    1. [ROGERS] Rogers in Cumberland County, VA
    2. I'm researching a Rogers line in Cumberland County, VA.  I have not posted in some time so I will try again! Prudence Rogers was likely born about 1735-1740.  She was the mother of six children who were documented by Parish Records in Cumberland County -- in the 1760s, three were bound to a Job Thomas and in the 1770s, three more were bound to Jesse Thomas.  I know little of Prudence other than the names of her children (Sarah, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth, Nathaniel, Elizabeth and Ansel).  I know she had grandsons named Absolom, David and Stephen. I believe Prudence was Native American and there is some relationship to a Jenkins family as in the 1790s, she relocated with her son Ansel to Campbell County, VA and lived along side a Jenkins family also from Cumberland County. Anyone have any idea about this family ? -----Original Message----- From: Carolyn Bryant <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 11 Jun 2007 10:14 am Subject: Re: [ROGERS] John & Joseph Rogers Allen P. Nancy Carolyn [email protected] wrote: My cousins and I are attempting to separate the many different Rogers amilies of colonial Virginia during the time period of the first half of the 700's. e descend from John Rogers (born abt 1720/25 and died 1790 in Fairfield, SC- ccording to his son Joseph's Rev. War pension application) John was in melia between 1748 and 1750. We do not believe he stayed in Amelia County, VA ery long. Complicating this search is the fact that the name John Rogers was a very ommon one during the 1700's especially in Virginia. According to John's 1790 ill in Fairfield, his children were: William, Richard, Thomas, James, Joseph, enry, Frances and Jane. In addition we are searching for anyone with Rogers or Rodgers connections in incoln Co., TN, Bedford Co., Rutherford Co., TN, or Madison Co., AL. We elieve some of our Rogers may have lived in some or all of these places. Our ancestor, Joseph Rogers, originated in Tennessee in Rutherford Co., and edford Co. (although he had also lived in Amelia Co., VA, Fairfield, SC, ayette Co., KY, and Oglethorpe Co., GA. However, there are at least one or two ther Joseph Rogers floating around during this time period and places--notably oseph Rogers who was born in 1788 in SC. (He married Nancy Mullings). According to early records, In Rutherford County, there were five Rogers orking on the Barfield Road in 1808: James, Joseph, John, Isaac, and David. In 1813, a person was sent from Rutherford Co., TN to Madison Co., ississippi Territory (today Madison Co., AL) to obtain a deposition from John ogers nd Isaac Rogers at the house of John Rogers. I believe this John and Isaac ogers probably were 2 of the 5 working on the Barfield Road in RC five years arlier. In the 1820 Lincoln Co., TN census some of the Rogers enumerated were bsolom, Isaac, John H., Jones, Joseph, Spencer, and William Rogers. It appears hat t least some of these men were involved in the above road-building crew and n the court deposition in Madison Co., AL (just across the state line from incoln Co., TN). How are these Rogers connected? Some believe that they could be children or grandchildren of the Joseph ogers who was born in 1750 in Amelia Co., Va and in his later years moved to utherford and Bedford Counties. Others believe that all these Rogers are related to the Joseph Rogers who was orn in 1788. One person states that Isaac Rogers may be the father of bsolam and Joseph Rogers (born 1788). Or could the Joseph Rogers (born 1750) be the father of many of these en--especially of Absalom, John, and Joseph (born 1788)? Any direction or help by Rogers researchers reading this in locating or eparating the many Rogers names would be much appreciated. We would be very appy o share information.
