    3. Donna - There are two John Eddy Roll. The one who was friends with Abraham Lincoln was the son of William Roll and Mary Eddy. William's parents were John Roll and Mary Earl and his parents were Isaac Roll and Sarah Cauldwell. Isaac's parents were John Roll and Elizabeth Sickles. Martha and one of my brothers, (Robert) were in contact in the 1980's and she and Lynn sent him copies of their research which he input to a word processor on a personal computer. Then a few years ago, I got a PC myself, and input it to a genealogy program called Family Origins. I now also have Family Treemaker software. I also have quite a bit of input done on the NJ rolls thanks to GEDCOM's, emails and other data sent to me by Martha Roll. If you would like, I can email you a GEDCOM of this data, just let me know. That would be the simplest way to get you the information, but if you can't use it in that format, I will try to do it another way, o.k.? I appreciate your efforts in trying to update all this family data. Regards, Betty (Roll) Holt

There is not enough information provided to be absolutely sure, but the Dr Silas Roll you mention appears to be son of: Matthias Roll and Mary Rutan, child of John Roll & Mary Van Winkle, child of John Roll & Elizabeth Sickles, child of Jan Mangalese & Volkie Janse Adriansen Israel Roll is also a child of Mattias Roll and Mary Rutan The Mathias Roll you have in your note is apparently the one indicated above, except that you show a child named Isaac which I do not show. All other children's names match. All this info is in the New Jersey Rolls, which should be ready for you in about a week. Hansel

    3. Welcome to the group. I always wanted to get to another Roll Reunion but never made it again. You probably have a lot of information that I don't have so if I write about a family that you have something different or more information on, feel free to let me know about it. I'm trying to get this Penn. Family into the computer now so everyone will have the information that I have. I never found a thing on Stephen or David. Not even the dates. There is a story about Stephen and I just came across it yesterday. Do you have it? The "Perilous Journey" by Kate M. Scott. Some researchers questioned if this was a story about Stephen Roll or more likely, his father John. I don't believe it was about John Roll. I found Wills and Land Deeds, a full notebook, I didn't know I had so many Wills. I haven't found what I was looking for yet and that is the stories. I haven't wrote letters for years and everyone must think I'm an old Scrooge because I haven't sent a Christmas Card either. The Genealogy just took so much time and I put it aside for awhile. Then, James, my youngest, talked me into buying this fancy computer. Do you remember him, Barney? He was about 2 weeks old when we were at the Reunion. Of course, I got into Genealogy again and found Bill's Webpage and Nancy had started this group and I seemed to jump back into it with both feet. Betty wrote me E-Mail and I can't remember the years we wrote to her brother, and I ran across a letter I got from her back in the 80's. It's amazing, I've known some of you people for almost 20 years. I know that you are Penn. Family but I suggest you get the information from Hansel on the N.J. Family. It does all tie in together. It may be a / between Altavista & digital instead of a . Try it. I was surprised at what they had. I have a small booklet on the Ky. Marriages but I got it in the 80's and I don't think it is complete. It was when Genealogical Societies were very small and a lot more work has been done in the past 15 years. I'm glad I could help. I love to yard sale so, if we saw a sign, we went. We had been for a couple of hours one day and turned down an alley to catch one. When we left, we got to the end of the alley and I asked which way to turn. He said, "Well, I don't know, I've been lost for 2 hours." Thank God for the good memories. John Eddy Roll & Abraham Lincoln did build a flatboat. the first time they put it into the water, it sank. That story might be in HISTORY OF EARLY SETTLERS OF SANGAMON COUNTY, ILLINOIS. by - John Carroll Power. 1876. I have it and I really need to get all these stories out so I can get to them easily. There's another one in Life Magazine - February 15, 1954 - LINCOLN'S LOST DOG. I'm not sure if the story of the Flatboat was in the book or if it was in John Eddy Roll's notes.
