Hi Kathy: Thanks for sending the names of the parents for Elizabeth Sickles. I am trying to find proof for the surname of Elizabeth, wife of John Roll. Do you have Elizabeth Sickles as his wife? Do you know where I could find his marriage record? In my search, I have found a baptism record in the "COLLECTIONS OF THE NEW YORK GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY", Vol IV, Staten Island Church Records, NY, Printed for the Society, 1909, p 41. "1731 Oct 10. Parents: Johannes De Groot, Elisabet SIKKELS. Child: Robbert (sic). Witnesses: Zacharias Sikkels, Ariaantje." There are other entries in which Johannes De Groot and Elisabet Sikkels were wittneses for baptisms including one as late as 1738-9 (page 49). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello Martha: Could you please send me the names of the parents of Elizabeth Sickles once again. I know I have it somewhere, but right now I can't find the paper. If your's is buried also, that's ok, I will run across the paper eventually. Thanks. ____ Nancy Lohbrunner [email protected]
Hello, Well I'm not Nancy But I do have my files handy . Elizabeth Sickles daughter of Robert Sickles & Geertruy Rednars. Kathy [email protected]
For your information. There is NO charge, fee, etc for any Genealogical e-mail list through ROOTSWEB. If an e-mail list sponsor asks for money, something is wrong. Rootsweb is a cooperative and if you want to support it, you can find info about it at www.rootsweb.com. When MAISER crashed last spring, several hundred lists moved to Rootsweb, these sponsors were not asked for money. Most now do support Rootsweb with money. Anyone can sponsor a list (two in fact) for $24.00 a year, this helps Rootsweb to update their machinery, but I don't think Brian and Karen (owners of Rootsweb) have turned away any list for genealogy due to a lack of funds. There have been some rumors about list sponsors asking for money and they should not. Hope everyone has a happy new year. I received a scanner for Christmas and as soon as I hook it up and figure it out will send out some data. ____ Nancy Lohbrunner [email protected]
I would like to welcome the new subscribers to the ROLL list and invite you to post any of your ROLL/RALL/ETC problem areas and quite possibly one of our 'older' subscribers might be able to help. Since several of us have been corresponding for a few months, we have not posted any queries for some time, maybe it is time to repost our problems. My 'greatest' problem is finding proof of the surname of the Elizabeth who married John ROLL, possibly married in 1732. Their children were: John, Isaac, Mary, Abraham, Catherine and Jane (Jean). Can someone help me? ____ Nancy Lohbrunner [email protected]
Just to let you know that Carolyn (ROLL) BRANDON recently lost her husband Dale. Carolyn is related to me via my SHIELDS line and possibly the ROLL line if we can make a ROLL connection for her. If you wish to send her your condolences, she is at [email protected] Audrey Shields Hancock & descendant of Jacob ROLL & Elizabeth MILLS

Hi Bill: I think that is all of the ROLL messages lately. All the lists are extremely slow, things will probably pick up after the holidays. Happy Holidays everyone! ____ Nancy Lohbrunner [email protected]
Dear members of ROLL-L, The following three messages are the only ones I have received since the 12th of December from the ROLL-L mailing list. Am I missing any messages? I tried the Rootsweb archives, but I can't make any sense of the order in which the messages are stored there. I recently acquired Littell's "Family Records..." I'm trying to link the Vails, Shotwells, Shipmans, Smiths, Kirkpatricks, Gastons, Rolls, and many others. Putting the data into a genealogy database can make some inferences easier. But I'm getting eye strain from the task of looking on every page for the names. Does anyone have a copy of a Littell index? Hi: I am just testing to see if Rootsweb has put ROLL in the subject line yet. Also about the reply feature, the way I understand it, when you reply to a message, it will reply to the list. If you reply to a reply, it will (I think) go to the person who wrote the first reply. Please reply to the list, unless it is personal. Replies tend to generate more messages. Happly Holidays, ____ Nancy Lohbrunner [email protected]

The Whallon Home. Her father, James Whallon, made his first settlement in Sycamore Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1800. He was born in 1770 in N.J. from which State he emigrated into Ohio. He died at his home in Springfield Twp., in 1849. A farmer by Occupation, at one time served 6 years as J.P. and was an active member of the Army in the War of 1812. His wife, Ollie (Hagaman) Whallon, was born in 1773 and died in 1847, 2 years before her husband. (Ford History of Hamilton Co., Ohio.)
Hi Audrey, I will try to answer some of your questions. The name should have been typed like this, Nancy Ann (Whallon) Knox. Whallon is the maiden name of Nancy. I didn't have it that way on P. 6 and wasn't sure if it was a maiden name but I looked on P. 57 and it is, certainly. I will send P. 57 so there's no question. She must have been married before Samuel Vance Roll but I don't have a name in my pages except for Knox. P. 58, Frances (Baty) Van Zant, the Baty is a nickname and on my pages, I put the nickname above the given name. I believe the name is Van Zant. Notice child # 3, Reuben Van Zant Roll. The extensive holdings for Abraham Roll in Millcreek Twp, Springdale Twp and adjacent Butler Co. so I think this should be in Hamilton Co., Ohio but the notes don't say so except also in adjacent Butler Co. It must have been near the lines of Hamilton Co., and Butler Co., The Newspaper Articles on Edward Roll, I did have a copy but with my records, you would get them faster by writing the newspapers. They don't charge for these and you might try to find the two newspapers on the NET and they might send them through E-Mail. I've never tried it, so I don't know. John Roll & Martha Force, the nickname for Martha was Patty. Sorry, I don't have the parents of Frances (Van Zant) Roll. Maybe someone else has that. I hope this helps. Martha
(Male) ROLL mar 6 Mar 1823 Hamilton Co., OH to Polly JONES by R. MAHEW J.P. (Source: Hamilton Co., OH Probate Court Marriage Records 1820-1826, as found in "The Tracer", Hamilton Co., OH Chapter of OGS, Vol. 9, #1, p. 21, of Jan 1988) This appears to be the marriage of Wickham & Polly, although the husband's name was not given in this entry. Audrey
Is Henry VAN ZANDT & Marsey/Mercy (STOUT) VAN ZANDT JESSUP the parents of Frances VAN ZANDT/VAN ZANT/VAN SANT, wife of Wickham ROLL? This deed abstract appears to represent that fact. Wick ROLL received deed from Stephen & Marsey/Mercy (STOUT) VAN ZANDT JESSUP. Marsey, dau/o Benijah & Elizabeth STOUT, was former wife/o Henry VAN ZANDT. (Source: Abstract Deed of 5 Apr 1825 in Hamilton Co., OH: "The Tracer," Hamilton Co., OH Chapter of OGS, Vol. 10, #2, Jun 1989, p. 42) Audrey
Does everyone agree that the Wick ROLL who appears to be security, appraiser, & executor was probably Wickham ROLL, s/o Abraham & Prudance (VANCE) ROLL? And...Wick ROLL, the "idiot," was the s/o Edward ROLL, who also left Wick a legacy? To me it would seem plausible that the Wick ROLL, executor of Abraham ROLL, was probably also be one & same Wickham ROLL. Would that seem correct to the rest of you, since the other Wick ROLL was "idiot" son of Edward? But...do we know if Wick ROLL classified as an idiot was labeled as that his whole life, or was this something that developed as he got older? Anyone know of any history on the Wick ROLL, the "idiot?" Does anyone know of a genetic inherited disability here, since Wick is the second in the family to be classified as "idiot?" We need to clue into medical history as we do our family history also. Were there others not noted. Audrey
Hello, From the information you sent, Martha & Kathy, I have a couple of questions: Children of Abraham & Prudence (VANCE) ROLL p. 6 Samuel Vance ROLL married #2 Nancy Ann Whallon KNOX. Was her maiden name WHALLON, for I see where John married #1 Sarah WHALLON? Had Nancy been married before? p. 6 I assume that son, Wickham, married Frances"Baty" VAN ZANT, and that "Baty" was a nickname? Am I correct that it is a nickname & not a maiden name? I note that Kathy calls her Baty VAN SANT and Martha calls her Frances (Baty) VAN ZANT. Also, is it VAN SANT or is it VAN ZANT (another name variance like ROLL/RALL)? When you speak (Martha) of Abraham having extensive holdings in Millcreek Twp. & Springdale Twp., you did not indicate the county, but I assume you are speaking of Hamilton Co., OH. Thanks for any clarifications that one of you might be able to provide. Appreciate your kindness in sharing. Audrey
