea where your STEINMETZ family came from? I have a STEINMETZ related family in one of my lines. That family is from Alsace. Happiness to you always, Audrey ---------- > From: RLCww <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Subject: Roll - new web pages > Date: Thursday, December 04, 1997 10:07 PM > > I just redesigned my web pages and added more Roll names. I had thought of using the same bordered background you chose, until I found the Dutch tile. It's not according to Hoyle, but you can use this code to indent the left margin... <BODY> <UL> and </UL> </BODY> The unordered list tags should be just inside the body tags. If you're using an HTML validator, it will ~not~ like this cheat, and show a large number of HTML errors. But everything will really be ok. Just remove the unordered list tags before you run the validator. Then put them back. I also use tables to force indentation. You can save a web page from the net, and view the HTML in a word processor. That's how I'm learning HTML. I use an ordinary word processor to write my pages. AOL's browser has a nasty habit of showing all fonts one size larger than standard. To catch this, download Netscape Navigator from one of the thousands of sites offering it. Then after you connect to AOL, load Netscape and use it for the browser. It will piggyback and run through your AOL connection. You will see a more accurate view of your web pages that way. You may have some Roll stuff I'm still missing. I will study your data. I don't have a clue about most of my Dickens line. I think they came from Haddon Hall, Darbyshire, England. -Bill _________________________________________________________________ William Henry Roll Blythe, California [email protected] The Roll Family Genealogy Windmill http://members.aol.com/whroll The genealogy of the ROLL, MANGEL and VAN WOGGELUM families "A thousand candles have burned themselves out; yet I read on."

    1. Aaron Roll
    2. Martha Roll
    3. Aaron Roll was not mentioned in his father's WILL. Since the dates I have shows that he died about 6 months after Jacob Roll, there must have been a conflict somehow. Nancy, I can't imagine why these girls would have sued the children of Aaron Roll since he wasn't mentioned in the WILL. Each of these girls were to receive 10 dollars in cash to be paid by Jacob Roll's executors within a year from the time of his death. It states, "the sum of ten dollars in cash to be paid her by my Executors within twelve months after my decease. These last two legacies to be considered in full for their share & interest in my estate they having heretofore received their portions at their marriage respectively". It could be also that Aaron had already claimed his and so was not mentioned in the WILL. The Executors of Jacob Roll's Estate were named Jacob & Joseph. All they could sue for was the $10.00 if they hadn't received it. It does mention his minor children to be taken care of until they become of age, which must mean the last 4. The WILL is dated August 26, 1824 and Probated October 2, 1834. I tried to send a copy of this WILL last weekend but failed. I will try it again this weekend. I have done it before, I just can't remember how. If I ever do anything right, you can believe, I did it by accident. The first record, other than this one you sent Nancy, of a Daniel Roll Is Daniel M. Rall married Sarah F. McGilton 1853, Clark Co., Ohio. I have a marriage record for Lydia Roll to Jacob Timbrell in 1813, Butler Co., Ohio. Is this the Lydia, 3rd wife of John Roll who married (1) Rachel Van Winkle (2) Edith Wick (3) Lydia. Thanks Ed for the Cemetery Records. Your name is on the list to send a copy of Jacob Roll's Will. Martha

    3. Nancy, Possibly Rita sent me those names of the two sons for Aaron year ago. I'll have to go through my "stuff" to see what I may have somewhere...if I can unearth it. I had no daughters listed for Aaron...just the two sons. At this time I can't say who my resource was for those names. I wasn't too great on my record keeping back when I started. Shall try to hunt a little as I have time. It's busy during the holidays for me. Twenty will be here for Christmas & the day after and off & on throughout the following week. Sorry, folks, on the list. Hope this isn't all too boring as Nancy & I discuss our line, but it is important to get these families together correctly. 3. Nancy, from the information you sent on the Philemon line you show that both Daniel & Jonathan died in their 20's. Would both of these sons been dead by the time of this suit? 3. I do have copies of land given to one of the Roll/Rall's by the President, can't tell you off hand, will have to look for it. May take a few days, right now am into shopping, shopping, shopping and wrapping. Seems to me Abraham Brooks Roll was the first one who went west and then returned to NJ and married, he probably told all his relatives how wonderful Ohio was. New Jersey was most likely getting crowded and land prices were probably going up. I'll look ASAP for the land record. Nancy [email protected]

    1. ROLL Volkie or Tryntje?
    2. MRS NANCY N LOHBRUNNER
    3. Volkie Janse or Tryntje Pieters, wife of Jan Mangelse In most of the documentation for Jan Mangelse, his wife is not mentioned by name. Edwin D. Roll, in his "The Roll Family, One Branch", Oct 1982 has, "1698/9. Jan and Tryntje Mangelse sold a parcel of their land at Canastogione to their son Pieter for L50. A copy of the deed of sale is on file; also a description of the property involved." I could not find a copy of the deed till recently. I knew some researchers had Volkie Janse as Jan's wife, but with the Dutch naming system Volkie would have been the daughter of Jan, not Pieter. I added Pieters/Pieterse onto Tryntje's name, as she was the daughter of Pieter. Just because her brothers used Van Woggelum and several other aliases, we cannot assume she was also known by them, but we do know Jan Mangelse married the daughter of Pieter Adriaensen Van Woggelum. I still think an earlier researcher misread the contract of sale between Claes Jansen van Bockhoven and Jan Mangelse of land at Niskayuna in which it is written, "seller or his wife named Volckie Ja s". The problem with this is that Jan was the buyer, Claes was the seller. I have already sent a copy of this out to the group, if there are any new subscribers and would like a copy, let me know. Anyway, below is a copy of a copy of the sale of land between Jan Mangelse, his wife, Tryntje and their son, Pieter. Please let me know what you think. New York Geno. And Biog. Records, Vol. XXXVI. 3. Nancy, I read this as Jacob & Daniel are sons of Aaron ROLL, but heirs of Jacob ROLL (Sr.). Jacob & Daniel inherited in their father's place. I don't know if I am right either, but that is how I interpreted it. Maybe we need to look at courthouse records sometime. 3. Thanks for the addition to what I have on Jacob Roll. I will check it out but I haven't been off early this week yet. Probably this weekend. I noticed a DANIEL in the marriage records, I think, I just didn't know where he fit. I'll do more in a couple of days. Why Ohio, Ed. I think it was the westward movement. Ohio was a well settled state in the early 1800's and probably it had something to do with the land grants. I have no proof, but just my thoughts. Some moved further west but Ohio was a safe place for people to raise their families. Sorry for the quick note. I'll get this Will off to you this weekend. Martha
