Dorothy, Please tell me where you got your information from on Gabriel Rogers from Palmyra, New York. I am VERY interested! I've been working on my husband's ROGERS line of descendants from a Jeremiah Rogers who was born in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island, in 1761 to parents I've yet to confirm. He is in the 1790 census there and then left the state to what I believe was the Lyons, NY, area. I say this because he had two sons, Thomas and George, confirmed in probate records in VT. Thomas had children that are listed in Vermont as born in Lyons, NY. I've always wondered why the family traveled all way to upstate New York, then ended up in Vermont. Jeremiah lost his first wife somewhere along the line between Rhode Island and Vermont, and is found in Revolutionary War records leaving a pension to his widow, Abigail McHerd, about ten years or so after his recorded death in 1837 in Brandon. There is a marriage on Nov 1, 1807 in Springfield, Windsor, Vermont, of a Jeremiah Rogers of Brandon to Sybil Latham - which I've also wondered about as the only Jeremiah in Brandon at the time was this same one from Newport, Rhode Island. Jeremiah shows up in land records in Brandon, VT, in 1806, and then in census there in 1810 & 1820. Thomas didn't show up there until 1820 census with a line of children. Then apparently his first wife died and he married Leah Churchill for which that information has been listed on RootsWeb, and I understand there is a Churchill Family Tree record with such info as well. I haven't been able to find where George was in 1820, but he had a son born in 1821 that was listed on various records as having been born in Chester, Brandon, or Barnard. Then he was living next door to Thomas in Brandon in 1830. George had 6 children born between 1812 and 1824, all in Vermont. Even though I have an internet-listed birthdate for George M. on 29 May 1790 in Brandon, in the 1860 census he is listed in Bethel, VT, living with wife and son's family at age 72 and born in Rhode Island. In 1850 he was in Brandon and listed as born in Vermont, which might be where this internet source got the presumption that he was born in Brandon as he was living there in 1830 census as well. So I've speculated (which is a dangerous thing to do in genealogy, I realize)that Jeremiah and family were traveling from Rhode Island to upstate New York sometime around 1800 census as I've never been able to find him anywhere, so he might not have had an established residence at the time. Somewhere in the stacks of Rogers info I've collected, I have copies of vitals for Rogers living in the Lyons/Palmyra area, but I've never been able to find Thomas' children's birth records, nor have I ever found signs that they were definitely living in New York from any records there. What I have on Thomas through his first wife, Mary Ester Davis, is four children, first three born in Lyons, NY, and the youngest was Lewis C. Rogers born in Brandon, VT, in 1819. The one prior to him was Fanny Estey born in Lyons in 1818. So Thomas and family moved to Brandon somewhere between June, 1818, and August, 1819. The oldest son, Jeremiah (labeled "2nd" in VT records) was born in Lyons in 1814. Between Jeremiah 2nd and Fanny is a missing female born between 1815 and 1817, also presumed to have been born in New York as well, though living in Brandon for the 1820 census.
