Hi Daniel, How very nice of you to introduce yourself. I am telling you; I fell in love with Highlands; no wonder my grandfather loved it so. Did you happen to read the post I put out about being there this past August and being able to put a Daughters of 1812 marker on our David's cabin? David and Martha "Patsy" Young Rogers built that old cabin in 1820; they built the barn 1st and lived there until the cabin was finished. It was such an honor to be able to lead the ceremony marking his cabin. He is the only ancestor I have proven in the War of 1812 and probably always will be. If I can be of any help in working out how you track back on your East Coast Rogers let me know, I will try. You can't imagine how many people have written me and said how nice it is that I descend from Thomas Rogers who came to the Colonies on The Mayflower and they don't know why I haven't joined the society. Well, that Thomas Rogers wasn't my ancestor and if we connect with him it's a long way back in the old country. I get untold numbers from people asking about our connection with East Coast Rogers and I have to tell them, sorry, that's not us. Hope we can keep in touch and if I learn of anything I will pass it on. Has Ancestry.com been of any help at all? What all do you have in Ohio data so far? I suppose you have gone through the Land and Probate Records that are available. I see that Jefferson County was formed in 1797, so barring fires and all of those dreadful things. I see the Probate Judge's office has the marriage, probate and naturalization records. Have you had any luck searching those instruments? If you have been fortunate enough to find naturalization records then you may be able to find where they came in to the Colonies from and what ship they came on, etc. Since you have an idea your David's parents came in from New Jersey, the naturalization records might be extant from there. Dan Rogers here. I live in Maggie Valley NC, about an hour from Highlands. If I can be of help to you with any projects in this area please let me know. I have traced my roots back to a David Rogers also, but mine settled in Jefferson County Ohio in 1802 and we have been there for 7 generations now. I am still trying to find David's parents. I believe he was from New Jersey. Anyhow, saw your post about Highlands and wanted to let you know you have a friend in the area.
