    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: BonnieBergeron880 Surnames: Rohr Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rohr/337/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Am trying to find when Ignaz Rohr immigrated to US and into what port. I've searched every passenger lists I can find and cannot find him. It would have been sometime between 1850 and 1860 because he is listed in the Hamilton County Ohio 1860 census (as Xnat Rohr) living in Cheviot. Also, he was listed as a gardner. Would that have meant he worked for a wealthy family or was working for a city municipality as a gardner? He married Mary Niedhart in 1854 in Hamilton County. His parents are believed to be Ignaz Rohr and Colestina Schaedle. The Rohrs came from Hochmossingen Germany. There are still Rohrs there today and a street is called Ignaz Rohr Strabe. Author: isabellerohr Surnames: Rohr Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rohr/334.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: These are a few facts that I am not certain of, but I thought I should at least include in case there is some factual basis: 1. The parents of Otto Rohr are Claus Rohr and Marie Kruse Rohr. Names obtained from the Iowa Census of 1925. Cannot locate any further information about them. 2. I read on a rootsweb page that Otto was originally from "Greenberg" Germany. I'm wondering, first if this is true and second, would it then be Grünberg, near Stuttgart? My family always thought we were from the south of Germany anyway, not the north. 3. Rumor in my family is that our last name was originally "von Rohr" but was changed upon immigration to the United States. However, if my last name via German records is actually von Rohr, this opens up another can of worms entirely... I have not so far found any information to confirm or deny this. Thanks again to anyone that can help! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [ROHR] Otto Ferdinand Friedrich Rohr & Caroline Giese of Hohenfelde, Holstein
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: isabellerohr Surnames: Rohr Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.rohr/334/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello everyone- I am the great-great-granddaughter of Otto Ferdinand Friedrich Rohr and Caroline Sophia Giese Rohr. I have very little information about their roots in Germany. Passenger records show that they emigrated from Germany in 1892 and they are listed as being from Hohenfelde, Holstein. Their son, my grandfather, Hermann Ferdinand Rohr was with them as an infant, as was Hermann's slightly older brother, Wilhem (William) Rohr. I know that they settled in Iowa and lived most of their lives in/around Davenport. Otto died in Nov 1942 and I'm not certain of the date of Caroline's death. My grandfather Hermann made it to Minneapolis somehow and that is where he raised his family with his wife Catharina Crowley Rohr. Their son and my grandfather, James David Rohr, also raised his family in Minnesota and most still live there today. Can anyone help me locate the history of Otto Ferdinand Friedrich Rohr? Hometown, other family members, parents' names, etc would be very helpful. Thank you!! Isabelle Rose Rohr Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
