Here's what I've got from the census records. In 1860, Thomas and Elizabeth and their children are listed in the household of Barbara Johnson. Barbara Johnson's son, William Johnson (1831-1864), married Mary Ann Pernina Rogers, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (William & Pernina Rogers are my g-g-grandparents). I imagine that's why they're listed together. Note in this census that Thomas Roger's birthplace is listed as "Georgia." 1860 Greenville Co., SC, Fork Spring Twp., 4 Oct. p. 367 #1826-1727 Barbary Johnson 47F Housekeeper $200 SC Harriet E. 17F Seamstress James 14M Thomas Rogers 76M Farmer $100 Georgia Elizabeth 60F Housekeeper Frances 36F Seamstress Sarah 26F Spinster Catherine 24F Spinster Alexander 15M Farmer Pinckney 10M Ten years earlier, Thomas is listed on his own. You'll note daughter Pernine listed. 1850 Greenville Co., SC #1623 Thomas Rogers 51M Elizabeth 47F David 21M Sarah 20F Catherine 19F Elizabeth 18F Pernine 15F Martha 12F Pinckney 1M Earlier than that, I get confused on this line. There are two Thomas Rogers listed. One in Greenville with one son and eight (!) daughters 1840 Greenville Co., SC, p. 264 Thos. Rogers M 10-15 1 40-50 1 F 5-10 3 10-15 3 15-20 2 20-30 1 What's confusing to me is that in 1840, in nearby Laurens County, there is also a Thomas Rodgers (with a "D") who also has one son, one male close to him in age (a brother?), and eight daughters--all pretty close to the ages listed in the Greenville census. Laurens Co., SC, p. 59 Thos. Rodgers M <5 1 20-30 1 30-40 1 F <5 2 5-10 3 10-15 3 30-40 1 While it's possible that the two are unrelated coincidences, it seems more likely to me that they're the same family, and that Thomas Rogers moved to Greenville from Laurens. There are a LOT of Rogers in Laurens in 1830 (including the Thomas Rodgers who was listed in 1840, again with two males close to the same age--brothers?). In 1830, the Laurens Thomas Rodgers was listed close to a Sarah Rodgers, who was listed as 40-50 years old--old enough to have POSSIBLY been Thomas' mother, although she could just as easily have been an aunt or even a sister-in-law if related at all. This doesn't add much to what you mentioned, but at least there's someone else working on this family. How are you related? Best wishes, John Harrison
