Rogers was a member of a hunting party of fifteen who left San Pedro Saturday morning on the fishing barge Southern California on an asserted goat-hunting expedition. While he was making his way around a mountain side using his rifle for a walking stick, it accidentally discharged. Rogers, believed to have been killed instantly, fell into a deep ravine and members of the party worked several hours in reaching the body and bringing it to the barge. At the time of the accident the party was on the Isthmus end of the island. Capt. Morivich directed the removal of the body.
