Hi Kathy: I am trying to catch up on my genealogy and I was trying to place you in your Roll line, but am having a problem. Maybe I am not reading it correctly (your line of Nov 24, 1997) You have Matthias Roll who m Mary Rutan as a son of John Roll and Phebe Sutton and Edith Wick. Is that correct? According to the information Hansel sent out from Martha's work Matthias Roll was the son of John Roll and Rachel Van Winkle, that is also what I have. Can you help? Nancy
My files and books are mixed up right now but when I straighten them out I will send out my line again. Kathy [email protected]
I'm not sure any more . I need to get out all my paper work and organize it then check my books again , but I will let you know when I do. Somewhere down the line my books got messed up. Hello Martha: I finally installed my new genealogy software and data into the computer we bought last fall! Now I am trying to enter months of notes into it! First of all I got Mary Rall's birth date of 6 Dec 1794 from a fellow researcher in Ohio. She never said where she found it. She was quite active in her counties genealogical society and I can't think of anything that she sent me that was incorrect. I never checked the birth date myself. So I checked Mary's age on all the census records I have for her, ha! I don't think she knew how old she was herself or James her husband if he filled out the census data, according to the different census, she was born in 1792, 1793 and 1795! I can't seem to find my cemetery records for Clark Co, OH right now, however I do have a fairly good photo of her stone and the death date is Nov 21, 1788, 85 yrs 11 mos 15 ds. So you are correct and her birth year is 1791. I am glad you caught that, thanks. I'd like to know if I have 'your' Joseph Roll mixed up with a Joseph RALL. Here is what I have Joseph Rall son of Jacob Roll and Elizabeth Mills, b 18 Jan 1802 in NJ, d 29 Oct 1846 in Clark Co OH, wife Elizabeth d abt 1858 (youngest son Isaiah was under another guardianship in 1858). (Elizabeth has a 2nd marriage 5 Jul 1853 to John Fleming) Children of Joseph and Elizabeth: 1. Daniel W. Rall b 7 Jan 1828 Clark Co, OH, d 24 Mar 1863 Clark Co OH m Sarah Frances McJilton 7 Apr 1853 Clark Co OH. 2. Mary A. Rall m 27 Jun 1850 Franklin Koch (he was guardian of brother in law Isaiah in 1858) 3. Jacob Rall m Mary J. Cory 4. Joseph Rall Jr. no infomation 5. Jonathan Rall d Jul 1872 6. John L. d 1918 Clark Co OH m Eliza J. Day 4 Jul 1859 Clark Co OH 7. Anne Rall 8. Margaret d 1845 Clark Co OH 9. George W. b 11 Oct 1842 d Nov 1842 Clark Co OH 10. Isiah b abt 1845 d 1 Mar 1862 I can send you my documentation via internet or snail mail. Let me know. Nancy
I have Mary born 1791. You have 1794. I can't remember if that was in Isaac Clifford Roll's original copy or if we added that. If the year 1791 is correct, Mary would be the 5th child. If your's is correct, it would make her the 6th child. I have Philip (Philamon) born after her in 1793. I sent my P. 9 to the group. What does everyone else have? I don't have the location of Mary Roll's birth but I believe it to be New Providence, N.J. Reason being: Isaac Clifford Roll had a notation. Jacob Roll married a second time. The name, birth, marriage and death dates of the second wife is not known. They had children. I came across the Jacob Roll married Nancy Picket (Pecket) married 04/11/1810 at New Providence, N.J. So, it was after 1810 that Jacob Roll moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. I don't have the birth or death date for Nancy Picket (Pecket). I have Elizabeth Mills buried in the Baptist Cemetery, Scottsplains Twp. N.J. The man must have had a rough time. He had at least, 5 children under the age of 10 when Elizabeth died and didn't marry again for about 3 1/2 years. The youngest child was only a little over a year old. He took care of his home, family and a business, alone. The man should be commended. Martha
Hello Hansel: James Latourette and Mary RALL were my ancestors. Martha posted the correct marriage date for them. They died only a couple of weeks apart, James on 7 Nov 1877 and Mary on 21 Nov 1877. They are buried in the New Carlisle Cemetery in New Carlisle, Clark, OH. James was born 3 Oct 1794 in Freehold, Monmouth, NJ, Mary on 6 Dec 1794, I don't know where. Martha do you know? James spelled his name in various ways, sometimes doubled the first T, sometimes doubling the R. The most common spelling was/is Latourette. The LaTourette's were an old Staten Island family. Someone once told me if a person yelled Latourette on some streets on Staten Island, half the people on the street would answer to it. I will send you details of my line one of these days. I got a new computer last fall, new genealogy software around the same time and so far my genealogy is still on the other computer in the old software. I am working on changing all of that, but I have had visitors. In fact my mother-in-law is still here, she returns next week to Germany unless we can talk her into staying until it warms up a little over there. Nancy
Try to get a Death Certificate. Sometimes it will give the place of birth and the parents names of the deceased. It depends on who gave the information and how much they knew. An Obit. is good too, but that also depends on who gave the information and how much they knew. If the information Nancy sent you is correct, try for a Birth Certificate. If she died at the age of 87, she might have drawn S.S. If she did, they had to have proof of birth. My dad had a S.S. # all his life but when he retired, he didn't have a birth certificate but his mother had recorded it in the Family Bible. He always thought that he was born in 1914, but the Bible recorded it as 1913 so he retired a year later than he intended. The County made him a Birth Certificate from the Bible Records. A Family Bible Record is usually taken over any other. Also if she worked and paid S.S. you can get a form from the S.S. Office that list every employer she had in her lifetime that she paid S.S. through. This will cost. It's not much, just $4. or so on someone else. You can get your own list of employers at no charge. This will help you track someone's moves. You are just a beginning Genealogist and I feel for you but if you persue this, you will have been bitten by the bug and I doubt that any of us can ever lay this down. We will all be twiddling our pens in the hereafter. Martha
The computer went down again over the weekend and I lost all my mail. The man came out on SUNDAY and got it up again by 8:30 last night and came up with Outlook Express again and it had all my old messages in from before Christmas when it crashed. This one uses Therolls and the Internet Mail used Martha Roll, so don't get confused, it's still me. Martha
P. 9, Mary was the 5th child of Jacob Roll & Elizabeth Mills. She was married to James Lattourrette on 04/18/1815 Essex Co., N.J. Marriage Records. I saw these marriage records for myself and that is why I changed it. Otherwise I do not change someone else research. If you still have the old copy of our research, you will find on P. 8, Nancy Roll, 2nd child of John Roll & Mary Earl, married William Robinson. They were married 11/13/1803 Essex Co., N.J. Marriage Records. Cont. on P. 62. The pages I have are a nightmare. I have marked through things and replaced it with pen writing. I need to get the old computer working again and get myself some new pages. I noticed on the page that the date you have is from Miami Co., Ohio. I also have the marriages for that County and I will check again to see which Mary Roll married a William Robinson there on 10/16/1829. Someone must have seen a record of it or it wouldn't have been recorded. So, you think someday you'll be organized, huh. Well, I've been at this for over 20 years and the only thing I have organized are the notebooks. The birth, marriages, death, Census, Land deeds, Wills, Stories, and everything else I have is not organized. I do think I have all the pictures organized in the research. I've always been extra careful with the pictures. I still tell myself that someday I'll get everything organized. I'm glad to know that you are comparing the earlier research to what I have recorded now. That is why I sent these pages because I might have added something or changed something since you got the other. The pages I sent you, I sent to the group so if they got your information and the pages I sent to Roll-L, the things I sent to the group are the latest research. I appreciate you doing all the work of getting that research to everyone who wanted it. It will save me a lot of work but has caused you a lot more. Thanks again, Martha
Hello Heather: I did a SS death index search on Frances Rolls, couldn't match so I tried Frances MORGAN and found one who died 1997. This is what I found: born 6 Oct 1910; died 21 Jul 1997; residence (zip) 76103 (Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Last benefit; no location given. SSN 467-76-3630; issuing state Texas; issued 1963 Does any of the above information match what you have? If this is your grandmother, let me know and I will send the address for Tarrant County TX county clerk. I also tried Wayne Morgan, but there were too many and I would need more information. You might be able to guess which one, if he is shown. Go to http://www.ancestry.com and on the left side of the page click on (I think it is) SSDI and that will take you to the page for Social Security Death Index and you enter all information you know. Try several different ways. (I have never been able to find my father.) Good luck and keep us informed. Nancy
Oops - I found it. Never mind sending it again. Some day, I'll be organized, I keep telling myself\ Thanks again. Hansel
For Martha: Wow! Really do appreaciate your posting all these roll pages to the group. Have been pulling them and checking against what I have as quickly as I can, but am rapidly falling behind. Either I goofed, or missed something, but I have your page 537 which is continued from page 530 & which would pertain to William Reynolds & Virginia Ellen Roll. But I don't seem to have 330, and did not have that in my original book. Have you posted it and I missed it? If so, would appreciate you posting again. Also, on your page 9 which was posted, I noticed that the 4th child, Mary, was married to James Lattourrette on Apr 18, 1815 - but - in the old book I had, she was listed as married to William Robinson on Oct 16, 1829. Was she married to both, or was the original entry in error? Really do appreciate all your help! Hansel
Hello Heather: Welcome to the Roll surname list! You don't have very much to start with! Can you find out the name of the town your mother was born in? Does she have a copy of her birth certificate, the town would be on it? Do you know who filled out the death certificate information (usually a close relative) for Francis Marie Rolls? If it was someone you know, contact them and ask where Francis was born. If you do not know who filled out the information, send for the death certificate. I do not know anything about Texas, but the county clerk had birth and death records from 1903 on. You can call or write for details. Sometimes if you will call during the night, you can get an answering machine that gives details for obtaining a certificate and the cost and it is also cheaper to call at night. Dallas County Clerk 500 Main Street Dallas, TX 75202-3513 (214) 653-7131 This is as of 1991, the above might have changed. All genealogy research is done by counties in the States. Once you find out the name of the town, then it is easy to find the name of the county. If you have any living relatives, contact them NOW and get as much information as they are willing to give. Another thing you might look for would be the obituary for Francis. The Dallas Morning Star (I think that is the name) is on line, but I do not know if the obituaries are archived for the internet. Try to find the SS records for Francis. Go to http://www.ancestry.com and do a SS search, that is free there. Maybe some of the others on the list can give you more suggestions. Keep us informed with your findings, that way we can help you. Above all else, be patient. Good luck, Nancy
I finally got the tag lines entered for our list. If you get your own homepage, let me know and I will enter it for one of the tag lines. We are only allowed ten and have to have all ten. If you notice an error, let me know asap. Nancy

Hopefully someone on the list may have some information for you. I started my genealogy in March 1997, and now have over 1600 family members. Keep posting queries in different places. Use the search engines listed on my web pages under Genealogy Links. Post to this list again in three or four weeks. Good luck. Hansel, Thanks so much for sending the Roll family information to me. It is beautifully done, fascinating, and well-researched. Please let me know how much to remit (I think it is $10, but not sure), and I'll get it off to you this week. Many, many, thanks, Dave Kane

The ENYART-Van WOGGELUM information had the heading of DOCUMENTATION ON YELLIS ENYART by Roberta PIERSON, Maxine DALY, & Juanita ENYART. Roberta posted it to the ENYART list. Will get back to you a little later to respond to other notes. New grandson arrived yesterday, Friday the 13th, so have been busy babysitting with big sister (2 1/2 years old). My daughter went to hospital 2:00 A.M. Friday morning dropping little one off then. We watched 2 Disney movies at 2:00 A.M. before she went back to sleep. Long day yesterday. I am new to the list. Actually, I am new to looking into my family tree. I see many listings in here that go back all the way to the 1700's. I would love to get there, someday; but for now, I can go back as far as my maternal grandparents. This is just about all I know... Wayne Morgan, Sr.(b. ? - d. est. 1990) Francis Marie Rolls (b. ? - d. 1997). They had two children: Wayne, Jr. (b. before 1950) and Ruth Anna (b. 08 Dec, 1950) From this, I am guessing they were married sometime in mid 1940's. I am not sure where, but I think that my mother (Ruth) was born in Pennsylvania, if that helps any. They were divorced and Francis went back to her maiden name. Francis spent her last, at least, 15 yrs. in Dallas, TX. Any more knowledge to get me on the trail would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Heather Contreras
