Hi Carol, These Rogers could drive one crazy!! The chase, however, is part of the fun. JOSEPH ROGERS, born in Palmyra, 1805, is the person I'm after. He married JULIA SHEFFIELD in Lyons in 1836. He was a miller in Michigan and possibly had a twin brother, THOMAS. I gave up trying to find his father and hired Marjory Allen Perez in Lyons, NY to do some research for me. She found GABRIEL, thinking he might be Joseph's father. I also have some history books of Wayne County where GABRIEL is mentioned. I've looked for a JEREMIAH, but have not found him. A couple of these books have no index, so it's tedious to try and find individual names. I'll keep him in mind. In 1792 there was a contingent of settlers from Rhode Island who settled in Palmyra. Perhaps JEREMIAH was among that group. It always amazes me how these people moved around. The latter settled in South Sodus in early life and moved to Sodus Point in 1852, where he held the office of collector through two administrations": He moved to Sodus in 1862, where he resided until his death., He was a leading man in the affairs of his town, where he filled many local offices, and was prominent in his business ppursuits. He married Cornelia A. Gardiner of Sag Harbor, L,I. in 1855, and they had four children: J. Franklin and Harry G. who settled in Aurora, Ill, in 1892, engaged in mercantile pursuits, Kat S. MAJOR WILLIAM ROGERS so favorably known to the traveling public in the early years of canal navigation, as a packet master, the father-in-law of Pomeroy Tucker, editor of the Wayne Sentinel, is a surviving son. He is now the occupant of a fine farm near Pultneyville: as stirring and energetic as when he used to sing out: ___ "Hurra, is the lock ready?" ___ or beat up the quarters of the sleepy drivers in dark and rainy nights, a daughter of his was the wife of Noah Porter. Hi Dorothy, I have a will from "Collections of Historical Society-Abstracts of Wills Vol 1" that has will of Obadiah Rogers of Southampton, Suffolk Co NY in which he mentions grandson Jeremiah and also grandson Gabriel, "son of my deceased son James" along with his sisters Millisunt and Ruth. Dated 1782, proved 1784. Any help? Gabriel not a common name in Rogers line I believe.
