    1. [ROGERS] William rogers
    2. Hello Listers... Recently I was the recipient of a very kind person doing research for me in the Amelia(Virginia) area. I would like to tell all of you that I now live in Lafayette(Louisiana) and have access to the University and Public Libraries that have lots of "Cajun" records. I would like to return the wonderful favor and if any of you have roots to this area please send me all the information you have and I will gladly add it to my list when I go to the library. It might take me some time but I will look it up for you. I am looking the any information on the following people- Joseph Osborne took an oath of allegiance on the same date as WILLIAM ROGERS in 1777 and contributed to the Haitian aid request in 1791. I am trying to figure out is this William Rogers could be related to my John Rogers who died in 1790. I am going to repeat the information I know for anyone who might be able to share information on Joseph Osborne or William Rogers. I know the families were somehow connected. My cousins and I are attempting to separate the many different Rogers families of colonial Virginia during the time period of the first half of the 1700's. We descend from John Rogers (born abt 1720/25 and died 1790 in Fairfield, SC- according to his son Joseph's Rev. War pension application) John was in Amelia between 1748 and 1750. We do not believe he stayed in Amelia County, VA very long. Complicating this search is the fact that the name John Rogers was a very common one during the 1700's especially in Virginia. According to John's 1790 will in Fairfield, his children were: William, Richard, Thomas, James, Joseph, Henry, Frances and Jane. In addition we are searching for anyone with Rogers or Rodgers connections in Lincoln Co., TN, Bedford Co., Rutherford Co., TN, or Madison Co., AL. We believe some of our Rogers may have lived in some or all of these places. Our ancestor, Joseph Rogers, originated in Tennessee in Rutherford Co., and Bedford Co. (although he had also lived in Amelia Co., VA, Fairfield, SC, Fayette Co., KY, and Oglethorpe Co., GA. However, there are at least one or two other Joseph Rogers floating around during this time period and places--notably a Joseph Rogers who was born in 1788 in SC. (He married Nancy Mullings). According to early records, In Rutherford County, there were five Rogers working on the Barfield Road in 1808: James, Joseph, John, Isaac, and David. In 1813, a person was sent from Rutherford Co., TN to Madison Co., Mississippi Territory (today Madison Co., AL) to obtain a deposition from John Rogers and Isaac Rogers at the house of John Rogers. I believe this John and Isaac Rogers probably were 2 of the 5 working on the Barfield Road in RC five years earlier. In the 1820 Lincoln Co., TN census some of the Rogers enumerated were Absolom, Isaac, John H., Jones, Joseph, Spencer, and William Rogers. It appears that at least some of these men were involved in the above road-building crew and in the court deposition in Madison Co., AL (just across the state line from Lincoln Co., TN). How are these Rogers connected? Some believe that they could be children or grandchildren of the Joseph Rogers who was born in 1750 in Amelia Co., Va and in his later years moved to Rutherford and Bedford Counties. Others believe that all these Rogers are related to the Joseph Rogers who was born in 1788. One person states that Isaac Rogers may be the father of Absolam and Joseph Rogers (born 1788). Or could the Joseph Rogers (born 1750) be the father of many of these men--especially of Absalom, John, and Joseph (born 1788)? Any direction or help by Rogers researchers reading this in locating or separating the many Rogers names would be much appreciated. We would be very happy to share information. 3. Hi Joyce, I believe that Thomas Rogers is as hard to trace as John Rogers. My late husband's gggfather was Thomas, b. 1770 in Bertie Co, NC, m. Jane Hampton in Bertie Co, moved to SC, Bedford Co, TN, then to AL. His son Richard Hampton was b. 1806 in SC, his daughter Nancy m. John McGuire, supposedly in Bedford Co, TN, and the family was in Fayette or Tuscaloosa Co, AL by 1819 when part of the Mississippi Territory became the State of Alabama. Most of the information I have about Thomas Rogers, which I found on internet, is that he was the s/o Thomas Rogers. Other known children of Thomas and Jane Rogers were Thomas, William, and Minnie. I have information about the families of Richard Hampton, Nancy McGuire, and John Wesley Rogers, s/o Richard Hampton. My husband, Ralph Rogers Wheeler, was s/o Margaret Rogers, d/o of John Wesley. I'll gladly share this information with anyone desiring it.
