Hello Eileen, I saw your post on Rogers mailing list and was wandering if you had any information on John ROGERS born 1838 in MS. My ROGERS line could have connects to WARDELL or WADDELL. My GG Grandfather was John M. ROGERS b. abt 1838. According to family story (not proven yet) John & his father had a bitter argument about the civil war and John left and never contacted his family again. (proven) John joined the union side in New Mexico and became a Sgt Major. Abt 1862 he married Elizabeth Caroline GOLLAGHER (spelling varies). They lived in Quincy, Adams Co IL in 1870 census. They divorced (proven) in Quincy in 1874 on the grounds of adultery. John had an affair with Elizabeth's sister Clara Ann GOLAGHER BUCHHEIT (BUCKHEIT) According to Civil War pension papers filed by Elizabeth John died in Natchez MS. abt 1920. We never found prove of his death. Thank you for your time. There was a Jesse Rogers who signed on Joel's marriage bond and I've been wondering if these two were brothers, but have not had any luck finding out who either's parents were or where they were born in NC.
