And he did tell the story about him losing two fingers in battle- Pea Ridge I think he said, and they just bandaged him up and gave him a rifle and put him back out there. Robert alexander was his uncle...my fil was named Robert also for him, and middle name Arthur, after his father. It's weird, the lists don't list his father, who was named Arthur Jay. Bruce Arthur was his brother, as was your ancestor. II can't find all my geneaological stuff at this moment- heaven alone knows where I put them. But I'll keep looking. Since my fil was one of the eldest of Arthur's children (although I THINK that Arthur was one of the younger ones, right before Bruce, I believe) he knew lots of his relatives. He had a million stories about them, and often used to take my husband and the other kids down to Arkansas and to Texas to see their relatives. Arthur, btw, married a Margaret Chambers from Brooklyn NY whom he met when he was in the merchant marines. My father in law said that he (Arthur) and his brother Bruce were Rough Riders, and we even had a picture of the two of them in Rough Rider uniforms, but all the Rough Rider lists curiously omit that name, so I think there may have been some tall tales involved. I'll send you more info when I have it, okay?
