She wrote a letter telling of some of her childhood memories. She was born in Michigan and she said her dad work on the first railroads in Illinois. Two of their children died at sea on the way over. His birthday was March 14 but she didn't remember the year. She said her mom died when she was two and grandma was born in 1886.
